A special edition and themed Pro Controller, too.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 star Rex will journey across a variety of titans throughout the world of Alrest December 1, today's Nintendo Direct revealed.

Kingdoms built upon the titans are racing to find the legendary Blade, Aegis, and reach Elysium atop the World Tree. Six kingdoms were detailed in the Direct along with their tensions and goals. Rex lives on a small, one-bedroom titan named Azurda who can transform into the fuzzy little creature on Rex’s back.

Parties consist of three attacking “Drivers” and three supporting “Blades.” Arts and weapons are linked to the Blades in the party, and more Blades are unlocked through Core Crystals. About a dozen Blades appeared in the trailer, split into attackers, defenders and healers. Attacking with normal weapons builds Arts, and using Arts builds a special gauge. Specials have four levels of intensity.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 will launch with a special edition that comes with a soundtrack, a metal case, and a 220-page art book. A themed Pro Controller launches alongside the game.

This comes out on my birthday!  That would be kind of cool if I owned a Switch or planned on owning one before then.  But if I imagine some alternate world where I did this would be pretty exciting!

Really impressed by this trailer. Up to this point, XC2 was on my radar as something that might be worth checking it but now it is a game I definitely want to play. The Titan concept and various factions is pretty interesting. Not sure if that is similar to the original XC since I still have yet to play it but compared to XCX it helped give the game a notable difference in setting and concept. I'm just still not quite sold on the look of the game and can't help but think that XCX looks better or at least is the art style I prefer of the two.
Whoever said, "Cheaters never win" must've never met Khushrenada.

Seeing this new stuff has made me more interested in the game, but I still wont be playing it any time soon.

I always knew I was going to get this game but now I really can't wait to get this game!

The art style looks so cool! That cell shady cartoony look for the people but that realistic detail in the all the environments and creatures is awesome!

Good Lord, is Nintendo ever releasing games this year that will take ages to complete?! It might take James Jones only two weeks, but for us mortals, some of these games will take months to fully explore, espcially if you like to take your time.

The game world looks great. So much variety! I was somewhat turned off by the art-style at E3, but I'm starting to like it after this extended look. The Xenoblade games keep getting bigger and bigger. You begin to wonder what the limits will be at some point. Just thinking about all the hard work it took to create the huge amount of art makes me tired!

When they were about to announce the release date, I was crossing my fingers that Xenoblade 2 would make 2017. I could hear all the doubters saying "No way!" all at once! :)

I was definitely one of the doubters. I have Xenoblade Chronicles 2 pre-ordered. I have a lot to play this year.

I admit I was a doubter as well, at least at the start of the year. But it did seem like development of the game was going smoothly, so I'm not too surprised it's still set for 2017. It's certainly making it more tempting to get a Switch this year as opposed to next.
