Nintendo Gaming / RE:Mario Kart Discussion (TALK ABOUT MARIO KART HERE)
« on: August 22, 2003, 06:37:56 AM »
8 Players max can play on 2-8 TVs over lan (A seperate GCN and Copy of MKDD is required).

So you can play 8 players on 2 tvs and all are 4-way split screen.

Or 8 players on 8 tvs all full screen.

Or anything in between.

8 players = 16 characters.

I like the news about a bonus disk, but what will it be. Anything will be nice since I am buying the game nomatter what. Maybe a emulation of Super Mario 64

Probably will just be a demo disk, but that is still cool.

I cant wait any longer for this game, it looks great.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:N5 "delayed"
« on: August 20, 2003, 06:45:11 AM »
Nintendo needs to release at the same time as Sony or a little before. There is no point in releasing a year a head. If they have more time then that also means they can have more games ready at launch. I think that a head to head launch with supperior launch titles is better than a year head start with no good games.

Plus the Cube is still a great system. More time before N5 also means more great titles on the GCN.

Dont you also start with the color camera in the 2nd quest?

Yes

Also the Nintendo Gallery stays open and you keep any statues you already made.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:decided to buy a GC what am I missing
« on: August 15, 2003, 10:17:41 AM »
Super Smash Bros. Melee - Excellent game, great for multiplayer. Not as fun solo. If you have at least one other person to play with get it. I saw it for $20 at best buy ($30-$10 off all players choice games) so you cant go wrong there.

Metroid Prime - Incredible game. My favorite on the GCN. Wonderful graphics, wonderful game play, and excellent re-playability. I played through it on normal and hard mode and it is very fun and challenging. You can get this one free with the GCN, or look for them on eBay new at $25.

Resident Evil
Resident Evil Zero - I havnt played these, so Im not sure. I wouldnt recommend getting both unless you have already played them and like them.

Super Mario Sunshine - This game was fun, and I definately recommend picking one up. Not much re-playability since you play each area like 8 times you get you fill the first time through imo. Nothing really new or revolutionary in this one from Super MArio 64.

Animal Crossing (your wife would like) - I tried this game for a while and couldnt get into it. If you like Sims then you might like it.

StarFox Adventures - I didnt really enjoy this game, its ok, but there is no challenge. Its also not really a Star Fox game, they just added those characters as an afterthought

WWE Wrestlmania X8 - If you like wrestling games... I wouldnt expect too much.

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker - Number 2 on my top games list for GCN. Wonderful game, the graphics fit perfectly. Good replayability. I played through it twice already. A must have for any GCN owner. Keep you eye out for the Ocarina of Time / Master quest disk. I saw them at Wal-Mart for free with the Wind Waker purchase, so you might get lucky.

Eternal Darkness

Ikaruga - This one looks fun, but it is still $40 for a 2d shooter. There are better uses for my money.

Luigis Mansion - Too short. Dont buy it, just give it a rent and play through it.

Skies of Arcadia Legends - I have heard good things, but this game is hard to find and is still $50 for a 2+ year old Dream Cast port. If you like RPGs go for it, but there are new RPGs on the horizon for GCN.

Other Games

Pikmin - Very fun game, very different. $20 at Best Buy with the $10 off players choice deal. It was short, but does have some re-playability.

Mario Party 4 - Fun game for multi player. Mario Party 5 is coming out soon so you might want to hold off.

And of course there are these games coming out by the end of the year.

Mario Kart Double Dash
F-Zero GX
Soul Calibur II
Pikmin II
Mario Party 5
Pokemon Colliseum

I also recommend getting the G3 Wireless controller made by Pelican. Wavebird is ok, but no rumble.

They dont dissapear unless you collect them, so if they are gone you have them. On the menu screen one of the categories is artifacts, it will show which ones you have and show the clues for the ones you need.

