We all know the lifetime sales of the game will be higher. That wasn't the point. It's a silly bet and he probably shouldn't have agreed to it, but he was kind of pushed into it.

We all know those will be higher too. Again, not the point. The point was, they wanted to have some accomplishment for Modern Warfare 2 to be able to cling to, and that accomplishment is "Beat New Super Mario Brothers Wii in sales for holiday season 2009 in North America."

Tunnel vision and all of that.

Quote from: EEDAR
Core Games on Wii Continue To Struggle
No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle has scored top reviews averaging a 90 (out of 100) since its release. However, sales came less than 30,000 units for its first week (January 26, 2010 release). Given that the game is more targeted to the traditional core gamers (who tend to be more attached to the Xbox 360 and PS3) this is yet another sign that the Wii is a difficult device for third party publishers to succeed on with M Rated titles. Other titles that have failed to perform despite strong review scores on the Wii include Dead Space: Extraction (ERTS) and MadWorld (Sega). Of course, all three titles did have low marketing budgets, which is likely the wrong strategy to use when attempting to target the Wii consumer, even if you are targeting the “core” market.

if it continues to do 30k a week it would have 120k 1st month(150k by the time we see numbers again), and that seems like a pretty good start for a game that I haven't seen a single commercial for.

NSMB will continue to sell extremely well for the duration of the Wii's lifecycle. The same cannot be said for the CoD game. It might have sold more in the first three months (which is not totally fair btw, because CoD is a multiplatform game), but next month it will sell considerably less, and then the month after it will sell considerably more less, and the next month it won't chart at all... but NSMB will continue to chug along for the next 2-3 years.

And in the end Reggie will have been proven right, but it might have taken longer than predicted.

So how does NMH2 sales compare to those of the original for its first week? If NMH2 is doing better than NMH1 then I would definitely consider that a success of sorts. Also, a lot of people don't seem to realize the long burn games like that have on the Wii. How many copies has NMH1 sold LTD? Sales during the first month may be disappointing, but just wait and see...

Well darn.

Oh well, it always was a stretch, and the only reason we considered it was the immense strength of NSMBWii in December.
