Nintendo Gaming / So this is why Hudson won't do another Mario Party
« on: April 09, 2010, 02:30:04 PM »
Oops, Party Prank! seems to be what Hudson has been working on instead of a new Mario Party. They made their own party game and it is reportedly very close to MP but without the Mario license.

Would anyone really be interested in a game like this without Mario, though? I know I'm not as excited about it without Mario and Co at the helm. Curious what y'all think.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia Party Day 6: Wario's Battle Canyon
« on: March 20, 2010, 06:42:13 AM »
  •     Mafia Party Day 6: Wario's Battle Canyon

The players  immediately began working on starting the strange machine that is the  centerpiece of the Engine Room. As the players cooperated together people began  to notice that Wario was constantly cutting out on the work load for 'bathroom  breaks' and 'lunch time'. The other players began to get frustrated at Wario's  laziness as they were eager to finish the machine so that they could complete  the board. Many were getting worried that they would be next on Wendy's radar  and with her being the final Koopa Kid people knew the chances of the next  elimination being a wrong guess were great.
But when  Wario was on his 5th lunch break that hour Rosalina lost her composure,  "Enough, Wario!" she shouted as her Lumas swarmed around he in an  agitated pattern, "Your breaks and constant shrugging off of  responsibility are disrupting our ability to progress and we have had enough of  it. It stops here!"
Wario  barely looked at her and he shrugged his shoulders and began biting into his  newest sandwich he had created. Rosalina appeared like the wind had been  knocked out of her as she was not used to having her orders ignored. But Mario  stepped up to Wario. "She's-a right, Wario", Mario pointed out,  "This unconcerned behavior and all of the disappearances only makes you  look more suspicious to the rest of us. You need to shape up."
Wario  merely grunted and turned away from Mario but Rosalina had begun to unwind and  she slapped Wario's hands, causing him to drop the sandwich, scattering it's  contents all over the floor. "First-a your useless badgering and now you  ruin-a my sandwich!" Wario raged, "Now-a your going to pay!"
Mario and  Luigi both leapt upon Wario as he swung back his arm for an immense punch but  he flung them off like rag dolls. He leapt towards the princess but Rosalina  stood her ground. When Wario was just about to reach her a swarm of Lumas swept  out from behind Rosalina and swept Wario up into the air. Their sheer number  restricted Wario's movement and he began to flail in the air, tearing at them  and trying to throw them off. A great white light radiated from Rosalina as she  glared up the helpless Wario. "I believe I speak for all of us when I say  this is the end. We are done dealing with you and we will now see who you truly  are." At this the signaled the Lumas and several transformed into a  sling star that they used to fling Wario up  and into the great machine that the players had been working to restore. The  machine rumbled to life as the cries of Wario were heard from within. The  players all just stared speeches as they followed the cries as the traveled  through the mighty machine. They realized a major problem, the cries were  still that of Wario. The force of the machine should have been enough to  dispel the magical disguise that the Koopaling would have been using. Abruptly  the machine sputtered, failed, and shut down. No cries emitted from the  machine, all was silent. Luigi looked up to see Wario's purple cap flutter down  to the ground amidst them.
While they were  still standing there the Lumas began to chatter in a frenzy as a bullet bill  tore through them and propelled itself towards Luigi. Too shocked to react  Luigi just stood petrified before his doom. Acting quickly the Lumas swarmed  around the Bullet Bill and formed a new sling star that spun about and launched  the Bullet Bill off away from Luigi, protecting him.
As everyone  was recovering from the shock of the abrupt attack, Toadsworth arrived on the  scene. "Now that was quite a spectacle to see! I had no idea Lumas were  capable of such immense acts. What bravery they showed! Now I fear, as we have  just faced and barely escaped another attack, we must relocate to yet another  board. Please follow me to our next destination: erm..."He stumbled over at  the next word, "Wario's Battle Canyon".
As they  were leaving Daisy came over to a now distraught Rosalina. "It's OK,"  Daisy consoled, "He was a big disgusting jerk anyway, and I'm convinced he stole two of my  stars today too."
Luigi, who  was next to Daisy mumbled, "But you-a don't really know that Wario took  your-"
"Quiet!" Shushed Daisy, "I'm  just trying to comfort Rosalina, I don't have a clue who took them. It better  not be you, buddy, or you'll be in the market for more than a new Tennis  doubles partner. Got it?"
Luigi just  gulped and said nothing as they moved off the board.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia Party Day 5: Luigi's Engine Room

