Alright, I'll start it.

So, is this gonna be top down like the first two GTAs or 3D? And will it be the most offensive game to asians since Shadow Warrior?

Third person might work too if they're as good as Sandlot when it comes to squeezing performance out of a system. Of course if they're that good they could even let you "uproot" buildings and throw them at people...

Considering they have basically no experience I doubt they'll be able to pull off a good 3D environment, it'd look like a launch game. I'm excited the game exists, but considering the previous history of GTA on Nintendo handhelds (they are all awful) this could just be another bad game.

Haha I was just thinking...when the game sells poorly, they can port it to the PS2!
I must find a way to use "burninate" more in my daily speech.

Actually, sadly when it sells poorly they'll use that to justify no Wii game. Which sucks, i'd even buy a straight San Andreas Wii port.

I'd only buy that if I could strap the Wiimote around my pants and play Hot Coffee with it.

Anyway, I have a sneaking suspicion that this is 2D and it wasn't shown because media reaction would've been negative. This way everyone is thinking "GTA YESSS!!" rather than "Aw man, top down GTA?" I couldn't care either way as long as it turns out good.

They said that it was the same type of open world, free roaming experience as the the recent console GTA games and it takes place in a "modern" Liberty City (I assume that means GTA 4's Liberty City). Sounds 3D/3rd person to me.

bah. GTF outa Liberty City, I've always hated that environment, it needs color and style. Not blandness. I want the Vice City style to come back.

The official press release doesn't reveal much about the gameplay, but it does shed a little bit light on the story...

I had GTA for the GBA and it was so bad I got from a bargain bin for ten dollars. It didn't stop me from playing, what did was the major glitch that prevented me from beating the game EVER.
I hope at least this one is as good as the PSP title. Generally I'm very bored with GTA ideas and functionality. I really could care how great the game looks because shooting at people is still shooting at people. But since there's nothing I can think of that allows me to call tanks from the sky and wreck havoc on poor fools then I am all for it.
My first response when I heard the press conference was "It's about time". Let's hope it's worth it. Also New York has an insane amount of style and color, it isn't our fault developers can't reflect that *psh*

So I'm betting we are eating right of their hand because they know exactly what we want to know. So they can announce little details not pertaining to whether it's fully 3d or not, while we pay attention to their every word.

Any chance of this being at Nintendo's Fall Conference?

I wouldn't think so, but the next issue of Nintendo Power is supposed to have a feature on it.

I got that issue today. I'm not interested in the game so i haven't read the article yet, but I looked at the screenshots. It's top-down, and it looks like it's 3D and cel-shaded.

http://www.nintendoeverything.com/?p=3796

new China Town Wars info:

Quote
- Cell-shaded graphics/polygons - black borders
- It’s a “real” GTA game - There’s sandbox gameplay, a totally open world, narrative
- Going to be rated M
- Camera angle is isometric (Phantom Hourglass?)
- good touch-screen implementation - “tasteful” minigames, streamlining interface
- UI based on a PDA - hub for email, contacts, map, music player, GPS, stat-tracking
- finger-sized icons
- missions designed for shorter periods of play, arcade quality
- Control pad = aim, R button = auto target
- subtle autosteer
- if you fail a mission, you can jump back to the action sequence
- Weapons include chain gun, flamethrower
- good portion of Liberty City is modeled in the game (different routes than console games)
- Load times aren’t an issue
- lots of pedestrians, cars, etc on screen
- Wanted system - objective is to disable police cars any way possible
- Weather effects (real-time), 24-hour day/night cycle
- A ton of radio stations - more instrumental than vocal
- Wi-Fi and multiplayer support isn’t being discussed, but can upload stats to Rockstar Social Club website through Wi-Fi