To get the clues for the ones you need go to the area where the chozo statues are. Go back to your ship and it is facing in the direction of the door you want.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Official Mario Party 5 Topic
« on: August 09, 2003, 07:29:40 PM »
I really dont think another Mario Party game was necessary for the GCN. I have MP4 and it is fine. MP5 will be better no doubt, but with all the other titles coming out I will probably pass on it for $50.

I really think that they will introduce some info on their gba-sp successor. The psp is getting a lot of hype, and they need to put something out there to let people know that they have something better in mind.

Yeah I have 2 fountains infront of my cabana. I also decorated some peoples houses at Windfall with flowers too, 'cause I'm such a nice guy.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:What is this all about?
« on: August 09, 2003, 09:21:36 AM »
Nintendo has too much inventory of Gamecubes already. It is not likely that they can sell them all before the next console is released, so they stopped making them. If they need more they can always make more, but for now they have enough.

They're going to announce the limited edition yellow gamecube and pink poca dot gbasp.

Seriously I dont understand why whenever anything vague is said about something new people start going crazy with what it is. time and time again it turns out to be something minor, since our expectations are so high.

Just wait and find out.

I still want them to partner with Nintendo to make an exclusive Sonic game for the cube. Not a port, and not a multiplatform game.

Sega does make some really good games, its nice to see them making money so they will be able to continue releasing games.

What could you do with Linux on the cube if it did work? Without a hard drive you wouldnt be able to add any software anyways.

General Gaming / RE:VGA cable issue.
« on: August 07, 2003, 07:56:44 AM »
Does it only do this with games? Does it work fine with another signal (satalite/cable other game system etc.) It could just be the monitor is bad, so try to eliminate that as a problem first.

If it is only a problem with this system then the cables are likely bad. Were the cables new or used?

Also if you know anyone else that has the same game system try your cables on their system, or try their cables on yours.

IGN.com has some info up. Not much, but Namco is the developer for DK on GCN

« on: August 06, 2003, 10:24:19 AM »
If the game was ready it would be released. Its not like Nintendo sits on finished products, they are still working on it. Hopefully it will be good, but so far there has been no info.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:"N5" Controller.
« on: August 06, 2003, 08:28:15 AM »
Put the Z button next to the x and y buttons in an arch formation above the A and B.
Add two trigger buttons under the grips like on DC or XBox.

For the wireless verion make it have rumble features and be rechargable.

I really like the GCN controller, it is may favorite out of every other system ever. I just dont like Z, it is a pain in the ass to use.

General Gaming / RE:Piracy
« on: August 05, 2003, 06:27:07 PM »
Piracy does hurt businesses, but not newarly as much as they say. On KaZaA there are millions of people sharing billions of files, and the music industry is still making money. The truth is, the music industry got caught with their pants down. MP3s came around and all of a sudden you could take a wav file and reduce it by 90% and keep the quality. Sharing over the net is a breeze even with dial up. And what has the music industry done to stop this? They sued the crap out of Napster and put them out of business and file sharing didnt die, it just adapted. Target the companies that run servers that share files, fine we just wont use servers we'll just connect to other PCs. The music industry could have worked with Napster to make what they were doing legal and profitable, but they didnt.

Music Cds cost like $18 for a movie soundtrack, and the DVD for the movie is $15, whats wrong with that picture?

Piracy will always be a problem. It is up to the developer to take whatever measure they can to make it sooo dificult to copy that most people will not.

Nintendo has a lot of piracy going on with Gameboy / GBA games being copied. And that system is making them all their money. Pokemon Ruby/Saphire has probably sold close to 10 million copies worldwide by now.

Does Piracy hurt? yes, but not as bad as these multibillion dollar companies want us to believe. Oh no, M$ only made 20 billion last year, without piracy they could have made 30 billion, boo hoo.

Just for the record I do not pirate comsole games. PC games/software sure and music CDs, sure. DVDs are too much hassle for me, but I will download movies before they come out occasionally. Like I got X2 and MAtrix Reloaded, but I will buy those DVDs when they come out.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:WW of OoT style graphics??
« on: August 05, 2003, 04:34:07 PM »
It didnt banish Hyrule forever it washed it away. Everything is still there, just broken and on the bottom of the ocean. Eventually the statue will wash up on shore or something and Link will have to find the Triforce and get the sword again. Or something like that. Its just my opinion, but if Nintendo wanted to shoe Ganon die, his stone body would have shattered into a million pieces.