  •     Mafia Party Day 5: Luigi's Engine Room

The  unmasking of imposter Peach as a Koopaling seemed to have a unifying affect on  the rest of the players. Amidst the flying furniture and haunting candlelight  throughout the board, players moved about in groups for safety. They had a  sharpened attention to details and many traps were uncovered before any harm  could be caused.
But  suddenly the players discovered a strange machine far beyond anything else they  had discovered. It had a row of nozzles in various colors of the rainbow.
Wario  instantly ran up to them knowing what they were. "It's a food dispenser!  These things can be-a made to produce all sorts-a delicious foods in all-a  kinds of flavors." And before anyone could voice a thought on the matter  he stuck his head under one of the faucets and turned it one. A strange reddish  liquid oozed out of the faucet and into Wario's gaping mouth. After a moment of  process the taste he cried out "It's-a watermelon pudding!" At this  the players all broke out various different containers to load up on all of the  different flavors as it was quickly found that the different colored faucets  produced different flavors.
Suddenly a  scuffle broke out down near the chocolate dispenser. Mario was wrestling down  the strange character known as Nickmitch who had been a participant of the  game. No one quite knew who he was, but he had received a special invite to the  Contest so people didn't really question him. Wario shoved between them using  his immense weight. "Hey-'a you two! Why are you disturbing my meal?"  He bellowed as the two bounced off of his gelatinous belly.
As the two  were pinned down by the others Mario shouted out, "I-a saw him slipping-a  something into the Princess Rosalina's pudding bowl behind her back!"             Nickmitch tried to excuse it away as  extra special seasoning he had wanted her to try but Birdo pulled out a bag  from within Nickmitch's jacket. "And what are these supposed to be? Don't  tell me they are your spices, you never add spices like these to pudding!"
Luigi took  the bag from Birdo and smelled it, "Those aren't-a spices, Birdo. These  are poison mushrooms!"
At this  Wario seemed to snap, "You-a were putting poison mushrooms in-a this delicious  pudding? Into MY food? You'll-a pay for this!" And before anyone could  stop him Wario plunged Nickmitch under a faucet of pudding, forcing him to eat  it. He forced him until his belly started to bulge, and then he forced him some  more. Suddenly his appearance began to shimmer and he turned into his true  form, Lemmy Koopa the Poison Mushroom Dealer! At this Wario only opened  the faucet even more until Lemmy was nearly the size Wario himself. Suddenly  there was an immense explosion and everyone was covered in gooey pudding, but  Lemmy was nowhere to be seen.
"So  that's what happens when you overstuff a Koopa," pondered Tatanga.

After  cleaning up many of the players still found they had room for more pudding.  Many of them began to doze off after eating their fill. But no one noticed  until much later that Tatanga was not sleeping. Attempts to wake him  failed as they realized that the last bowl of pudding he had eaten had a  suspicious odor to it and his one star was also found to be missing. It seemed  that during the commotion the last of the Koopalings, Wendy Koopa, had succeeded  in offing one of the players and seizing his star.

During the  shocking revelation that Tatanga had passed on Toadsworth burst onto the scene  with a host of MKPD troopers. "Alright everyone, please remain calm! We  seem to have had another accident, but take heart! You have eliminated yet  another of the Koopa Kids! That means that we have only one left to find before  we have removed the problem for good." He then clapped twice loudly,  "Now come along, we are relocating boards again to throw off the last  Koopaling. This place may yet be further booby trapped so I feel it is prudent  to carry on our game at Luigi's Engine Room."

