It seems Tales of Symphonia 2 sold quite a bit more than that.

If I were Namco, I'd be a bit disappointed in the 360 game's performance.  Especially considering the increased dev-cost.

The hidden story is that Tales of Symphonia GC is the best selling Tales game of all time, and the only one to sell a million worldwide.

Namco's response to this was to ignore that fanbase (despite tie ratios) and make PS2 Tales games that sold incrementally more in Japan and much much worse in America.

Hopefully Namco remembers this lesson and starts cranking out Wii Tales games, but I doubt it since business sense went out the window the second this generation started.

You do know that Namco announced that the next tales game is going to be for Wii right?

Third party promises leave a lot to be desired this generation.

Third parties are still apparently in this mode where all they have to do is promise Wii owners a game and that lets them off the hook as far as the majority is concerned.  Until screens of the game exists and/or the game is released, I remain unimpressed.

Not to go off on a third party rant here, but I will remain unimpressed by most third party support until I see major shifts toward the Wii and it being at the expense of PS3 and 360 projects.  The current strategy of "No Console Left Behind" is a failing one.  Most third parties are losing a lot of money, and the extremely successful ones are the ones with strong Wii support or a cavalcade of DS games.  I'm not saying this as a fanboy, or maybe I am but I'm also saying it as a fan of certain third parties who have lost their way and started making more expensive games for less people and getting less sales.  Third parties had their greatest sales and most influence when they focused on one platform mainly and maybe dabble in another occasionally.  Those that spread themselves too thin are the ones suffering, and they should simply back the market leader like they have been doing for decades.  No excuses.  No demographics.  No complaints.

This attempt at "equal support" is similar to the "separate but equal" laws during Southern Segregation.  Whites and Blacks had their own public bathrooms, yes.  But the White bathrooms were maintained and polished, while the Black bathrooms were infested, filthy,a nd of low quality.  Any attempt to complain about conditions was met with "you should be lucky you have bathrooms at all."  To say that they SHOULD be happy is similar to saying Wii owners, fans, and backers should be happy with the shoestring support they have been getting is laughable to logicians and dangerous to investors.

Somebody's gonna have to get cut off and the smart money's pointing in the direction of uber-HD.  The Wii userbase just keeps growing and growing, and every time a third party executive or PR person jawbones and hem-haws about demographics and recombinant entertainment metrics and dynamic exclusionary videogame ecosystems, they look stupider and stupider when NPD and Media Create come in with Wii way out in front and everybody else breathing fumes.

It's time for survival, and they can no longer afford HD pipe dreams nor to be continually "surprised" by the Wii's performance after 2 years.

I wonder what will happen once the Wii sells more than the other two combined worldwide?  Will the goalposts for Wii's success be moved again?

Well Deg there will always be hardheaded companies like Epic that won't ever do a Wii game because the president of the company is a complete narrow minded dick(just look up why Mike Capps didn't allow People Can Fly(a Epic subsidiary) to make a Wii version of their EA game). I personally think that the Wii 3rd party situation is fine Japanese 3rd parties (companies and developers) are putting in the most thought and effort into Wii games and Wii support even the niche companies like Marvelous, Atlus, Xseed, AQI. Some big Western companies give very nice support for the Wii but unfortunately they mar it equally with the traditional glut of crap.

Well Namco hasn't been very bright one in the last few years, so it could take a while.  But I'd imagine that sometime next year they'll finally give in.  By 2009, the Wii will have a bigger userbase then the PS3 and 360, COMBINED.  When this happens, Namco like most other third parties will have to finally take the Wii seriously, because it's where all the money is at.

Well hey Namco and Bandai combined into one, Activision swallowed up a lot of companies killed of Sierra and then molded all the Sierra owned companies to their likings. EA bought some companies and now EA turned from a bad guy into a good guy. Nature does some weird magic.

Rhythm Tengoku Gold continues to sell well.Dragon Quest V is doing well. Wii fit and Mario Kart continues to sell.Wario land is doing OK.I am kinda surprised that Fatal frame is retaining that spot.

Looks like I was right, the good word of mouth has given Wario Land Shake some great legs.  It's guarantied to go over 100,000 which is great for a game everyone considered a bomb when it only opened with 25,000 it's first week.  Then when you realize it'll do much better in America and Europe like all traditional Wii games do, Wario Land Shake should have some good lifetime sales overall.
