Mafia LXVIII: Animal Kingdom. Day 1 - Call of the Wild.
« on: July 25, 2016, 04:33:05 AM »

Except from The Sunfish Sun-Times:

Animal Kingdom Election in Full Monkey Swing!

With tensions in the Animal Kingdom growing, attention turned towards the two current candidates and their plans to help make the Animal Kingdom safe again. Insanolord the Jackass (aka Mule) has pledged to increase spending on early danger detection with the Eagle Airforce to get more help in spotting trouble sooner. He also met with Police Chief Rin Tin Tin to enact a new bill with the goal of launching a taskforce directed at cracking down on the rumoured Shere Khan Mafia and their corrupted grip of power. The Pawtriot Act bill has been rat-ified to go into effect starting today.

Meanwhile, Khushrenada the Cat has stated his intention to build a wall around the Animal Kingdom to help keep out the most dangerous animal of all, Man! "Man poses the greatest threat to us all and by shutting him out of the Animal Kingdom we will all be protected. Man is the true enemy and my opponent seeks to blind us from that fact by his attempt to stir up distrust with another in this quixotic crusade against a supposed Animal Mafia. Trust me. I'm the only one who has your best interests at heart," stated Khushrenada to stadium of snakes today. When asked what they thought of the speech, one snake said, "Beats me. Snakes don't have ears. But I did like his vibrations. That cat gives off some killer vibes."

With much displeasure from the two candidates currently running, many wonder whether there may yet be a surprise dark horse candidate to enter the election but so far the only word from the Black Beauty stables is nay. Yeah, I just wrote that. It's late and I don't care anymore about the quality of my writing! As always, your trusty reporter Wendy the Weasel will keep snooping around for all the latest happenings in the Animal Kingdom to report to you first.

And now an ad brought to you by the Citizens for Khushrenada the Cat!

Khushrenada the Cat! He makes the hard decisions. This month, elect the Cat who's purrfect for you and I. Vote Khushrenada!

Announcements:

As mentioned, days will be handled a bit differently this game. The day will last until Wednesday Midnight EST unless a majority vote is reached before then. With 16 players, a majority vote today would require 9 votes. However, if everyone has voted and there is one player who has the majority of votes and no one has changed their vote for two hours, than the day will end and that player in the lead is voted out even if they hadn't reached 9. A player with nine votes simply means we don't have to wait for any players who haven't voted to show up since they can do nothing at that point to overrule the majority.

If you have questions on this, please ask I'll be happy to explain them.

Do check out the Players List thread so that you know who's in and what roles are out there.

All townies were sent a message stating "You are a Townie." I tell you this to spare you the time of trying to compare notes with one another as those who did not get townie roles now know how to fake a pm townie message from me.

Otherwise, feel free to pick an animal and make whatever kind of animal comments you like.

My main issue with this game is that Khush picked a theme that isn't very conducive to hijacking and turning into another NewsRadio themed game.

As townies it's in our best interest to drag the days out as much as we can in order to see what kind of patterns begin to develop. The Mafia will want to end the days as quickly as possible so they can get as many kills as possible before we know what hit them.

However an attempt to drag out the days will give the Mafia more chances to try and deceive us. We can't let that happen either. Beclaws of this we must remain vigilant.

Having not played a Mafia game since 2009, it's exciting to sign on and find a few votes headed my way already. Glad to see I'm not completely forgotten, and it's good to be back!

First round votes are always a bit of a shot in the dark. It's so easy for me to accidentally kill off an important townie than actually hit one of the mafia. Really, all it takes is just for a name or two to get thrown around to find your first victim. I get why I have a few votes, as I'm bit of an unknown player, so there's the wildcard element.

It's tempting to vote Dasmos, just as there's a few votes slotted against me already. I don't begrudge him for his vote, as I might have to vote for him just as a method of survival, but I hope it doesn't have to come to that.

I'll probably wait until tonight to make my vote, as I'll have more information to work with then. But remember, this honey badger does care, and he cares for this town.

Current Vote Tally in alphabetical order and number of votes

TheNorthSea - 3
Stratos - 3
Dasmos - 2
Khushrenada - 1 (Doesn't actually count. This isn't a twist game and the host isn't a suspect.)
Nickmitch - 1

There are 11 hours left until Day 1 is over and since we aren't close to a 9 vote majority, we're probably going all the way on the Day vote time limit.

I've been asked via PM what happens in a tie.

It's very simple. No one will be voted out. In the past, I've had extra time for tiebreakers but with around 48 hours to choose a majority vote, if you can't reach it by then, I doubt 30 more minutes is going to solve anything.

Second, there is the townie role of Babe the Pig which can solve ties or possibly create them. The point is, there is an ability already in the game that has influence on voting. Of course, it could end up removed from the game over time if the player is eliminated but for now there is something that can act in cases of ties as a final decision of whether the vote stays jammed up or solved. This role can change anyone's vote even if the person they change hasn't voted that day.

Finally, I don't have a problem with nobody being voted out in the day. If players want to jam up the vote and take their chances with the night actions, I feel that's a valid strategy and I suppose if players wanted to vote abstain and that was the majority vote, then we could always end the day early that way instead of waiting for a majority vote against a player. As a player, it's not an option I'd choose but I'm just hosting this game and I recognize that other players see things differently than I do so I'm not going to dictate everyone play as I would and deny the option.

So let it be written. So let it be done.

If a tie is going to mean nobody dies, we may want to consider intentionally doing that today. We're way more likely to knock out a townie than a mafia member if we're voting based on nothing and just randomly bandwagoning somebody. Holding out a day gives time for people to use their roles and more information to come out.

Heads up. Going to be out for awhile so the day thread will probably be open until 12:45 EST. Night actions will have a 12 hour limit this game so no rush on those either. That said, if everyone who is eligible has submitted a night action and there is no change to those actions for an hour then I'll start a new day before the 12 hour limit is up.

Final tally:

Dasmos - 6 votes
TheNorthSea - 4 votes
Khushrenada - 1 vote
nickmitch - 1 vote
TheNorthSea - 1 vote
TOPHATANT123 - 1 vote
Stratos - 1 vote

Babe the pig changed stevey's non-vote to a vote for TheNorthSea in case anyone is wondering how I got my figures. That means nearly every player voted. That's a pretty good voting turnout in any game. There were so many votes, even I had one cast against me and I'm not even playing! Crazy.

But alas, poor Dasmos. You cruel, fickle mob! You have taken out one of the titans of Mafia games on Day 1 and on his 50th game anniversary even! May you find a golden peace in death that you were unable to find in life.
