They are the exact same game, what difference does it make how long the time between releases is?

If they are indeed the same exact game then Nintendo is ripping people off by forcing them to buy the same game over and over.

There's a sh*t-load of nicotine in SMB.  Don't you remember the US government doing anything they could to eliminate Nintendo during the NES years?

On a side note, I'm curious whether anyone believes people will still be buying re-releases of Black Ops, 20 years from now.  Kind of makes you think about what makes one game a classic, as compared to something else.

That's good because I didn't read anything about a Volcanic Eruption. All this possible Nuclear Meltdown stuff is already way too much for Japan to handle after the devastation from an earthquake and a flood from a tsunami.

I don't know, but it should be noted that the original Call of Duty is available for download off the PSN store (and probably Xbox Live as well). The original COD came out in 2003 I believe, so its 7-8 years old now, but its for sale and I would imagine at least some people are buying it.  So if that's the case why couldn't Black Ops be re-released 20 years from now?

Yes it's out on XBLA, I wasn't aware that there was a PSN version of Call of Duty Classic as well. I think most people that are buying it are doing so because the first game was only released on PC before. FPS games don't tend to age well.

That hasn't stopped them from continuously rereleasing Doom for the last 20 years.

Doom is a great example of a classic.  Virtually every new platform, there's a version of the original Doom for it.  Like Pac-Man or such.

The difference with Call of Duty is that they do a new, mostly identical version every year. That makes it hard for any one of them to stand out as a classic. Not impossible, mind you, as the love for NHL '94 on the Genesis will attest to, but very unlikely.

Why shouldn't Pokemon versions be counted as one?  Black & White for example is the same game minus a few exclusive pokemon that you start with and find in the field.  And I believe you can trade for those exclusive pokemon as well so it's basically the same damn game. 

And the 3DS is going be low for awhile because the supply is limited so it's not surprising to see those numbers.

Without having ever played a pokemon game in my life, I've been making the same exact argument for years. Nobody has ever really sided with me on that argument as far as I remember.

Because many people buy both which leads to inflated sales numbers. I understand the logic of why they are combined, but I don't agree with it.

^that's what I'm talking about. We've had a debate about it some time ago and I think I was the only one arguing for the fact that they are the same exact game minus a few insignificant differences and therefore should be counted together as 2 version of the same game.

But I don't even want to get into that again. so consider that the very brief reminder of what once was and shall not be again... atleast not with me.

I don't want to debate it either which is why I gave a simple answer to the comment. We ended it by agreeing to disagree back then, so there's no reason to get back into it when we know it would have the same outcome. And that's fine, it's just sales figures so it's no big deal.

FPS games don't tend to age well.

Well, that's certainly true in the case of the multiplayer aspect, which would get dated over time, but the single player campaign in Black Ops would be worth playing years from now because of the plot and the story of it which I enjoyed, but since I already completed it (actually I did it three times - one of those times was on veteran) I probably won't care to revisit it, but if its something no one has played before its definitely worth checking out no matter how old it is.

Multiplayer will get dated because there's no plot and its basically just a random free for all killing fest. I'm not saying that's not fun, but over time the engine gets dated and you will get bored of the same guns day in and day out. It won't be able to stand up to a COD game made 10 years from now. For that matter the online servers would probably be long shut down by then anyway...

But again, the single player campaign is something that will hold value indefinitely.
