Consider these quotes:
Instead of going for the highest possible performance, which does not contribute to software development, our idea was to create a developer-friendly next generation TV game machine that maintained above-standard capabilities.
Additionally, in response to the demand for new types of entertainment from users in the game trade, the scale of games became larger, and frequently special adjustments to software had to be made. This came back to haunt the developers in the form of development costs and it would not be an exaggeration to say that it made software development more challenging.
This type of problem, if not solved, could have a dramatic effect on the succeess[sic] of the game business.
We have been creating a world in which the player can enjoy the feeling of actually touching the "world" created by the software.
Let's play a game: what console are these quotes referring to?
if you guessed gamecube you would not be incorrect! That last one is especially cool =o I dont have the energy to post any useful or insightful commentary besides "this has been a long time coming" and "there are obviously clues all around us as to what the successor to the Wii will be since Nintendo is a tricky company that likes leave hints lying about." Just thought it was interesting. I didnt follow games as closely back then as I do now so I had no idea Ninty has been saying this for so many years.
This all comes from here, btw:
