A whole new mess of games came out last week and they populated the charts with fresh titles. At the top is Gundam Breaker, an action game based on the Gundam model kits where mixing and matching different parts is encouraged. The Vita version of Toukiden takes the 2nd spot with its PSP version taking the 4th. Sandwiched between them is Etrian Odyssey Untold: The Millennium Girl for the 3DS, a remake of the first Etrian Odyssey game. Filling out the new titles in the top 10 is the latest Atelier game, a new 3DS Digimon game, and the licensed game based on Date A Live.

Pretty amazing that they had a 32.5% increase in hardware sales (though still sad that it only means ~7k consoles) while having zero games in the top 20.

Well last week Nintendo started running commercials for Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi, which both come out on July 13th over there.  That's probably what caused that bump.

Hopefully this means when the games are released on the 13th it finally give the Wii U some good sales for once if the commercials alone could slowly bump sales 2 weeks before release.

Wii U's hardware sales are so pathetic, that you could write that uptick in weekly sales off to a statistical anomaly. I believe the change is within the "margin of error" ;) :P

I haven't been in this thread for ever, but my gawd, I can't believe the Wii U still hasn't broken 1M in sales yet. Nintendo needs to release some damn games already.... and drop the price too.

Yep no one cares for it. Not Gamers, not Third parties, retailers, or even Nintendo.

The blame has to be put squarely on Iwata for being the president, and Miyamoto who despite announcing having a reduced role in the company is still overseeing multiple projects. I also blame the comapny having probably the least diverse console portfolio at E3 which is crazy when you think about it.

Also I just started working at a Meijer that opens in two weeks and the gaming side is very telling of how the retail space views nintendo. The displays break down to this.

Sony- Two deisplays full of Playstation 3 and a few Vita Games. Six Vita systems and about four PS3 models.

Microsoft- Two displays full of Xbox 360 games and oddly enough a few Xbox Games like Halo 2. About three kinects and a few 360 S units,

3DS- One case full of mostly 3DS games and a few DS Games with the 3DS and DS game groups into two places. A few 3DS sku's on the bottom.

Wii U- Nothing but Wii Games with Wii U game scattered about in between them. Two Wii U deluxe systems and four Wii mini models.

I might've taken stats in my sophomore year of university, but I remember that a margin of error of 10-15% means you done goofed.

The actual explanation is that they are actually advertising the bloody thing ahead of the quadruple-header of Pikmin 3, retail New Super Luigi U, the White Deluxe and Nintendoland Wiimote bundle this weekend (keeping in mind Nintendoland doesn't come with JP Deluxes).

Pikmin 3 and New Super Luigi U are both being released on Saturday which will cause sales to finally increase since the system hasn't had any games from Nintendo since Game and Wario at the end of March.  Some of you really need to do some research before posting stupid **** like this.

Y so defensive?

the research is done. the numbers are in this thread. The Wii U is failing hard.
Solid concept. mediocre execution. piss poor post launch handling.
I hardly think a downloadable expansion and an strategic/action garden sim :P is really gonna turn the tides for Nintendo in Japan, and much less so everywhere else, especially with the PS4 on the horizon.

I'm not saying the Wii U is dead.... but somebody keep the paddles on stand-by. This is gonna be a rough gen for us Nintendo enthusiast.

Wii U's first big title of 2013 comes out in Japan and it does... okay numbers for a system that needs far more than that? The Wii U should limp over the one million mark some time in the next few weeks. Level 5's Yokai Watch for the 3DS comes in 2nd with 53.6k and New Super Luigi U places in 5th with 24.8k.

Blast. I really expected Pikmin 3 to pull in at least 150k in its first week. :/

I hope it has legs.

Did Pikmin only have 2 days in the charts? That's an ok boost for Japan with Pikmin pushing things,  expected about that much. What comes out for them next month?

I'm expecting sales to keep up around 10 - 15k for the next few weeks. Not much but its something.

I'd say those Pikmin first week sales are pretty good considering it's a sequel to a game that is over 9 years old on a currently overpriced system.  The original Pikmin also had good legs so Pikmin 3 with good word of mouth might be able to repeat that.  Pikmin 1 sold 101k its first week and then went on to eventually sell over 500k total in Japan.  Pikmin 3 selling 92k it's first week isn't that much worse so it'll be interesting to see if they can repeat it.

The main thing to watch is where Wii U hardware sales stay.  Going from 8k to 22k is still a pretty decent increase for sales.  Pikmin's legs will literally determine if the Wii U sales stay closer to 20k now or fall below 10k again in the next month before The Wonderful 101 is released on August 24th.

You expected 15% of the entire Wii U install base to buy the game in 2 days?

a few weeks after pikmin 3 comes out and any sales it generates die down we will see the price drop.

I crossed paths with Bill Trenon today. We had a little conversation and I'm pretty sure I made him genuinely burst out into laughter.

Sorry gotta edit it. I feel like I shouldn't have said that. For his sake.
