I sold my copy of Pikmin 2 expecting to upgrade to the NPC version. Thanks Reggie! Kidding aside, I really wish that NoA had released Pikmin 2 New Play Control here in North America. It's a great game and would have really benefited from the Wiimote control system.

Not a fan of using homebrew and illegally downloading/playing games... but once the console is truly dead (and it's darned close now) my moral objections hold far less weight. Especially for awesome games that NoA could've easily released but just decided weren't worth the effort.

For people who have done this, do you keep a second system for homebrew? I've got a lot of digital content and don't want to risk issues if I need to send my console to Nintendo for repairs.

Wasn't the reason Homebrew was brought up is so that you could use it to play the Pikmin 2 discs from other regions? I don't see that as piracy. Downloading games you didn't pay for and playing those is piracy, but playing imports from other regions which you paid for is not piracy, in my opinion.

Umm... no.
His Wii doesn't read discs... so it has nothing to do with importing.

I have a question if anyone is able to answer it.

Is it possible to make a Wii with a broken disc drive usable again by hooking up an external DVD drive up to one of the USB ports and then running the game off that? I know the official Wii software would not support this, but is there any chance it could be done with Homebrew?

If it could be done then Zach's broken Wii could be made usable once again. Then he could run an import copy of Pikmin 2 NPC legally without having to pirate.

I think so. You just need homebrew I think. And I have instaled homebrew 2 times but removed because I did not know how to use it. I was 10

If you're going to go through that kind of trouble, why not just get it repaired? It would be a lot easier and probably even cheaper.

I looked on Amazon and USB external DVD drives run for about $39.99 which isn't bad. Of course if you already have one to begin with that's even better...

But the amount of failed Wii disc drives is so low that very few people would use it. And if the drive fails within the first 12 months you have it (15 if you register it with Club Nintendo), Nintendo will fix it for free.

Anyone who would want to do that sort of thing would rather just load all of their games onto a USB hard drive and play them off that, which would actually be easier to set up than an external disc drive.

Pikmin 2 really isn't all that rare (something like 1/2 million was made) so you might want to try local sales--flea markets and what not.

Two, gamestop has it listed for $40 used but if you get it with the deals (most of the time the offer buy 2 get 2 free on older systems) you'll save a bit on coin on that as well.

Or you can actually get the UK version and just get the boot disc Freeloader. UK versions usually go around $25-30 shipped. Reaon why it's cheaper for Europe is because Nintendo re-released it on the WII over there.

The WII U isn't BC with the GC so I'm guessing Pikmin 2 will be an an VC title.

I'm optimistic that at some point after Pikmin 3 is released Nintendo will make a "Pikmin Trilogy" like they did with Metroid Trilogy and then you will be able to get all three games on one Wii U disc. Since the Wii U discs have 25gb of storage space there should be no problem doing that.

The only problem is it would probably end up being a limited edition thing just like Metroid Trilogy, so if you don't buy Pikmin Trilogy before it is discontinued then expect to pay outrageous prices for it on ebay.

Unless Pikmin 3 maxes out the disc with Assets. If any franchise would this is the one that tends to be more Photo Realistic so I could see it.