As the  players were swept off Luigi discovered that he was missing a star! Someone had  hijacked it! Off in the distance Luigi thought he heard the incessant cackling  of a Boo and Luigi cursed the lack of his trusty Poltergeist 3000. The Boo  would one day pay for this as a mural on his wall if he had a say in the  matter.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia Party Day 4: Boo's Haunted Bash
« on: March 18, 2010, 04:36:59 AM »
  •     Mafia Party Day 4: Boo's Haunted Bash

The rushing  water the players were plunged into did nothing to ease their sense of anxiety.  There had been a glaring matter not resolved the day before and it began to  gnaw and them across this board.
Finally  Tatanga broke the tension, "Enough!" He shouted, "I need  answers. Peach, why did you say nothing yesterday? Tumble brought out your private stock of rum and you said  nothing. Daisy and Rosalina protested more fiercely than you at this. Then when  Toadette was accused you did not spring to her defense. True, she turned out to  be a Koopaling, but you had no knowledge of this. And you stood by and let  nothing happen to protect her. What if it had been the real Toadette? I call  shenanigans! I propose we unmask her for who she really is!" Peach tried  to shrug it off as preposterous but others soon joined the inquisition of the princess.
"Yeah!"  Cried Luigi, "you have-a been distant lately, and when-a Yoshi passed away  you shed-a not a single tear!" He accused. Still others badgered her about  her votes against other players and one person even mentioned suspecting she  had taken some of his coins. Tatanga began to activate the weapon systems on  his ship when a pair of magical bolts shot out and struck the ship full force.  Tatanga was thrown out and to the ground next to Wario.
"Woah,"  Wario gasped, "if it weren't-a for the energy shield on-a your ship protecting  you, you'd have-a been toast!"
"Look!"  shouted Birdo, pointing after a fleeing Peach, "She's getting away!"
The players  gave chase. Rosalina, thinking fast, sent out some of her Lumas ahead and they  spun in circles swiftly, creating a current that sucked down the fleeing  princess. But the uproar had disturbed the slumber of a group of Rip Van Fish  who honed in on the figure swirling about above them. They attacked the  princess and began to drag her farther into the depths. As they gnawed on her  the players witnessed a transformation which revealed that Peach was  really Iggy Koopa the coin Thief! The players halted their pursuit and  just watched as Iggy was pulled farther and farther into the deep to his doom.
Before  anyone could say a congratulatory word on catching another Koopaling Toadsworth  swam out. "Wonderful, wonderful! You have sacked yet another Koopa! But I  fear that this may mean more are close at hand. We will once more be relocating  to another board. Prepare to travel to Boo's Haunted Bash!
And the  players were caught up in a current and sucked down a warp pipe to their new  destination.

By Edgar (Baltimore)  - See all my reviews
Once upon a mid-day sunny, while I savored Nuts 'N Honey,
With my Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 gal, 128 fl. oz., I swore
As I went on with my lapping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at the icebox door.
'Bad condensor, that,' I muttered, 'vibrating the icebox door -
Only this, and nothing more.'

Not to sound like a complainer, but, in an inept half-gainer,
I provoked my bowl to tip and spill its contents on the floor.
Stupefied, I came to muddle over that increasing puddle,
Burgeoning deluge of that which I at present do adore -
Snowy Tuscan wholesomeness exclusively produced offshore -
Purg'ed here for evermore.

And the pool so white and silky, filled me with a sense of milky
Ardor of the type fantastic of a loss not known before,
So that now, to still the throbbing of my heart, while gently sobbing,
I retreated, heading straightway for the tempting icebox door -
Heedless of that pitter-patter tapping at the icebox door -
I resolved to have some more.

Presently my soul grew stronger; hesitating then no longer,
'This,' said I, 'requires an extra dram of milk, my favorite pour.'
To the icebox I aspired, motivated to admire
How its avocado pigment complemented my decor.
Then I grasped its woodgrain handle - here I opened wide the door; -
Darkness there, and nothing more.

Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there wondering, fearing,
Doubting, dreaming dreams of Tuscans I had known before
But the light inside was broken, and the darkness gave no token,
And the only words there spoken were my whispered words, 'No more!'
Coke and beer, some ketchup I set eyes on, and an apple core -
Merely this and nothing more.

