This news hit like a runaway Skell.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/40877/xenoblade-chronicles-x-gets-limited-editions-wii-download-of-original-in-europeaustralia

Xenoblade Chronicles X will feature two bundles and a special offer for Europe.

Upon the game's 4 December release, there will be two limited edition bundles available. A game bundle that includes a steelbook, two posters (world map and cover art) and an artbook will be available for existing Wii U owners. For those who would be jumping in new, a console bundle will be available that includes the world map poster and the artbook.

In addition, Xenoblade Chronicles has been put up today as a Wii download on the Wii U eShop. Buying Xenoblade during the first two weeks of sale will offer a £9/AUS$13 discount off a download of Xenoblade Chronicles X.

Awesome. Digital Xenoblade should've been out a long time ago (considering how long it takes to play) but awesome that it's finally here.

I already own 2 copies of Xenoblade but £9 is a colossal steal for anyone who has never played it, It cannot be understated how great this game is. I really want The Last Story to come out now since I never got it the first time round, then I can complete my WiiJRPG Triforce.

As for the special edition I'll preorder it as soon as it goes up. Xenoblade X is the reason I got the Wii U so may as well get the best version available.

AWESOME!!! Hopefully soon this article will be updated to say ditto for North America. I already own BOTH the Wii and New 3DS versions of Xenoblade, but it's my all time favorite game so I wouldn't hesitate to download it TODAY.

As for the special editions...I regret not pre-ordering and getting the art on the Wii, but honestly I hadn't heard of the game so I didn't know any better I learned about it through listening to the back catalog of Radio Free Nintendo.

If the Wii U Bundle has a decorated Gamepad like the Wind Waker did I'll proably buy a new Wii U to get it, if not I'll get the game with the steel book and the posters.

America will probably get the game with no spiffy extras, as per usual. We probably won't even get the original game on the eShop.

I think I may finally jump on the Wii U bandwagon and get one with this bundle.  Hopefully I'll be able to snag one.

Expect NoA to drop Xenoblade Chronicles Wii on the eShop around summer 2016.

By "Special Edition", I'm sure they just mean they're releasing an edition AT ALL since NoA is seemingly no longer in the business of releasing and selling games, and are probably only touching this game under protest.

Ha! Come on now, we're getting something special. It will most likely be worthless trinkets that are lesser to other regions, but it's something to be a bit happy about.

I want to believe, man, but technically a Gamestop exclusive release ala Xenoblade 1 would be considered a Special Edition and NoA has a pretty thorough track record lately of getting completely outclassed by their European counterpart.

Can't argue against that. I have low expectations; I bet we won't even get the map. I just hope the international versions get the May 2015 DLC for free. I seriously doubt that, though.

It's sad to see so much negativity surrounding NoA, and then realize that there is actual precedent for all of it.

There actually is a hypothetical good reason for NOA not to offer the download.  The game just came out on the New 3DS and it is the only New 3DS exclusive thus far.  So people went a bought a whole new system for a game that was just going to be released on the eShop a few months later?  NOA might be assuming that New 3DS owners might be upset that their system's big exclusive just got another release and they also probably figure it will hurt future New 3DS sales since that game remains the sole New 3DS exclusive title.

Of course it is NOA so a simpler explanation might be that they're going to do things worse than NCL and NOE because that's how they roll these days.

It's technically not the only exclusive as the New 3DS also has the ability to scan Amiibo without an external port.  I think some games allow the second analog nub to function as well (I think Smash may be one).  So there are other reasons people pick up the New 3DS than just the one game that doesn't play on older 3DS's.

Smash uses the nub and NFC reader, and Majora's Mask uses the nub.

I think that's literally it.  The only other feature of the ~new~ Nintendo 3DS XL is the processor that makes the loading times noticeably shorter (especially with Smash and Pokemon) is the "super stable 3D", both are admittedly nice features.

But Xenoblade 3D is the only game exclusive to the system.  Which is completely unlike the DSi which had all that DSiWare.

Its exclusive to a mail in order system and they only have 300 in stock.

Also the artbook and poster got replaced by some cheap stickers and a new wrist strap for your wii remote.

Many games that supported the Circle Pad Pro accessory also work better on New 3DS - Resident Evil Revelations uses the nub, and Metal Gear 3, and I'm pretty sure that Monster Hunter 3 and Ace Combat both do too (although Ace Combat might require that you buy the new version).

Improved 3D viewing angles are a plus in essentially any game you use the effect for.

Xenoblade is still the only game that actually requires a New 3DS system though.  Which is the only reason I haven't bought it yet.

Didn't know that many titles supported the nub!

Does it work with Kid Icarus: Uprising?

Of note: Binding of Isaac just came out a couple of weeks ago and is New 3DS exclusive. Litespeed will be as well as the Pinball Arcade, and Unity only works on the New 3DS for now which opens up a host of potential... not really "exclusives" but games that can't run on the older model 3DSes.

Also, Kid Icarus Uprising did support the Circle Pad Pro but only inasmuch as providing support for left-handed players.

Xenoblade (first game) was published by Gamestop in NA so that I think that's the hold up with E-shop.  Gamestop is still selling the original at $80?
