Wii U is dropping 5-10% each week though...if they keep that up it'll take a while.

How quickly will this temporary boost last?

And its funny seeing the Sony fanboys on GameFAQs react (like one idiot saying the Vita is now slamdunking 3DS, by selling 4% more than it and the first time since the Vita launch to outsell 3DS).

Yes, because it's SO hard to pick on the likes of GameFAQs message board users. They just never leave you an easy opening!

I'll be interested to see if Soul Sacrifice ends up being the Monster Hunter-like experience enough to stabilize the Vita in Japan, considering just about every other game Sony showed on the recent Vita Heaven broadcast was also a Monster Hunter knock-off.

The Wii U will definitely pick up in the coming weeks. I'm not sure how much impact Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate and Dragon Quest X will have since they are already on other systems, but they'll definitely provide some sort of boost.

The Vita's boost will last as long as new desirable games keep coming out for it.  So far, they do not have a Monster Hunter or Animal Crossing of their own.  So unless they find it, they will need volume to keep the momentum.

The February NPD report should pop up later today.

The talk through the grapevine has the Wii U selling ~80k, the Xbox 360 at ~300k, and Dead Space 3 taking the top spot away from Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.

EDIT:
GameSpot.com
Fire Emblem: Awakening sold 180,000 units in February (more than 117,000 at retail + more than 63,000 digitally), Nintendo has announced.

That sounds pretty good.

EDIT, EDIT:

Considering Sony abandoned Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time after dropping the price to $40 during the pre-order period, I'm thrilled to see that the game charted at all.  That it sold at least more than Fire Emblem's 117K retail copies makes me hopeful that the game sold respectively enough (especially after it releases in Europe in a few weeks) to convince Sony to keep Sanzaru around for another game.  Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time was a fantastic game made by people who obviously had a great deal of love for the franchise and its characters.  They made a great game, so hopefully the fans (those who knew the game was out) rewarded them and will reward them for it in Europe.  I'd hate to see Sony close that studio down like they have so many others lately.

Other than Sly, the NPDs went more or less as I expected.  Having just finished Dead Space 3, it does not in any way; shape; or form deserve those sales, but it had a massive marketing campaign behind it so seeing it Chart #1 was expected.  I am kind of surprised that Revengeance charted as low as it did, outsold by NBA 2K13 (All-Star Weekend) and Black Ops 2 (b/c it's Call of Duty).  And I'm surprised that anyone's surprised that Aliens: Colonial Marines sold as it did, considering the large pre-order numbers & being tied to a popular franchise.  We'll never see it on the NPDs again, though.

I love my Wii U and so does my daughter, but the sales are just flat out terrible. No Wii U games in the top 10? Getting outsold by 360 by nearly 3:1? I don't buy that many games these days (too busy with school), but I'd still like to have a nice selection to choose from when I do.

The system needs to have games first.  Kind of hard to have games in the Top 10 when nothing was released for the system in February.  I'd say the Wii U sales are actually good for a system with no games being released for it, since it has an excuse for selling so poorly.  If the Wii U actually had a decent lineup of games being released and was still doing this bad, then Nintendo would actually be in trouble.

Once Nintendo starts releasing more of their own big guns like Mario Kart, 3D Mario, Wii Sports, as well as drop the price, then the sales will pick up like they did for the 3DS when it's price was dropped and it got more major games released for it.

So Wii U went from 55,000 units in January to 80,000 units in February; a shorter month and still no new games released? I'd say that was actually pretty impressive, all things considered.
Were there new bundles or something? I can't remember.

It lends credence to the talk that Wii U sales were hurt by a massive number of returns in January. The people saying that said actual sales were around 100,000, which makes the 80,000 this month make more sense.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon debuts nicely with almost 300k units sold. Castlevania: Lord of Shadows - Mirror of Fate doesn't fair as nicely at all. The Playstation Vita maintains a steady pace as new software for the system also lands in the top 20.

For reference, the first Luigi's Mansion on GameCube supposedly sold somewhere in the region 190,000 copies in its first week of release in Japan - and that was at the launch of the system, let's not forget.

Good for you, Dark Moon. I'm hoping my order arrives tomorrow for the European launch.