Back toward the table turning, all my soul within me burning,
Soon again I heard a tapping somewhat louder than before.
'Surely,' said I, 'surely that is something at my window lattice;
Let me see then, what thereat is, and this mystery explore -
Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore; -
'Tis the wind and nothing more!'

From the window came a stirring, then, with an incessant purring,
Inside stepped a kitten; mannerlessly did she me ignore.
Not the least obeisance made she; not a minute stopped or stayed she;
But, with mien of lord or lady, withdrew to my dining floor -
Pounced upon the pool of Tuscan spreading o'er my dining floor -
Licked, and lapped, and supped some more.

Then this tiny cat beguiling my sad fancy into smiling,
By the grand enthusiasm of the countenance she wore,
Toward the mess she showed no pity, 'til I said, 'Well, hello, kitty!'
Sought she me with pretty eyes that seemed to open some rapport.
So I pleaded, 'Tell me, tell me what it is that you implore!'
Quoth the kitten, 'Get some more.'

He always brought home milk on Friday.

After a long hard week full of days he would burst through the door, his fatigue hidden behind a smile. There was an icy jug of Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz in his right hand. With his left hand he would grip my waist - I was always cooking dinner - and press the cold frostiness of the jug against my arm as he kissed my cheek. I would jump, mostly to gratify him after a time, and smile lovingly at him. He was a good man, a wonderful husband who always brought the milk on Friday, Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz.

Then there was that Friday, the terrible Friday that would ruin every Friday for the rest of my life. The door opened, but there was no bouyant greeting - no cold jug against the back of my arm. There was no Tuscan Whole Milk in his right hand, nor his left. There came no kiss. I watched as he sat down in a kitchen chair to remove his shoes. He wore no fatigue, but also no smile. I didn't speak, but turned back to the beans I had been stirring. I stirred until most of their little shrivelled skins floated to the surface of the cloudy water. Something was wrong, but it was vague wrongness that no amount of hard thought could  give shape to.

Over dinner that night I casually inserted,"What happened to the milk?"
"Oh,"he smiled sheepishly, glancing aside,"I guess I forgot today."

That was when I knew. He was tired of this life with me, tired of bringing home the Tuscan Whole Milk, 1 Gallon, 128 fl oz. He was probably shoveling funds into a secret bank account, looking at apartments in town, casting furtive glances at cashiers and secretaries and waitresses. That's when I knew it was over. Some time later he moved in with a cashier from the Food Mart down the street. And me? Well, I've gone soy.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia Party Day 3: Deep Bloober Sea
« on: March 17, 2010, 06:03:48 AM »
  • Mafia Party Day 3: Deep Bloober Sea

The players had little time to ponder the previous days events as they were quickly thrust into the land of high seas shenanigans. People seemed to put the nasty eventsof the previous day behind them as they pressed onward in their goal of catching the Koopa Kids and Superstardom.
Part way through the day, Tumble produced a number of casks with the Mushroom Kingdom Royal Brewery seal on them. Some like Rosalina and Daisy put up a protest at the prospect of the rum reserved for the royal table was about to be distributed to every player on the board. But as Tumble quickly broke the seal and the drink began to be shared even they lost concern for the matter as the game was momentarily halted for a moment of revelry. Things took a turn for the worse when the party players found the last cask to be shattered and it's precious cargo spilled upon the board a spat arose as to who was to blame.
At first everyone seemed to think they had witnessed someone different commit the wretched deed and decried the act as befitting a Koopaling but soon the finger pointing narrowed to Toadette and Mario in his Tanookie Suit. Some turned to Daisy as she tended to have a level head in tense matters and was know for evenhanded justice. But Daisy was passed out on the floor. This was strange considering she had only consumed a single glass. Further examination by Toadlock Homes later on revealed that a Poison Mushroom Concoction similar to the ones known to be used by Lemmy Koopa had been slipped into her drink rendering her unconscious the rest of the day. Without a voice of reason the growing angry mob mentality was quickly swayed by the popularity and charm of Mario. "I was-a in my Tanookie Suit!" He slurred. "How could-a I be so un-coordinated as-a to destroy a precious cask of drink? Here-a I will buy everyone a new round from the local pirate Shyguys with all of-a my shiny coins!"
The angry players quickly fell in line with this logic and swarmed poor Toadette instead. They quickly sealed her away in an empty barrel and loaded it into a nearby cannon amidst the panicked pleas. As the fuse on the cannon was lit the top of the barrel popped off with a bang to reveal the head of Larry Koopa the trickster! But he was stuck! His return to normal form made him too big to easily escape the barrel. As he was attempting to escape Mario snapped out of his stupor and leap up to push him back in the cannon. Suddenly one of Wendy Koopa's magic rings flew out of nowhere towards Mario. But thanks to the protective powers imbued in the Tanookie Suit, the shot merely glanced off of Mario.By then it was too late! The fuse ran out and Larry was launched out into deep sea where the giant turtle eating Bloobers and Cheep-Cheeps swam.

