The Conduit 2 Announced in Nintendo Power
« on: March 29, 2010, 04:09:57 PM »
The latest Nintendo Power has new information on the next Conduit title.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=22817

The latest issue of Nintendo Power confirms that a sequel to High Voltage Software's The Conduit is in development. According to the preview, The Conduit 2 will once again be published by Sega.

The sequel will focus a lot more on the game's art and story, two aspects criticized by many in the first title. Another much-maligned aspect of the original was its lack of local multiplayer; in response, The Conduit 2 will feature split-screen multiplayer for up to four players. Other multiplayer modes confirmed include a co-op Invasion mode for up to four players, online and off.

The online modes and features seen in the first Conduit game will return in the sequel, like WiiSpeak support, Bounty Hunter mode and several other modes. There will also see different classes with unique skills. Suits can also be upgraded, such like robotic legs that will let players sprint farther.

The Conduit 2 will take place in Atlantis. Other locations that the sequel will feature include Siberia, Washington and Agartha. It is also said to feature new weapons like the Vortex Canon and the Phase Rifle. Up to seven new weapons will be featured in the sequel. Some old weapons will also be returning, and some of them will even receive a facelift.

No release dates were given at the moment.

Hot diggity damn!!!  As someone who liked the original Conduit a lot (once you actually got into an online game there was no trouble from there) i'm glad they are giving themselves the chance to improve upon the first.  I honestly think the first one got undeservingly trashed, especially when it was compared to big budget shooters like Killzone and Halo, it's a game where you've got to take into account it was self funded by a fairly small independent company so it wasn't going to have all the bells and whistles of thoes other games.  at least not from the get go.

Other multiplayer modes confirmed include a co-op Invasion mode for up   to four players, online and off.
Sounds like a take on Gears of War's horde mode to me.

I hope they have the Carbonizer Mk16 again, some of the weapons I think were one of the highlights of the game.  And I havn't had as much fun with a pistol since the original Halo, please don't gimp it like Bungie did.

Story and art are important and definitely need the attention, but I hope they also focus on level design, enemy A.I., and overall pacing. Those were the main elements that made The Conduit feel like a very pretty N64 shooter.

Despite taking the first one back a week or so after buying it I want to reserve some hope for the sequel.

As for a weapon I'd want to see... some sort of booby trap like the ol' proximity mines.
Mission...complete?

I enjoyed the Conduit but local multiplayer was something it was really lacking.  I'll definitely be picking this one up too.

Except it was nowhere near as good as Nintendo 64 shooters.

So basically if they redesign everything from the first game they'll be fine. ;)

So if the story, art, level design, enemy A.I. and overall pacing all need work then what the hell does the first game have going for it?

Wii game with online play & WiiSpeak. It's an embarrassingly rare combination.

To be frank. The same thing a dead body next to a group of stranded starving passengers has going for it. It's one of just a couple of options.

I had a lot of doubts about the first game but I gave it a shot. It was terrible IMO. I'm not expecting much from the follow up. It seems gamers give HVS a break for just starting out but they've been around forever and have yet to build a great game.

I count 5. which 3 did you forget?
And there may be a few more that I forgot too.

But he's right, only Turok and Doom were the two good ones.

The first Conduit game has many good qualities, especially polished graphics and tight controls. I don't think the game design needs to be completely rethought, but it needs to be tightened up a LOT for the sequel to feel more modern and competitive with shooters on other platforms. The original's online play was fine in theory, but broken in practice, so that also just needs a lot of development to give a better experience to the user.

If The Grinder comes this year, then I will get that before I get this, although this should be real good practice for that...... so maybe I'll get both.

Yeah, the story really wasn't told all that well and it was THIN at best.   I think they should impove that arm gadget too.

Sequels can surpass the orginals--hell just look at RS2 so hopefully they/sega do it better this time :0.

I didn't play The Conduit extensively after a run through the story campaign, but I'm wanting to give the sequel a try. (That and I'd like to see how my girlfriend takes to Wii FPS controls, compared to her experience with double-sticks in Killzone and Halo)
