Nintendo Switch 2021 Statistics!
« on: December 14, 2021, 02:27:26 PM »
It's that time of year again! When Nintendo starts revealing some of the data they've been secretly compiling about us! Yaaaayyy......

So, what are the statics everyone is getting?

For myself, I

  • Played 35 games
  • Played 362 hours
  • Most Played games are Astral Chain (43 hours), Ring Fit (41 hours), and No More Heroes 3 (40 hours)
  • Most active day was Last Saturday 12/11 where I played for 7 hours
  • 322 hours on the TV vs. 39 hours handheld

Here was my favorite game of the year:

Spent hours on Switch: 91

Top 3 games:

- Xenoblade 2 (26 hours)
- Metroid Dread (23 hours)
- Xenoblade Definitive Edition (12 hours)

Compared to 205 hours in 2020 spent largely on...

- Xenoblade Definitive Edition (88 hours)
- Tokyo Mirage Sessions Encore (54 hours)
- Paper Mario: The Origami King (32 hours)

Yeah, 2021 was a **** year for Switch. I'm surprised I even had 91 hours of play time this year.

Awww. They didn't give out nicknames/titles to sum up the type of gamer you were. I wanted to see if I nailed Nintendo Loyalist for another year. Guess I'll just have to assume I did. Let's see the numbers:

This Year:

Played 24 Games (That's a lie. Some of those titles were just things I turned on and off to move around my Switch main menu)

Played for 334 hours. Most active day is Saturday Nov. 6 with 10 hours and 8 hours spent on Metroid Dread that day. 318 hours docked vs 17 hours handheld.

Most Played Games:
-Clubhouse Games 51 Worldwide Classics - 93 hours (I beat Broodwars total 91 hours with just this game)
-Metroid Dread - 48 hours
-SNES Online - 40 hours

Last year I played:

-19 games (again, I question this number)
-412 total hours played

Top 3 Games:
-Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition - 187 hours
-Tetris 99 - 66 hours
-SNES Online - 48 hours

The SNES Online keeps coming up third! If Xenoblade Chronicles X had been re-released on Switch then I'd have easily surpassed last year's total hours played. Can't believe I played that much on Switch since it felt like so much of 2021 was Wii U. However, in the breakdown of total time played:

You can see when I lost interest in XCX and Clubhouse Games started taking over. Wrapped it up in Backlaugust. Then there there was the Metroid bump in October and November which led to my doing a bunch of games on Switch like MK8, Part Time UFO, Lumines, more Tetris 99 and SNES Online.

Most played:
Dauntless (332 hours)
Volta-X (29 hours)
Horizon Chase Turbo (17 hours)

418 hours total (all docked)

20 games total

Most active day: Saturday, May 29th (8 hours of Dauntless) - Guessing that was the month the Choronovore made its debut. Had bought that battle pass...

Once again I stepped up my game this year compared to last.

54 games played in 2021 compared to 48 games in 2020.

755 hours played in 2021 so far compared to 655 hours in 2020.  The website is constantly updating since this number was actually at 742 when I first saw the stats earlier this week, so by the end of the year I actually might break the 800 hour mark.

Top 3 games were

1. Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana: 85 hours

2. Xenoblade 2:  77 hours

3. Super NES Online:  74 hours

Most active day was Sunday May 30th where I put 8 hours into Ys VIII that day.

So yeah, it was a pretty productive year.  These numbers will probably be much lower next year since in 2022 I hope to finally go back and finish off my 3DS backlog, since I haven't played that system since Fall 2018.  Still got quite a few big RPG's on the 3DS I'd like to finally do which will probably cut a few hundred hours off the Switch next year.

Last year this showed a top five, but now it's only top three? Bummer.

No surprises in mine which shows my top three as:

Monster Hunter Rise
Plants Vs Zombies Battle for Neighborville
Super Mario Bros. 35

I liked SMB 35 more than I expected so I played it regularly up until it was disabled.

However, whatever method they're using to compile these stats appears to be inaccurate, at least for me. Based on the hours shown here and what's logged on my actual system, I know that at least Super Mario 3D World should be in the second slot. Not sure what's going on there.

I think the numbers are probably slightly delayed. At the bottom it tells you when it gathered your data, for me that was November 29th, so they're about 3 weeks off.

My stats:
1. Hades - 111 hours
2. Picross S: Sega Genesis & Master System Edition - 37 hours
3. Metroid Dread - 19 hours

Yeah, oops, fell down the Styx in a big way again. Hades remains really good, and it's still surfacing new conversations every few runs. Must've been a nightmare for QA testing.
My overall numbers decreased by a hefty 190 hours over last year. Although I suppose last year was my first year on Switch, so the early excitement, WFH, and Animal Crossing were always going to contribute to higher numbers.
It says I played 36 games this year, but I'm pretty sure that includes demo/NSO trials, so those numbers seem artificially inflated.

Main takeaway for me: I play mostly short stuff, and should really stop buying those AAA games Square & Bethesda keep putting on discount, because I don't really play them anyway. Metroid's the only one I made time for really.

I mainly played Super Mario 3D World back in February and March, so this isn't the reason for me.

A new year means I take another look at my order of most-played games on the Switch! First up is the top 24, but at this point less and less tends to change with this list, so for the first time I'm including a second image of numbers 25-48, which has some more movers and shakers!

And the next 24:

Since the edge game icons can be a bit tough to recognise, here is a text list:

1. Super Mario Maker 2
2. Paladins: Champions of the Realm
3. Splatoon 2
4. Animal Crossing New Horizons
5. Fortnite
6. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate
7. Minecraft: Nintendo Switch Edition
8. Sega Genesis Classics
9. Monster Hunter Rise
10. Super Mario Odyssey
11. Diablo III
12. Super Mario Bros. 35
13. Pokémon Shield
14. SNES Online
15. Super Mario 3D World
16. Luigi's Mansion 3
17. Super Kirby Clash
18. Rune Factory 4
19. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
20. Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
21. Stardew Valley
22. DooM
23. NES Online
24. Dragon Quest Builders 2
25. Snack World: The Dungeon Crawl - GOLD
26. Overwatch
27. Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle
28. Minecraft
29. Risk of Rain 2
30. N64 Online
31. Terraria
32. Tetris 99
33. Paper Mario: The Origami King
34. Spyro Reignited Trilogy
35. Portal Knights
36. Pokémon Unite
37. World of Final Fantasy Maxima
38. Crash Team Racing Nirto-Fueled
39. Super Mario Party
40. Rocket League
41. Turok 2: Seeds of Evil
42. Tumblestone
43. Lego Worlds

45. Sushi Striker: The Way of Sushido
46. PixelJunk Monsters 2
47. Duke Nukem 3D World Tour
48. Nine Parchments

I threw two extra to make it an even 50.