Amidst the cheers of the players at having stopped a Koopa Kid, Toadsworth, Toadlock and a group of MKPD officers arrived and apprehended Tumble.
"Tumble, you are under arrest!," accused Toadlock. "You are accused of star embezzlement and conduct un-befitting of a Contest Host along with theft and distribution of Royal property. You are relieved of your duties as Host and are to surrender to the officers on hand." Tumble hung his head in shame and was escorted off the board by the MKPD.
"I'm so sorry for the disturbance," pleaded Toadsworth, "In light of these matters we will yet again relocate to another board and since we are in need of a host, I will stand in until a suitable replacement is procured. Now, without further ado, on to the Deep Sea!" At that all of the players were sucked up into a new warp pipe as the sun began to set on the second day of the game.

Meanwhile,an otherworldly cackle drifted out from a nearby wreckage on the shore. Boo drifted out towards the warp pipe that had just transported the players away."At last. I can finally bring the chaos I so love to this game. It took some time to get by the new security, but nothing can stop me in the end!"Boo cackled again as it slipped into the pipe to follow the players on their journey.

    >Boo is now back in play! I recalled him temporarily because of the confusion. Here is how he works: Each player may send one bid PM in an attempt to bribe Boo to do their bidding. This is a separate PM from any other action or PM you make to me to ease confusion. You may only select one target. In your PM you must include the following: A statement that this is your Boo Bid, a total you wish to bid on, a name for your target."Bidding on Boo to target Stratos for 21 coins" is a good example PM*.You have multiple bids in a day. You can PM a changed target or price if you desire but the new Boo Bid will over ride the old one. You have up until I close the thread to make a bid if you choose.

    >If you win then I will take the coins before anynight actions are calculated so they cannot be stolen. If you fail to specify a target or your target is removed from the game I will pick a target at random to perform a theft on. Once a target is selected you have a chance of stealing1 to 3 of their stars. If they have no stars the theft fails and you receive your coins back. Your coins can be stolen that night if this happens. Also know that if you win stars, they are not 'delivered' to you until the next day just like regular stars so they are safe that night as well from theft.

    >If you do not win nothing happens and you get to keep your coins. You will be able to tell if you won or lost during your morning Roll PM when I disclose your current star and coin totals.

    >If there is a tie a winner will be selected at random to get his services.

*Please note that I was using my name as a placeholder.Actual targeting of me will not give you a 'surprise result'. It will just not be counted (and I know some of you were thinking of doing that ;) ). Also, I am not going to discard your bid PM if it is not exactly like the example. That was to show you the information I need for it.

    >Also note that Boo is an NPC.

