No Worldwide Launch

Buried at the bottom of an article about the DS shortage in Japan:

Iwata said that unlike Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo doesn't plan to release the Revolution globally at the same time.

"We don't think it's necessary to do the simultaneous worldwide launch simply because others are doing this," he said.

Maybe September in Japan and October/November for the US and 07 for Europe?

Well, it was never really expected, was it? The last I heard they were aiming for a 14-week period..

If this means there'll be enough units at each launch, then I'm for it.

A worldwide launch has no real purpose aside from sounding good in a press release.  MS tried it and they're wasting away their head start because of shortages.  I think it's better to have seperate launches all done right than one big universal goofed up launch.

Oh. I wonder if it'll be an eight month delay like the PAL GameCube launch. With less games at launch than America. That sure was fun!

if nintendo can make 100k ds a week for japan (lite and normal)
I reckon they could pump out tons of rev's, they could just under supply in usa, europe and aus... and make the most go to japan
with biweekly shipments to outside japan

Oh this is good news!  If Nintendo has the Japanese launch significantly earlier, then there's a better chance of import shops figuring out how to mod it before it hits the US - and I won't have to mail my Revolution off to someone after I buy it.  The only thing that could be better is if Nintendo announces a region-free system like the DS.

I'm hoping that since the Rev will likely see its easiest success in Japan, an early launch there will give the system the momentum to get a lot of Japanese third parties on board.

I thought "world wide launch" was Nintendo's idea first

and by "world wide launch" I thought they meant all territories(that matter, sorry AUS j/k) within a 3-4 month span.

That does make a lot of sense.

And it's just better overall if we actually receive the right number of units instead of mucking about in shortages until the PS3 arrives.

Whilst im not holding my breathe for an Australian release of the revolution until march of next year.  If Nintendo allows a 14 week window for Revolution's launch and get it out in japan early enough it is still possible for Nintendo to release the Revolution in all territories by the end of the year.

However I would like to see Nintendo to step their game up in Australia otherwise they may as well not launch the Revolution here at all.  Im pretty sure the majority of Australian's will either buy a PS3 or X360 unless Nintendo can market the Revolution here more aggressively.  Suprisingly im noticing that even the DS is getting shunned on retail store shelves with the games being moved to the back of stores and/or behind poles whilst the PSP's movies are at the front of the store.

Australia needs more love from Nintendo not neglect!

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Nintendo just duplicates the same release they did with the NintendoDS

I don't think this was ever Nintendo's plan.  Didn't someone in Nintendo mention releasing in all areas within a single quarter?  I imagine Nintendo will release in America and Japan before November and then later for the rest of the world (November-December.)

It really depends on when the games are done and ready.

If Nintendo gets only one or two games ready then I see them launching first in Japan (Around August or September)  then US around October November and Europe in December.

If more America friendly games are ready...or if Smash Brothers Melee and Metroid Prime 3 are ready early then I completely see Revolution being released in America first around August or September.

Looks like a worldwide launch is a possibility after all.  A Nintendo spokeperson states Iwata-san was taken out of context.

Here's the link on the story.

Yeah, it sounds like Europe is just trying to calm the masses since they are always last to get products.  I still think they won't get it until 2007 though.
