...
The cheapest in stock version they have is 239 Pounds so 402 Dollars and 20 Cents.
...
That is out of Stock.  You can't buy it for that price and I doubt you ever would be able to.  They were just clearancing out Basics.

Wii U can beat the hell out of xbox one in Japan but it will be hard pressed to do so in the US because even those who abandon the one will just get a PS4 instead.

WiiU and PS4 are now selling just about even in japan with WiiU poised to overtake it when MK8 comes out. As far As I know, there are no more ps4 shortages in East Asia and the 8,000 per week number is based on demand.

I am just curious does that mean there are no big games coming out in Japan either for Ps4 then? Because I would expect Sony to try harder in their homeland. I thought there was a new Final Fantasy coming out soon.

Post-launch droughts aren't just a Nintendo thing. They'll have stuff later in the year, but for the next few months it'll likely be pretty thin.

time it takes for a console to drop below 10k per week

Gamecube - 5 weeks (shortages)

PS4 - 11 weeks

WiU - 12 weeks

Dreamcast - 16 weeks

Vita - 17 weeks

3DS - 24 weeks (the week before the big price cut, only week the 3DS dropped below 10k)

PS3 - 27 weeks

PS2 - 29 weeks (shortages, PS2 sales dropped to 3k)

GBA - 214 weeks

Wii - 224 weeks

NDS - 322 weeks

PSP - 371 weeks

All by Famitsu

Look at these numbers... For as well as the PS4 has been selling  world wide, I doubt it will be able to catch wiiu in japan before march 2015 at the
earliest.

Basically all the games currently available on the system are Western-focused. That, and Japan's overwhelming preference for handhelds, is the cause of those numbers.

Japan is just not the console megapolis that it once was. When you think about these sales combined with the rise of iOS/android gaming, it trends toward a major decline in that part of the world. Major game designers jumping ship to go indie is a another sign of the shift in the Japanese gaming taste. I'm not talking a collapse, just retraction.  Neither  Sony nor Nintendo had there ducks in a row for Japan. Could that be because for the first time ever, Japan is 3rd on the list of priorities for the eastern game companies? I don't know I'm just talking over here. I know that Nintendo is targeting Indonesia, India and China big time with an estimated 800,000,000 potential gamers. Lets see how it works out.

Looks like my huge backlog may become my new "frontlog". I kinda mostly dislike western games.

Sony's clearly treating Japan as an afterthought with the PS4. They're aiming it at the west, at least for now, without huge amounts of effort toward winning over Japan. The home console market there isn't worth planning a strategy around anymore. Nintendo needs to realize that sooner rather than later.

Well in Nintendo's case, the Wii still sold a lot of software in Japan so it's not hard to see why Nintendo still planned the Wii U with Japan in mind.  The PS3 only had 1 million seller in Japan while the Wii had 14 million sellers with 13 of them from Nintendo themselves with some like NSMB Wii selling over 4 million copies.  Plus all 13 of those Nintendo million sellers sold even more in the West.

Yes with the Wii U doing poorly everywhere the strategy didn't work this time, but it's not hard to see why Japan was still important when they were planning the Wii U since the Wii still made a lot of money over there, despite it selling much less then in the West.  The train of thought is if the system is popular in Japan, it'll be even more popular in the West like all their other home consoles were.  Even right now when the sales are terrible everywhere, the system is still most popular in North America with the best selling Nintendo games in Japan, selling even better here, so this way of thinking is still true.  Not providing the best numbers this time but the thought itself is still true.

Right, and it's because Nintendo is still a near-singularly Japanese company. There's HQ and then there's localisation and marketing shops set up overseas. Sony is an international megacorp that has increasingly elevated people from western territories. That's why I think expecting Nintendo to turn around and churn out a new PS4.5 console in 2016-7 to compete in the westernized console warz is just never going to happen.

Basing things on what happened with the Wii is a really dumb idea. The insane way that thing sold was a massive fluke and not something Nintendo had any hope of repeating.

Nintendo Dominates Japan.  A lot of what they did with the WiiU catered to Japan.  Looking at the Sales charts the Wii U tends to have more games sold in Japan then the PS4.  We're not even talking Handheld into the mix.

Nintendo knows its home territory pretty well.  Its everywhere else that is the problem.

let me rephrase my question, were those sales numbers you posted JUST for Japan only or were they including other regions. I need more info for that list to mean anything. I get that Japan is not the major market for consoles anymore, supposedly, but I am just curious what were the games situation like with those previous consoles and were those numbers just Japan.

Those were for JAPAN ONLY. Dating back about 15 years or so. I did that because up until this gen, Japan was the measuring stick for which a console was judged for the most part.

My other point is with XboxOne doing almost bad in the US and WIIU and PS4 almost tied in japan, Nintendo is in a better position than some thought if they can capitalize on MarioKart 8, E3 and the like.

Beating the Xbox One does not automatically equate to being healthy. LaserDisc beat CED, Beta Max beat out Video 8, and let me see, oh yeah Jaguar beat out 32X. Yet none of those came close to their other competition. I have no doubt Wii U can sell more than Xbox One but if One is also a failure being less of a failure does not make it suddenly a success.

Bandai Namco, saving idol video games one at a time. The latest idolm@ster game tops the chart. Not bad for a series that got its start on the Xbox 360. The less you know about Moero Chronicle the better for it is a Compile Heart game on the Vita that involves touching. The Japanese version of Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed seems to be dead on arrival. Perhaps Sega should have added Hatsune Miku as a racer.

I was thinking about Japan Population.  Its 127 Million it seems.  Thought it was less.  So that means only about ~2% of the Population owns Monster Hunter 4 and ~12% own a 3DS.  Looking at those types of numbers puts things in perspective.  That's actually not that big of a percentage for ownership...

I'm guessing the PS4 is on a game drought right now?

Barely selling more than the Wii U this week.
Not a single game in the Top 20
and only about 1/3 of Wii U LTD

When did PS4 Launch in Japan? I can see it was this year as YTD & LTD macth.

I know all about the handheld preference of Japan, big reason why I think Nintendo is researching a hybrid console/handheld.

I would just find it funny if Nintendo won the console space in Japan on the technicality that consoles are dead, so first come was first served.
Hybrid would be the only profitable way to move forward.
I would think that vita TV would be doing better too... if vita itself was more successful.
Maybe Nintendo can step in, combine all 3 into a hybrid like system and make it work.
