Call of Duty in it's most basic sense just lacks any sort of style that I find even remotely interesting.  It's too straight.  I like my videogames to be a little bit more fantastic.  When I was a kid EA's games were of the least interest to me.  Not just sports games like Madden but titles like Jungle Strike.  They had this style that was too realistic for me to get into.  The whole thing just seems boring.  Say what you want about the glut of space marine first person shooters but there is a certain fantastic element to duking it out with aliens that makes it stand out more.  But even then a lot of them have a certain gritty realistic style that plays it a little too straight.  Doom was honestly kind of goofy if you really look at it.  I'm the same way with action movies.  You give me some political thriller based on a Tom Clancy book and I'm just not interested.  I need something a little more campy.

One thing that also plays into my disinterest is that CoD is so obviously super cool in the eyes of teenagers and college students.  You can tell it is right up their alley.  Well I'm not in that age group anymore and, honestly, the stuff people in that age group think is cool, I find to be incredibly lame.  You make anything designed for today's 17 year old and you make something that I'm just going to be rolling my eyes at the whole time.  Now I was that age once and there was some stuff from that time period that other people would have thought was stupid that just played into my tastes at the time.  That's just how things go.

Look at the ad for Black Ops with Kobe Bryant in it.  If you think that ad is cool, I would probably not get along very well with you.  That ad, and thus I can assume the product, is very clearly aimed at someone that is very different from me.

A very neat extra. I appreciate games including Enemy Waves modes or Horde modes. I'm even more appreciative if they include a skirmish mode with bots for a little target practice. Props to Treyarch including something that used to be an out-of-the-box given before Counter Strike, Halo, and increasing broadband internet availability came about.

When did this become the "What is CoD:BO really about?" thread?
It went from SKU sales to shooters and annual installments. Activision was thrown in to the mix and that will undoubtedly bring up Call of Duty.

It's something to pass the time until the next sales numbers gets posted.

No, the silent player character has a name. Actually, most shooters are pretty good about giving your character a name even if they don't give him or her a voice.
Ah, I guess I just forget about it then since they usually aren't really given a personality.

Call of Duty in it's most basic sense just lacks any sort of style that I find even remotely interesting.  It's too straight.  I like my videogames to be a little bit more fantastic.
I agree with most of what you say. I don't like realistic games, because I live in reality, so they don't offer me things I can't see in person or on the telly. Realism is bland and uninteresting. The setting in DooM may be generic, but it's still much more interesting to me than any war shooter. Then you also have a problem where realistic games can't actually be realistic and still be videogames. A person can't take three bullets in the chest and then go hide in a corner for five seconds and magically get healed, and you also have smaller things like how you can reload your gun before you empty your clip and the clip's bullets will magically be combined with another clip. Games that strive for realism just get stuck in the middle, and things like this really stick out like a sore thumb because they couldn't happen in reality. Fantasy games don't have this problem.

Black Ops features several modes where you battle it out against Zombies.
Just one mode, at least in the Wii version. Too bad it's hindered by the poor conventions of the Call of Duty gameplay, but that's just me. The mode in TimeSplitters is more my style.

Well, the fries used to be the big thing at McDonalds, but then all the health nuts had to get into a frenzy about the franchise and the fries are now a pale shadow of their former selves.  Wendy's now has the best fries now, IMO, so if I eat out that's usually where I go.  Coca-Cola has its moments (especially Cherry Coke), but I'm a Pepsi/Dt. Dr. Pepper guy.  As for Call of Duty, I'm still trying to figure out why that's so popular.  The games are entertaining enough in their own way, but none of them (and I've played all the post-Modern Warfare games) have been anything extraordinary IMO.  Then again, I completely ignore multiplayer in my games, so that probably explains that.

I'm the opposite, I've played only the multiplayer of Call of Duty. It's remarkable only in its feature set, everything else, from the maps to the weapons, are mostly uninteresting in design and/or bland.

I'm too young to have experienced McDonald's fries back when they cooked them in lard, so I have no idea if they were ever actually good. I just know I'd rather take the time to fry up my own batch, because they're much more tasty.

The fact that CocaCola tastes good only when something else is added to it speaks of its blandness. I do like Vanilla Coke, but it's only because of the vanilla, and vanilla creme soda is much better.

I guess blandness sells. It does have the widest appeal, after all.

Are you younger than 10?

McD's only changed their fries about 7 years ago after Super Size me came out in 2004.
Now the only thing worth pulling through a McD's drive thru for is the Sweet Ice Tea and even that is hit or miss.

Coca Cola took out their game winning ingredient(cocaine) many many decades ago, but they are still the only soda to contain product from the Cocoa plant where that Winning (tm by Charlie Sheen) ingredient is made from. Not sure why it has stayed as popular though.... especially after watching it desolve meat and then polish a chrome bumper better that dedicated products on Myth Busters a few years back.

Call of Duty... I haven't played it, so I can't really comment on it, but Activision needs to keep capturing that lightning in a bottle as many times as it can for as long as they can.

The reason they stopped cooking in Lard was because a Hindu man sued them awhile back because they were cooked in Beef fat and he ate the fries rightly assuming they were vegetarian in nature, but as you may also know the Cow is a sacred animal in Hinduism so eating that was a serious offense to him and his religion. And of course McDonalds like any other business doesn't want to receive flak for being intolerant or offensive to various religions so they voluntarily just changed it. And I don't think it was that long ago when it happened because I remember it and I'm not an old man....

Pig fat would also be a problem because it would be offensive to Jews and Muslims. Not to mention that any animal fat period would be offensive to vegetarians and vegans.

Sadly, Trans Fat came about as a result of Lard being phased out. Lard is actually a lot healthier than trans fat is. The appeal that Lard has is that it remains solid at room temperature, which is important. Unfortunately, vegetable shortening generally does not stay solid at room temperature and therefore it gets chemically modified and converted into Trans Fat so that it is able to stay solid at room temperature. But it will clog up your arteries worse than anything. Back in the olden days Lard was used for most cooking and baking. Nowadays its all trans fat.

I don't think that's the reason they've stopped using such ingredients (or at least in the case of lard), it's because of the health nuts, who probably don't eat the stuff anyway. But I'm too lazy to look up the reasons why McDonald's food has changed over time.

All I know is that I've never liked their fries, they've been salty and soggy for as long as I can remember. Unfortunately, ever since Crisco cut out the trans fats, my own fries haven't been quite as tasty. I guess trans fats are good flavour.

*shrugs*

All I know is that McDonalds fries use to be the best in fast food, and now they suck.  While I understand the religious problems with perhaps why McDonalds can't cook them the way they used to, one of my childhood favorites foods is now essentially banned because people got offended.  And if what Chozo said is true, we have even less healthy food now as a result.  Hooray for political correctness and "Super-size Me", I guess.  *sigh*

Everything that tastes good is bad for you and probably offends someone out there.  I wish people would just find or do something else when they are offended, rather than ensuring that those that do enjoy it can't anymore.

Actually back on 2007 or 2008 is when they abolished Trans Fats, 2004 is when they stopped using the oil/grease they were using and switched to vegetable oil or whatever it was.

and according to wiki
Quote
McDonald's was assumed to fry their fries for a total time of about 15 to 20 minutes, and with fries fried at least twice. The fries appear to contain beef tallow, or shortening.

Beef Tallow is beef lard not pork.