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia Party Day 2: Pirate Land

Mafia Party Day 2: Pirate Land

The game started as usual. Things seemed to be going pleasantly well and the players took their turns and moved across the rainbow path towards the goal.  Suddenly things took a turn for the worse.Yoshi, eager to help his friends weed out the Koopa Kid impostors, made claim that he was none other than Wendy Koopa the Godfather of the Koopa Gang.Instead of having the desired effect, it causes all of the other players to grow weary of him. More and more people began to suspect him of being an impostor. Yoshi tried to explain, but everyone's mind seemed to be made up.They put it to a vote and things were looking grim for the green dinosaur. Asif to add insult to injury, a Ballot Box was tossed at Yoshi, altering his vote to count towards himself! The poor dinosaur, stunned by the turn of events -and the blow to his noggin by the box- Yoshi staggered off of the edge of the rainbow board and fell to his doom. The last thing that crossed his mind was a surreal recollection of a similar incident where Mario jumped off of his back once to reach a hidden area and also letting Yoshi plunge to his doom."How had I escaped that conundrum?" Yoshi lackadaisically mused to himself, "perhaps that will happen again when-" SPLAT!
The other players crept to the edge of the board. Wario pulled out a jewel encrusted golden telescope and peered down at the fallen form. But no magical guise vanished to reveal a Koopaling. "It was-a the real Yoshi,"
Everyone was silent for a moment before Tumble took charge. "OK, guys, we had an accident, but we can still press on! In light of this we are relocating to anew board! I hope you brought your eye patches and drunken pirate accents,'cause we're headed for Pirate Land next!" Before anyone could say anything else they were swept up by a wind and blown into the pipe leading to Pirate Land

Meanwhile, back on the rainbow path, a portly MKPD investigator was still wandering around looking for suspicious Koopa-like activity. He came across a pile of fresh, green melons, Yoshi's favorite, and waddled over to them excitedly. As he picked up the first melon he heard a click as a Bullet Bill burst from the blocks nearby and struck him head-on.From the shadows grumbles could be heard from Wendy Koopa who simmered over her plan not going the way she had initially desired even if the end goal had been achieved.

I will be re-stating the Boo role because of the confusion regarding how it works. Update to come shortly on that matter. But I just didn't do it this time because people seemed to have the wrong idea about how it worked. So no coins lost or anything stolen.

Day 1: Mario's Rainbow Castle

Policelights and caution tape flood an early morning scene with colors belaying it'sseverity. The dawn of the next Great Superstar Contest was intended to be abright and happy occasion. Toadlock Homes walked up to a somber lookingMushroom Kingdom Police Department officer speaking with Toadsworth.
"Do wehave an ID on the bodies?" Toadlock asked.
"Therat is Rizzo the Rat, a Muppet," The officer responded.
"Andthe...other...?" Toadlock trailed off, unsure of what the other creature'sspecies was exactly.
"Thatis none other than Gonzo the Great, also a Muppet,"
"Soit's just as I suspected. Both of our esteemed guest hosts for the GreatSuperstar Contest are dead." Toadlock stated flatly. He turned toToadsworth, "Does this meant that the Contest will be cancelled?"
"Wecan't cancel it again!" Toadsworth exploded, "It's been cancelled thelast three years! First the fiasco with the offensive material in the last gameand our primary sponsor Hudsonbacking out, then there is the whole issue of Bowser's Kids running rampantagain. They've learned how to disguise themselves to look like Toad folk. Noteven Mario and Luigi can easily detect their disguises. If we cancel again, wemay never get the games going again."
"Evenif you don't cancel the games, rumors are already starting to fly," WarnedToadlock, "Who would be willing to host on such short notice?"
"Eh,well just make Tumble do it." Shrugged Toadsworth, "He's done itbefore and I happen to know that he's currently job hunting. Hasn't had anywork since Mario Party Advance. The guy will take anything at this point. Theprincess is a sucker for cute little things like him or Lumas so she won'tobject."
"Youknow," Toadlock pondered, "we may be able to use this as anopportunity to track down those blasted Koopa Kids. They love interfering withthese games and if we could get the players to team up to weed them out in themiddle of their pranks, we may kill two Goombas with one shell. The gameproceeds, and we stop our Koopa conundrum."
"Andthe added action will really boost ratings! It might just save the Contest!Great idea. I'll go brief the players about this and get Tumble ready forhosing duty. Remind me to give you a raise later"
"I'malready paid in mushrooms and IOUs...not like I can't get mushrooms frombreaking blocks..." Toadlock mumbled as Toadsworth scuttled off to makesure everything was arranged for the opening ceremony later that day.

