If this is true can people please stop bringing up MadWorld as a reason that people don't buy mature games on the Wii now.

This is a game by the same developer and is on the HD systems.  From what I hear it had a huge advertising budget as well.  Not to mention it had the incredible advantage of not being a black and white game and had a sexy protagonist to go after the young male audience they are gunning for.

Yes, but I'm assuming this game will fall off the radar after a month or so like most traditional games do.

And by 'reportedly' I mean VGChartz, though I vaguely recall this thread confirming those numbers a while back.

MadWorld had a significant price drop within a couple months after release.  Although I have nothing but anecdotal evidence I'm willing to bet the majority of its sales were at price points below $30.

I don't expect Bayonetta to stay full price for long--you can already get it for $50 on Amazon--and once it drops to $20 or $30 a lot of people will pick it up.

Yeah, I grabbed Madworld off Amazon for $19 in december, and last I checked it had falled to a mere $12.99.  I'm sure the sales are great at this price, but really, how much money is the company making with the price being that low? Selling 100k copies of games at $12 really isn't the same as selling 100k copies of games at $49 a pop. I mean, it looks great from a sales figures perspective, but quantity isn't everything.

But if enough people buy the game the 1st time around, even at discounted prices, then that is that many more people that may be on the look out and potential early buyers of a sequel.

The real test of the title would be on it's sequel, to appeal to all those that bought the 1st game, only hopefully this time at full price.

So a real test of that would be to see what kind of numbers No More Heroes 2 pulls out.

And the $12 price was temporary. It's back at $20 when I ordered it.

Perhaps, but if the game doesn't make a decent profit it is highly unlikely there will ever be a sequel anyway.

No, because that's exactly how it is for me too. I actually have quite a few games still in the shrink wrap that I got during the holidays and since then that I haven't touched. That's just how it is for me when there are games for cheap. I know the prices won't last, and in fact the games themselves might be discontinued so I impulsively grab them and then there they sit for months or years...

   First new IP Nintendo releases in a while that targets hardcore gamers and I doubt we'll ever see it stateside.
 
Bayonetta is already double what Madworld sold (VGS has it listed at 410K on the Xbox 360 and about the same on the PS3).  It will break the million mark before a major price drop I guessing.  Still thought it should have sold a bit more, Darksiders outsold it. 
 
No More Heroes 2 was 60K according to VGS (one week of Jan plus one week of Feb).  Again, not selling at all well.  T-whatever vrs Capcom sold a modest number around 200K.

Looks like they only shipped about 32,000 copies so 22,000 isn't bad.

Bayonetta is a fun game, but it is not flawless. Enemies can land really cheap hits if you are not careful (and sometimes Witch Time doesn't happen at all), and the storyline itself is stupid as hell. Basically a Devil May Cry with tits, though I give Kamiya props for making an Okami cameo.
