New Wind Waker HD Details Revealed
« on: June 11, 2013, 10:34:30 AM »

Faster boat travel, and Tingles Bottle shown off.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/34513

The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD has been shown in video form, some new features have been discussed.

Graphically the game's art style looks very much like the original game in terms of lighting and overall shading. One of the new additions that was discussed was about a new item called the Tingle Bottle. This item lets users put a message in the bottle and then allows them to cast it out into the ocean, the message will then be sent through the Miiverse with the bottle washing up on the shores of other players games.

A tweak to the sailing was also revealed, players can now speed up their sailing speed, making traveling across the overworld less tedious.

I know this is due to watching the trailer on my crappy computer, but for almost the entire trailer I thought they were showing the Gamecube version.  I kept waiting for them to reveal the updated look.

I couldn't tell the difference over a crappy Internet video, but at least it appears they didn't change the style as the original screens seemed to indicate.

The bloom effects and HDâ„¢ blur needs to have a slider to tone them down or turn it off.

Man, you guys need to see an HD video of this game, it looks gorgeous! The new lighting, shaders, and redone models look great in motion. I can't wait to see this on my 55" panasonic.

To those who think this doesn't look better than it does on Gamecube or even dolphin, go back and look at the original game again. They should have had a side-by-side video because they certainly had a lot of in-game footage of the HD version to compare it to.  The original looks drab and washed out in comparison, especially with the lighting.

This 720p video might not be doing it full justice. But WW upres'ed on Dolphin with all the additional shaders does look pretty nice, so if this remake is at least like that, it's a good thing. It's not ZOMFG, but pretty nice.

There are youtube videos of  WW on Dolphin that are very high quality. Watch the 1080p videos at full screen. That probably gives us a better idea. Just for kicks, also check out TP and SS using Dolphin. They upres even better than WW does.

Wind Waker is already so pretty (having played it recently I can confirm that it holds up) that while this HD version is welcome, for me it isn't necessary.

Majora's Mask on the other hand...I'd love to see that game remade.

If they add one or two of those dungeons that were left out of the first game, I'm in; otherwise, though I love me some Wind Waker, I'll have to pass on it.

I could see the difference in the between the video and the original Gamecube game, but, as others have stated, the reason the contrast isn't so great is that Wind Waker's original art choices stand out and make the game age well.  The art style is still great on the Wii U, but it isn't the right choice for showcasing HD.

Still, if it gives more people the chance to play this great game, then I'm for it.  I'm just not sure it would be for me at this point, since I can easily play the old version.

I may have missed it, but have the developers stated anything about the control scheme?  Are they mapping it to motion controls or will they keep the control scheme in the traditional style?  I would hope it's the latter.

They mentioned adding GamePad support (motion aiming, touch screen Wind Waker baton control), but you can still play it the same way you could on GameCube. I hope the Pro Controller is supported. Twilight Princess Wii controls is probably asking too much even though it's perfect for the game, more so than even Twilight Princess as odd as that sounds.