Final notes from Tumble:
>Godfather is invisible to the investigations as usual.

>Remember townies your powers change each day so check your PM's to see what you got for the day.

>Stars cost 20 coins. You may buy them any time during the day. No sales occur during then night.

>Apparently due to a misunderstanding or something Khush's mod powers got revoked (sorry, Khush, I asked for them to be restored since I was counting on you to help) so I'll just close the thread when I return from work at night. The official end time is still 11PM in case Khush gets them back, but the same rules I stated before apply where anything done before the thread lock is legit. And Khush, if you do get them back, could you post when you lock the thread so I can compare time stamps. I'm not sure if there is any way to do that without seeing the last post.

>Lastly, everyone (including mafia) gets 10 coins to start! Roles and rolls have been sent out (hehe, I'm sure you're totally ROLLING ON THE FLOOR LAUGHING! ha...ha... *crickets* ...fine)

Go get 'em!

NWR Mafia Games / Mafia XLIII: Mario Party ~Win Prizes~
« on: March 02, 2010, 05:40:05 AM »
Mario Party Mafia! Party Game Turns Deadly!

Time for a new mafia! I'm Tumble and I'll be your host for this Mafia Party! Sign ups will roll (haha!...yeah) until the 14th and the game will start on the 15th.

Days will end at 11PM Pacific Standard Time and the next day will be up later that night (before 3AM PST).

I'm going to be in work most likely during the thread close and will require the assistance of Khush and Vudu to lock the thread at Midnight when I am stuck at work late since I can get off anywhere from 11:15-1:15 depending on the day.

  • General Play
Victory Conditions: The goal is for one side to have the most stars at the end of the game. This is achieved via dice rolls, stealing stars, buying stars with coins and other mischievous shenanigans.Players end the game by having the townies eliminate all of the mafia or the mafia bringing the number of townies to equal or less than their numbers.Elimination victory results in a large star bonus as well.

There are also bonus stars given out at the end of the game for fulfilling secret requirements. I will not tell anyone what these requirements are, though I will say that participation will greatly increase your chances for earning these bonuses.

Eliminated player's star totals are still counted towards the cumulative total at the end of a game and they can still receive post-game bonus stars in death.

On top of cumulative star totals helping your team win the game, the one player on any side that has the single highest total will be awarded the games 'SuperStar' and be awarded a Wii Shop or DSi Shop gift of their choosing. If you live in PAL territories I have an alternative plan or two that hopefully will workout.

Actions: All night actions can be submitted anytime of day and they will occur simultaneously at night. So no action will cancel another action.

Star buying: This is considered a day-time action. Requests to purchase stars will be granted up until the time the thread is locked. Any PMs for stars will be disregarded if they are dated after that time and I will respond to you if your request is too late so you know. You may begin making purchases for new stars again once the new day thread is up which will be a few hours after the previous one is closed. There is no limit to stars for sale. Purchased stars are counted towards your total once the next day begins so they cannot be stolen the night the are being delivered to you.

Voting:The player with the most votes at the end of the day (adding in any special power affects on those votes) is eliminated from the game and their true role and what items they have is revealed. In the event of a tie the player with the lower star and coin total is eliminated.
    Mario & Co. Townie Roles
There are no dedicated townie roles in this game. Instead,at the beginning of every day each player will be PM'd a 'dice role' that I will perform for them using two 6-sided dice that dictates what type of space you are landing on that turn.

