Just back from watching Side Effects. I don't even want to talk about it. People should just see this film as I did, with no context whatsoever. I will say, however, that I loved this film. If this does end up being Soderberg's last film (which I doubt) then it's a great one to go out on. Highly recommended.

What's putting me off watching it (apart from the CGI, which in the trailers at least looks terrible) is that I've never seen a film in which James Franco demonstrated any aptitude for acting.

Yes.

Pass.

Franco's a great actor when he's playing a stoner/loser. Haven't seen Milk, but it's why he played his role in Freaks and Geeks so very well.

So, I saw Oz. I feel kinda mixed about it. Overall, I think it was a good movie. I should note that I saw it in IMAX 3D. Good decision as Oz is beautiful. I think a lot of people went in expecting it to be something it wasn't. I think I made the same mistake but in another direction. Either way, it was a good movie. This was clearly not a good fit for James Franco, but he acted his ass off. The writing was good, in spite of Franco's believability. I wish more characters had a full arc.

In the end, I don't think it tried hard enough to be its own thing, and it would've better with some more mature themes. Still a colorful and fun experience that I didn't find lacking in charm. Definitely a good watch.

Did anyone else see Return to Oz as a kid? That film was awesome. Disturbing, but still awesome.

Yes, I think.
I read the Movie book with Pictures multiple times and that is disturbing in its own right.

Welcome to the Punch - A gorgeous movie that shows up London pretty well (second to Skyfall), but the ending just stops. Dead.

Unstoppable

This is schlock, nothing more, nothing less. The plot is beyond contrived as are the solutions. This is dumb beyond words. But is somewhat entertaining as you get to see a train demolish some stuff and have Denziel Washington ham it up.

As for Chris Pine, **** off and never return you hack. Denziel knew he was in a **** movie, but he still put in 100%.

John Carter - While not a great movie, I don't see the hate it gets. I can understand it maybe bombing because Disney advertised it the wrong way (not the first time a movie did poorly because the studio marketed it the wrong way). A shame that no sequels will be made because it lends itself to future movies.

Green Lantern - Another movie not as bad as what I heard. I do think they could have done a better job casting Hal Jordan than Ryan Reynolds, and I was a little disappointed that Sinestro did not turn evil in the movie, though they clearly set it up for that to happen in a sequel that will probably not be made.. The CGI suit was done pretty well, as was the CGI overall.

X-Men: First Class - Not as good as the first 3 X-Men movies, but still good. I disagree with some of the decisions they made, but I liked the cameo of Wolverine. I didnt care about some of the mutants though.

The Other End of the Line - Pretty standard rom-com that my lady friend wanted me to watch with her. Essentially a Indian woman working at a call center in Mumbai falls in love with a guy that owns his own advertising agency after they start talking because somebody was making false charges to his credit card (he thinks she is an American woman in San Francisco, not knowing the bank outsourced the job to India). Anybody who has seen a romantic comedy probably knows how the movie ends, but it's still touching and Shriya Saran is beautiful.

Other than the ending, X-Men: The Last Stand was really good. I don't think the bad ending should cause opinions of the entire movie to suffer.
