Anyone want to take bets on how big of a boost Wii sales will get from Dragon Quest X? Will it be at the top of the list once more?

I'm guessing it will be. This may be different from the typical Dragon Quest game, but it's still a numbered entry in the series so I think it's going to be a big hit.

It will probably boost to 20-30k. I'd imagine most people who want Dragon Quest X will also have a Wii already.
My prediction is that Dragon Quest X will open between 400-500k units.

Dragon Warrior VII did incredibly well despite coming out 5 1/2 years after PS1 came out and after PS2 was already out (in Japan), and provided a nice boost for the system despite it being widely sold already.

True, but the Wii has had much better market penetration than the PS1. Added with the fact DQ X is a MMORPG it is going to have far less market appeal than DQ VII had. I'm probably going to be wrong but I don't see the Wii having a mini revival for a week with units flying off the shelves.

From the Neogaf sales thread apparently DQ X has had a 50% sell through of the edition bundled with USB and a 30% sell through for the stand alone copy. So it looks like it is on track to sell 300-400k for its first week.

Dragon Quest X is already off to a much better start then Final Fantasy XI which Square Enix has said ended up being the most profitable Final Fantasy in the series, even though it's one of the worst selling Final Fantasy's, thanks to the people buying it constantly paying the online fee's month after month for many years.

So Dragon Quest X despite selling worse then previous Dragon Quest, could still end up being the most profitable game in the series thanks to online fee's over the next several years.

Weird. Enterbrain has different sales numbers for this week.
Source: http://andriasang.com/con269/weekly_sales/

Anyway, as expected, a softer launch than usual for a numbered Dragon Quest game. Hardly a surprise, although if the online catches on, it could have long legs in the charts.

There's also the fact that digital download sales aren't being tracked in these charts.  The charts we see here each week only show the numbers for retail sales, not online sales.  Only Nintendo has access to those numbers and has said they'll eventually release them.  So NSMB 2 sales are actually higher then what these charts are showing, but how much higher we won't know until Nintendo releases the numbers.

I wasn't thinking NSMB2 digital sales so the numbers from both are higher, and that might skew the overall percentages.  Still, I was expecting to do better than it did it's first full week out than it did in the first 3 days.  I guess my initial surprise was that 2/3 of the total units sold in the first 1/3 of the time and my reflex mental math (based on super limited data) suggested that it would sell only 100k in the next 2 weeks and only 50k next month etc. which I'm not suggesting will happen.

It's hard to factor in digital sales. All PSV games I believe are available for digital download for cheaper.  So the numbers we see on the charts also don't reflect those games either.  But we put the system down all the time (not saying it's good, but you can't be selective on what digital sales you say mean something).

Quote from: Siliconera
Hardware sales were down year-over-year by 32%. “Of the hardware platforms that were on the market last July, only one, the 3DS, realized a unit sales increase over last year,” says the NPD’s Anita Frazier. Additionally, while the DS and 3DS saw increased sales over the month prior, all other platforms declined from their June numbers.

Meanwhile, physical software sales in the U.S. (this includes PC games) dropped by 23% year-over-year to $278.2 million. The important thing to note is that this only accounts for physical goods. The NPD estimate that if you were to take digital sales—including full game purchases, DLC, rentals, subscriptions and mobile apps into account—the spend on software would amount to $1.1 billion.

...

While it isn’t mentioned in the list above, the NPD Group point out that, if the list were divided up by individual console SKUs, Pokémon Conquest would be in the top-ten (again) as well. They also pointed out that both Batman: Arkham City and Dead Island saw a boost, thanks to the release of their Game of the Year editions.

The Vita gets put down because of its terrible hardware sales though.  While Vita digital sales might have made some games higher, it still doesn't change the fact the hardware sales have been a total disaster.  The Vita hasn't even hit the 1 million mark in Japan yet even though it's been out for about 8 months.  In just this year alone, the Vita has only sold over 400k in Japan so far, while the 3DS has sold over 2.6 million within the same time span.

Plus in the case of NSMB 2 you can be selective since it's a new game from an extremely popular series, NSMB 2, on a system way more popular then the Vita which means it could easily be putting up some big digital sales which could account for a significantly higher overall sales.  The DS NSMB sold eventually sold over 6 million copies in Japan and the Wii version over 4 million.  It's not that hard based on all the facts to believe NSMB 2 could currently have a few hundred thousand extra sales thanks to digital download that we don't know about yet.

MW3 sucks. Hopefully the lackluster sales will convince Activision not to bother with an MW4, and instead move the series back in time to some other era of history (like say the American Civil War).

Black Ops outselling Modern Warfare 3 probably has more to do with the fact Modern Warware 3 has sold more copies then Black Ops, and now people who bought Modern Warfare 3 are getting tired of it and buying Black Ops because they're new to the series and want to play the game that came out before the one they just bought.

You're talking bullshit out of your ass. MW3 has most certainly not sold more than Black Ops. It had more pre-orders, but that's it. Sales tapered off and it hasn't as well since that as Black Ops has at the same period in its life, plus Black Ops has a full year advantage over it.

MW3 has done poorly, and that's because the brains behind Infinity Ward left and Activision had to reconstruct the company with scabs who aren't as talented, and the game is just a copy and paste job of MW2 with only minor differences. When people pre-ordered the game they didn't know better, and that's why it broke Black Ops record, but as soon as word of mouth got out that's why sales dropped and that's why Black Ops is outselling it right now. Because people know Black Ops is a better quality game and done by Treyarch which is a better developer than Infinity Ward ever was, and that's even more true now that Infinity Ward has been disemboweled of its creative talent and replaced by talentless scabs.

Please show me proof that MW3 LTD has outsold Black Ops LTD. I want to see this.

Hell, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if MW2 LTD has MW3 beat.

People who didn't follow the IW founders (after they were fired for breach of contract) are not scabs. They actually like being employed and having a guaranteed job. And "scab" refers to people crossing a picket line, there was no strike involved.

No matter what you want to call them, they are replacements and they aren't as talented so the quality of the product wasn't as good as it would have been if the old talent hadn't left. That was my point.
