If that's with new stock, that's even more terrible!  What a hopeless product.

I think it's absolute BS that SMB3 is below Super Mario Land in Japanese sales. It is a travesty beyond all proportions.

you gotta remember that SML was on a handheld, which is owned by individuals who would all buy their own copies.

SMB3 is on a console, which is usually 1 per household and several people share all the same games.

For SMB3 to be that close to SML, I think it did pretty damn good. Too bad NSMBW is gonna beat them both ;)

Of course there's no reason for a household to have more than one copy of a specific game (unless it has only one save and even then it's questionable), two at most.

For a contemporary game to climb higher is amazing considering digi-distro (Public Piracy(TM)).

I don't think that Super Mario Land selling better than Super Mario Brothers 3 has anything to do with one being on a handheld vs. console. Super Mario Land was one of the first Game Boy games so it didn't really have much competition, whereas Super Mario Brothers 3 released at a time when hundreds of other NES games were available and the Super NES wasn't too far off either.

Super Mario Brothers sold the best because it came first.

Mop it up makes a excellent point. At the time Mario Land was released it was pretty much the only game in town beyond Tetris on the system in terms of an "A+" quality game that would turn heads.

...In America. SMB3 came over to the Americas in 1990. It's Japanese release was in 1988. But the games comment still applies.

It was a good launch game, but I don't consider it A+ quality. SML2 IS A+ quality for a Mario handheld game (in terms of Game Boy Mario titles).

Must be sarcasm considering FFXIII went from 1.5 million 1st week to 188k 2nd week.
Whats that? an almost 87% drop in sales from week to week.

There better be a HUGE advertising campaign in US/EUR if they are gonna make the quota that was necessary, but that would mean they need to sink even more money into the game just to advertise it.

Money sinking at it's finest.

I highly doubt Crystal Bearers made a big dent in terms of budget, even though it's (IMHO) one of the best looking and well-thought out Wii games.

Gosh, what's with the FFXIII hate? It's performing in line with previous Final Fantasies. That may not be what they want in Japan, but the American and european markets are so much larger nowadays. They can still put up strong numbers.

Besides, all that hate is better spent on FFVII.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Why FFVII?

I hear it getting remade for the Wii... why would we hate on that?

I didn't really hear that, but it would be pretty cool though.