I dont think that Ganon will be back in the sequel, but will return on a futre game for the next system.

"Wind Waker, you are always in the water. It gets SOO BORING!"

The whole theme of the game is sailing on the ocean.
Next you will say the game is so redundant because in every Zelda game you have to get the Master Sword and the Triforce over and over again (with some exceptions).

"They also closed the pages of Ganondorf and Hyrule for good!"

Ganondorf's body didnt explode at the end, it just turned him to stone. He can come back when someone removes the Master Sword.

Nintendo Gaming / Official Pre-order bonus material for GCN Games
« on: August 05, 2003, 10:28:43 AM »
Ok, so I see now that there are a few pre-order deals out there for Gamecube games, and I figured it would be nice to have an official thread to list all of these as they come in. I'll list the few that I know of, please add more as the information surfaces.

Free Ocarina of Time (N64 emulated game) with pre-order of Zelda Wind Waker. If you didnt get this one when it was offered you are probably still kicking yourself. If you need help kicking yourself let me know and I will come over to your house and kick you too.

Free bonus disk with pre-order of Rebel Strike. You get the 1982 arcade Star Wars game plus some other bonuses. Link

Free art book with pre-order of Soul Calibur II. Link

If there are anymore offers out there please post them here.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:P.N. 03 Bonus Disc?
« on: August 05, 2003, 10:20:57 AM »
You get a Demo of PN03 for preordering it? That doesnt make any sense. I assume there would be more on the disk, but who knows. I do like how companies are starting to give away free demo/bonus material when you preorder. I mean it may cost them a little more, but they are selling the game at full price which makes them more money in the long run.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:April-June quarter sales report is out
« on: August 05, 2003, 08:43:11 AM »
The only genre they are hurting in is RPGs. Skies may be good, I havnt played it since I cant find it for sale anywhere), but it is just a DC port. They do have some good RPGs coming out in the near future, so that is good news.

Nintendo just gets a bad rap. I mean if you go to BestBuy you can see GTA or whatever, and XBox has Halo and some others, then go to the Nintendo section and they have like 10-15 different games and three of those are disney "Mickey Mouse somthing", and "Donald Duck quack attack, or whatever it is called" and you think Kiddie system. Hell I see those games and I think kiddie system, and I know better, what should people who dont know anything think.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:WW of OoT style graphics??
« on: August 05, 2003, 06:01:47 AM »
When I saw the first screenshots for WW I was put off. I preordered it istandly just for the OoT. I figured if I desided not to get the game, OoT for $15 would still be a good deal. Then I played the game at ToysRUs and I was fighting the Dragon Roost boss. I was getting pissed off because I couldnt hit him with my Grappling Hook. I kept aiming at his eye and he would blink just in time. I gave up and left. Later on I played it again at BestBuy and I was just starting in the Dragon Roost temple. I killed the first couble of (thin Moblins, I forget their names) and I had to light a couple torches. When I picked up the stick and lit it, and saw how the light from the flame followed me around as I moved the stick, I instantly fell in love with the game. I moved on and saw how Link could stridle a wall and peek around the corner and the animation was perfect. I knew then that I had to have this game.

Although graphics are a great first impression, thats all they are. Gameplay is what will keep bring you back. And the bottom line is that WW is absolutely fun to play. I just finished it a second time in my PJs and completed the Nintendo Gallery (I was sooo worried when I fought Puppet Gannon 'cause I needed his pic and you cant leave the area after fighting him without saving. Fortunately at least one of the three pics I took was good).

This game was sooo good infact that the sequel is a definate purchase for me nomatter what any previews or reviews say about it. I'm already sold.

For GCN there is only one game that I like better than WW and that is MP just because it was more difficult.
