It's stuck, and it shows the non-casual market is shrinking and insignificant compared to the real game market.

Amazing to see games like Wii Fit and Play past the 20 million mark. Mario Kart is almost there as well. That has to be the most succesful Mario Kart yet right?

Yes, but it's close. Mario Kart DS (which is still selling well) is at 16.09 million. The next Mario Kart game though is Super Mario Kart at 8 million. Mario kart Wii is the best selling racing game of all-time.

Isn't Mario Kart Wii the best-selling Mario game that isn't a pack-in? I think the only games that have higher sales numbers are Super Mario Brothers and Super Mario World, both of which were packaged in system bundles.

Well, it could certainly also be in part due to flaws in the game.  While I think MG is lots of fun, it's hardly perfect -- the individual levels are often wonderful, but eventually start to seem a bit samey (you replay the same environments multiple times after all), and the hub is boring; I often found myself feeling not very compelled to seek out the next level ...

It's probably the best 3D Mario in that respect and it's still problematic...

Possibly. Super Mario World was bundled at first but later sold separately.

As for Super Mario Sunshine, it only did about 5.85 million worldwide. So it's possible that it sold less than 1 million in Japan/

DS Best selling console ever in the UK

Nintendo handheld sails past 10 million mark – robbing PS2 of 'biggest ever console' title

Nintendo DS has become the biggest-selling games hardware in UK chart history, surpassing 10 million units sold, MCV can reveal.

The device hit the milestone in week 47 of this year according to GfK-ChartTrack data, taking it past the record held by Sony’s PS2.

UK unit sales of PS2 stand at 10.02 million to date, whilst DS has already hit 10.05 million – with a bountiful Christmas period yet to finish.

DS has been on the UK market for just four years, eight months, having launched in March 2005. PlayStation 2 launched nine years ago in November 2000.

Nintendo DS has sold at a rate of over 5,700 consoles per day in the UK, where almost one in six people own one of the handhelds.

MCV revealed last week that Nintendo Wii had hit six million UK unit sales – becoming the fastest-selling home console in UK history.

The DS outsold all 3 of Sony's systems COMBINED. I know this has happened before, but it still amazes me.

Monster numbers for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, but in the long-run it will be outsold by New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which got great numbers).

No surprise for Mario Kart Wii, the DS one did the same thing (it managed to even be one of the top 10 selling games of 2008, despite being released in 2005).

Well New Super Mario Bros Wii is already off to a great start with close to 1.4 million.  Mario Galaxy's opening November numbers back in 2007 were 1.1 million and then for December it sold 1.4 million.

Since NSMBW is already off to a better start, it'll be interesting to see the legs that this will have.