    Dice Rolls effects:
  • Red Space -Negates vote in final tally the following day
  • Ballot Box- Can change vote of another player
  • Protection Space - Protected from nightly hit
  • Investigator Space - Can perform an investigation
  • Blue Space- Player's vote count is doubled
  • Star Space- Get a Star

    Koopa Kid Mafia Roles
Godmother - Wendy Koopa: Get's to hit one player a night to remove them from the game. Has a random chance of stealing one ormore stars from the person hit.
Coin Stealer: Iggy Koopa: Can steal a random number of coins each turn from any player of their choice.
Scrambler: Larry Koopa: Gets to randomly switch two player's coins and or stars. This works by the Scrambler PMing the Host two names -remember that the order is important.  The first choice is guaranteed to be chosen. The second only has a 25% chance of being chosen. If it is not chosen another player is chosen at random.
Poison Mushroom Dealer: Lemmy Koopa: This guy gets to pick one person who's vote will be nullified that turn.

    Bribing Boo

    Side Notes
    • Random Chance - Any time random chance is mentioned or used, the Host rolls one or more dice to determine what that outcome is.
    • On the matter of day's passing their time limit without getting shut down, if Khush is for whatever reason not able to close it at 11PM PST the day will continue until I return home and close it myself. This should absolve any confusion about accidental over-time and what happens with it.
  • Player Roster
    Maxi - Luigi
Stevey - Undisclosed Character of Hawtness ;)
    Vudu - Tanookie Suit Mario
    Thatguy - Yoshi
    GP -
    Stogi - Peach
    Mop_it_up - Birdo
    Khush - Daisy
    Dasmos -
    Rabicle - Toadette
    UncleBob - Tatanga
    Nickmitch -

I was talking with a friend who got a crappy kart racer from a friend for Christmas and I got to wondering: what 'casual' gifts have you gotten from family and friends? Why did they give them to you and how did they turn out? Were you surprised at the enjoyment you got out of them if any?

I got Luxor: Pharaoh's Challenge for DS one year. Pretty fun but I would have never bought it.

How about broken games? I know one year my Dad bought me Mechwarrior4and all of it's add-ons and expansions only to discover my computer couldn't run the whole thing.

I'm sure a number of people have some funny gifts they've received over the years 'because they are a gamer'.

Heartbeat is about the experience of growing sound. Players begin with an empty, ambient whisper that they can develop to form a pulsating wall of music while exploring an ever-evolving space.

This is an interesting looking game. You cultivate sound to make music and rhythm. Each phase in the game allows you to build new sounds that are added to the soundtrack as you play.

Capybara is developing it.

Nintendo Gaming / Sooo...what happened to NWR WiFi nights?
« on: October 30, 2009, 04:18:54 AM »
Just wondering is all.

Did Pale forget or what happened?

123
I started playing some GBA games again on my DS and every time the GBA cart boots, as the GBA logo and chime play, I instinctively expect to hear the haunting music of the first Castlevania released for the system (Circle of the Moon) even thought I haven't played the game itself for years. So this got me thinking of what games I instinctively think of when I boot other systems up and why. Circle of the Moon was the first game I got for the GBA so that makes sense. But a few are from later years of systems or even just the company logo of some 3rd parties.

Here's how it is on the other systems:

NES - The silent SMB3 intro (I never knew why there was no sound or music in the beginning of the game ???)
SNES - Capcom Logo/Chime
N64 - Super Mario 64 opening
Gamecube - Eternal Darkness opening
GB - Yoshi (the strange puzzle game)
GBC - Link's Awakening DX
Wii & DS - Their boot menus (sad, huh?)
Genesis/Mega Drive - "SEGA!"

So I ask y'all this: What game intro/music/splash screen do you instinctively expect to hear when you boot up a respective system and why? And do you think this reveals something to you about what type of gamer you are?

General Chat / So I'm an Uncle
« on: September 01, 2009, 02:58:05 PM »
I am now an Uncle! Pretty exciting. I can't believe that my sister had a baby. It's a little weird, actually.

Ethan Cole was 8.5 pounds. And made his mother stay in labor for 24-hours straight. Yikes! He's typically a pretty laid back little guy except when he's hungry or needs a diaper change.

I also came up with a gamer joke related to babies!

Taking care of infants is just like playing a Point-&-Click Adventure game: Both require you to try random things until something works right.

At least that's what it feels like when he's crying. Is it a dirty diaper? Is he hungry? Does he need to be held? Keep trying things until he stops crying. LOL.
