Damn, Adventures of Link is hard. I don't remember having this much trouble back on the NES.

I already screamed that many times back in the NES days.  I thought that the game was complete unadultered **** back then, and my opinion hasn't changed much.  The original Zelda kicks butt though.

I registered 2 games + cube and that disc is nowhere to be found yet.  After registering I decided to get my son a Nintendo Power subscription for Christmas and that disc is already here.

Hmmm, what ever will I do with the second disc?  I wonder if any neglected Aussies would be interested.......

Yeah, AoL is pretty damn hard. I had to restart the game several times just to get to the first palace without dying because I was trying to get a zero death count. I finally beat the dungeon without dying and saved only to realize that each time you save it adds to your death count. That's complete and utter BS. They actually expected people to beat this game in one sitting without dying once?

Something else I think is completely stupid is that the game makers didn't put in anyway for you to warp to different areas in the over-world. It's just too hard to have to start at the North Castle each time you want to play considering how large the map is and how hard it is to get from one end to the other. Another thing that makes the game difficult is Link's short attack range. If they would have doubled the length of his sword and thrown in some warps in the over-world this game would have been much easier and more enjoyable.

I do have a lot of respect for the game though. Even though it is the black sheep of the Zelda series it was the first game to implement a lot of things that now have to be in a Zelda game. Things like the towns, more interaction with the characters, and the use of magic. There's probably more than that but that's all I can think of right now.

I believe you have until January 31st 2004.

Heh, it's funny reading the reactions of people playing Zelda 2 for the first time.

Worst. Miyamoto game. Evar.

Also, none of you truly own all the Nintendo made Zelda games unless you own Game & Watch Gallery 4, since it includes the Zelda G&W game. It's pretty good, and actually has some depth, relatively speaking.

What i found funny about the bonus disk is that I got it through the subscription method, and when i first got the disk and opened it up the first peice of paper i see is one telling me that i should order Nintendo Power.

I just want to say this is not my first time playing AoL but it has been several years ago. For some reason it seemed a lot easier back then.

It's more of an accomplishment when you own the original games...

hey hey hey.  I only don't own the Zelda 2 and the crappy cdi games.  I was gonna get Zelda 2, but all the copies I have found don't have the battery save working. So hey, what the heck.  I didn't want to waste my money on a copy that didn't work.

Oh well.  IT IS ZELDA TIME!!!

"Another thing that makes the game difficult is Link's short attack range."

That bugs me in both games.  It's an irritating problem in Zelda 1 as well since all Link does is a sissy little stab so you have to be like right next to an enemy to hit him.  Why couldn't they just make it Link SWINGS his sword in both games?  Other NES games have done it so it's certainly not a hardware restriction thing.  If they ever make an updated remake I hope they change the sword attack from a stab to a swing.

At least in Zelda 1 Link had the sword beam that actually went all the way across the screen. The sword beam in Adventure of Link is pathetic and pretty much useless because it only damages the weakest enemies and only travels a few feet.

if they did that people would be complaining that they made the game too easy and they shouldn't mess with classics.

would you like them to add an *umph* everytime link attacks, too?

I'm talking about if they made a remake where they completely redid the graphics and sound and maybe added some new dungeons or items.  It would be sort of like the Resident Evil remake.  I don't want any voice samples though.  Man those always suck.

I wouldn't have a problem with these changes because the original is available on the Cube unchanged.  I have no problem with reworking or remaking a classic provided they allow you to also play the original.  I think the Super Mario Advance games should have allowed you to play it either in the new format or exactly as it was on the NES.

My god, I love this collection.  Now if only I had a LttP game disk for my GCN, I would be totally complete.  Legend of Zelda is definatly harder than I remember, but I will work through it.  Ahh, good times, good times.

I have to say I'm pretty disappointed in Majora's Mask. Even though the slow down is only in a couple of areas it is still very annoying. I also got to experience my first freeze today. Luckily I had just started playing but now I'm paranoid about the game freezing on me again. Even though this was free I'm really surprised that Nintendo released it like this.

I really hope that when Wind Waker 2 is released they have another pre-order bonus disk with just Majora's Mask with all of these problems fixed. Normally I wouldn't expect Nintendo to do that but Ocarina of Time has been released on two bonus disks so it's not impossible. As a note I have the N64 version but after playing the Zelda games with the higher resolution I refuse to play them on my N64. The N64 versions have such horrible resolution I get sick from looking at the screen and it gives me headaches.

The port of MM is average to say the least.  It still chugs along in the hub world in some area's, but overall there seems to be alot less slowdown than in the N64 version.  Plus, high-res goes a long way, so much easier on the eye's.  The graphics are actually really pretty good, even by today's standards when in high-res.  Overall, I am happy that I can play MM on my Cube, even with some slowdown still intact.

You do realize that MM is being emulated on the GC?  MM was a last gen game from the N64.  I'm surprised they have it running as good as they do or even at all.  They can't fix the problems, because the GC just isn't powerful enough to emulate the later N64 games, no matter what they do.  I mean they could tone down the graphics and remove a few system hogging effects, but you'd just complain about that too.
