Seven More Wii Games From Ubisoft
« on: October 24, 2006, 09:58:18 PM »
And one of them is a brand new game that we haven't heard of yet.

Ubisoft released their Q1/Q2 sales report for their 06/07 fiscal year, and things are looking good for the French company.  Game sales during the 6 month period were up 13%, and overall the figures exceeded expectations by 25%.

The press release containing all of that financial mumbo-jumbo also has word on the publisher's plans for the rest of the year.  Out of that, the biggest news of interest to Nintendo fans is that Ubisoft will release seven more Wii games before the end of March.  Including the seven they'll have available at the system's launch, Ubi will have released 14 games within the first 18 weeks of the Wii's lifespan.  Not bad.

But wait, there's more.  One of the seven upcoming games will be a never-before seen Wii property, or as it said in the release, a "non-announced new brand."  If the game is to be released in the near future, one must assume that Ubisoft has been working on it for a while.

What is this mystery new game?  When will they reveal it?  When will they release it?  When we find out, PGC will be one of the first to report it to you!

Holy Frick.  Capcom 5?  More like Ubisoft 14.  Dang.  This bodes very well for the Wii. Very well indeed.

Wow, this totally reminds me of the year Ubi released BG&E and Sands of Time in the same year and everyone loved them.

...and then they released Warrior Within the next year. :-(  Oh well, better luck this time!

Given that Ubi is one of my favorite developers, this is awesome news. Wii is so totally gonna own this generation.

It's funny: I'll be buying two Ubi games and an Activision game at launch, no Nintendo games...

And they say 3rd parties are Nintendo's weakness...

That will be the day.  Assasins creed is supose to be a high power game and BG&E sold so badly who would buy it but the fans?

But to shead some light on that Ubisoft has a thing of "depowering" a game onto a weaker system (splinter cell 3) and also Baiten Kaitos supposedly sold badly yet they came out with a sequal.

So my point is anything is possible, but I'm pritty shure it'll be mostly ports or older games.

Yeah, I expect the PS2 to stay alive through 2007 since the PS3 really isn't quite ready to "assume the Playstation Throne"

That means Wii cross platform games will be using the same engine that the PS2 version of the game will use.

No Zelda: TP or Excite truck Smash? Anyway this is great news even if the majority of them will probaly be ports, this is solid 3rd party support from Ubi and just think what it will be like if Red Steel sells great?

A friend will be picking up Zelda and Excite Truck was edged out by Rayman when I discovered ET is only two player.

I'll be dropping the big $180 on all 3 extra 'motes n' 'chucks so it makes sense that every game I own will be four player to get the most from the investment.

If not for wanting to conserve cash, yes, I'd be buying Zelda.

Since all my friends are getting a Wii day one, I'll be holding out on getting more controllers. I'll get one when the new colors are released. I want my main Wii-Mote to be blue baby!

Off-topic: You have to be a certain kind of gamer to buy only multiplayer games at a system launch, especially when excellent single player adventure games are available. It of course has everything to do with the amount of people you can play multiplayer with, but even if I did have a ton of hardcore gamer friends I still think I'd buy Zelda over ANY other game at launch.

Same, since Excite Truck was delayed here i'm not getting any first party games at launch. Replace one Activision game with Monkey Ball and that's what i'll be getting. Thankfully there's still Wii Sports for the 'Nintendo touch'.

Like I said, a friend will be buying it so he and I fully intend to swap Redsteel and Zelda after we're done with our respective games.

Not buying Zelda stems from being on a budget, not not wanting to buy it for some weird reason.

As for Excite Truck, I might still pick it up post launch, but that depends on reviews and such.

lol.
The only game I have pre-ordered is RRR.  So I'll have Wii Sports and RRR and no one to play them with.  Though I'm going to rent TP from Gamefly and just keep it.

Here is what I have preordered:

Rayman
Zelda: TP
Red Steel
Elebits

Probaly the first time ever for me to get more 3rd party games than first party ones for a Nintendo system.

Yes, but he could have meant that he'd get the GC one later on, meaning that he does NOT have any 1st party Wii titles preordered but he still has Zelda coming.

My first Wii title will be Twilight Princess...

Everyone happy now?

In all seriousness, my top launch picks are Zelda, Rayman Raving Rabbids, Super monkey ball and Excite Truck. I didn't mention Red Steel because I want to see how it performs around here as well as a best friend's opinion on it.

This is so weird... Does Ubi really buy into the belief that the Wii will launch them into a space where they can become a competitor to EA?

Heck, do they even hardbor the illusion that they can outmaneuver the multiple-development-house, deep-pocketed EA for any consistent period of time?

They may be thinking that if they manage to sink the "next-gen" consoles EA will be wasting a lot of money on making graphically next-gen games that can't sell because of the small userbase, losing a lot of money and finally facing Ubisoft on the Wii where gameplay innovation sells more than graphics all the while Ubi is making and selling games at a fraction of the cost EA pays for each game (though using less celebrities and other licensed stuff cuts the costs a lot, as well).
