Nintendo Gaming / Summoner or Lost Kingdoms?
« on: May 26, 2003, 07:49:27 AM »
Yeah, save up and get SoAL if you haven't played that.

I bought LK and regetted getting it.  It has neat combat system but the lackluster story and characters personality made it a bore.  Also the game is rather short--so I would recommend renting it for $6.00 then buying it.

I've only played around 4-5 hours of summoner 2 (PS2) but there wasn't anything to exciting about it.  It's average I would say and maybe worth a rental.

General Gaming / Opinions on Half-Life 2
« on: May 24, 2003, 08:58:35 AM »
Halflife actually won GOTY based on it's SP, while the mods didn't flow in until after.

For example, TFC wasn't included until the GOTY edition, and CS was never included until the plantium.

Why was HL so freaking great was the "world", friendly and enemy AI, enemy skelton structure.

As for dates, HL was released in 1998 (fall) and the graphics were top notch for the time and if you want to compare a game of the similar timeline--play SIN.

Some retailers are selling them, target is one.  It's $9.99 though.

Think Too Human is canned myself.

After the disappointing ED sales, Nintendo/SK bought rights for MGS Remake--A game series that's well known with older gamers.

So whatever work was done with Too Human, I'm guessing it's going stay on the shelf.

Nintendo Gaming / GameCube Online (GameSpy)
« on: May 21, 2003, 04:08:23 PM »
"The tools GameSpy is making for Nintendo's games have NOTHING to do with "tunnelling". It's going to be full-on internet play, no PC needed. Saying that the "tunnel" will be included on the disc is not at all accurate, since no tunnelling would be necessary at all. Basically, GameSpy is making the networking tools that Nintendo and other developers will use. GameSpy will provide the infrastructure, effectively making GameSpy's network the "Live" service for GameCube. This is what Iwata was alluding to today, I'm fairly certain, and is what the previous press release referred to."

But that really doesn't make much sense though since Big N stated that Mario Kart will be LAN only.  What you're describing would make the game ONLINE (Broadband only) similar to Socom.  :0

Why wouldn't nintendo state that at E3?

Nintendo Gaming / Amazing Deals!
« on: May 21, 2003, 04:03:08 PM »
Actually Block Buster is selling Brand new factory sealed Metroid Prime for $20 as well.

Mech Assault for the Xbox is $20, and Ratchet and Clank for the PS2 for $20.

So $15 for a used game would sound right :0.

Block Buster is also selling RE0 new for $20.

EB has a similar % as gamespot except it's with GMR ($10 for $10 issues+you get the %10 off used games).

Nintendo Gaming / Just buy Sega already!
« on: May 20, 2003, 11:47:51 PM »
What's funny is Rare generated nearly a billion in profits in four years (1996-2000). :0

That's $250 million per year.

------------------------------------------------------------------

But what's important about these larger companies is the "character rights" IMO.   Sonic anyone? Millions of fans/gamers/grandmothers know that name and that's what sells.

Brand name stuff.  Imagine Nintendo owning Sega and what that'll do with Nintendo's lineup?  Sonic in SSBM, what about Mario Kart?, ect.

Think letting go of Rare wasn't going hurt them since big N can make their own platform games and there is some 3rd party support for FPS shooters now.

But Sega on the other hand, there's tons sega can bring to the GC.  The most important would be the Sega sport series IMO.  Nintendo really doesn't have much for "exclusive" sports and Sega makes some of the greatest.  Sega GT, NFL 2k3, ect.

In the long run, having exclusive sports lineup will add "additional" consumers for all of Nintendo products.

:0

That's just MHO.

" there is nothing a single person can to to change the sales on a whole, you buy 1 and perhaps 2 consoles by 1 company"

Word of mouth is quite a bit stronger than you think.  It's spreads like a virus :0.

Nintendo Gaming / D&D Heroes -- XBox Exclusive
« on: May 20, 2003, 06:42:49 AM »
Actually the GC has the lowest amount of 3rd party sales in general and that's why developers have been canning games.

For example, Red Rock which was a PS2/GC game.  Try explaining that.  Or what about Sega sports?  It's still coming on the PS2/xbox?

Whole big list.

Alot of times the reason behind xbox getting the most from these developers is because these are PC developers--which means the can easily make xbox games since the already know how to program for the api.

Nintendo Gaming / New Hardware in 2005?
« on: May 19, 2003, 06:41:39 PM »
"this time"

Yeah, I really don't think nintendo plans on actually releasing in 2005.  I still believe it will be a mid-2006 before any next generation launches.   They just say 2005 to see if any of the other manufactures jump the gun and releases premature.

My guess nintendo won't launch until the an amp amount of software is already which states 2-3 years at min.  Plus you really don't want to launch prior to Sony/MS without knowing what the system can DO.  NO sense to release a console just to be kicked in the teeth 1 year later (DC anyone).

It's all about timing.

1563
Ironic, just in the other thread I was called all kinds of mean names then someone turns around and uses my numbers to his/her point.  Where's my justice?

Yeah, 13 million is 3 million to high unless it's shipped not sold.  But I don't really think sony was trying to confuse anyone, think they just took 13 million as the "maxium" number for xboxes since MS themselves didn't release that number.

And yeah, Nintendo's 3rd party sales is greatly lower than the xbox's even though it's sale base is the same.  It really doesn't look like that's going change anytime soon, GC owners buy Nintendo games (go figure :0 ).

-----------------------------------------------------

The PS2 is the mightly king and I don't think anybody at MS or Nintendo will disagree and right now it's all about "runner-up" and saving face.

1564
Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it was a choice.

Both the GBP and GBA are $50 now.  Alot of games are requiring the GBA as a "controller" so it would make sense to own one.

Also, did anyone find out how the GBP will deliever the GBA content (for example, metroid fusion suit to metroid prime--I should post this in IGN mailbag to see what they say).

I think you're going need a GBA still.

It doesn't make a difference since performance is the same.

And all these "features" are included in the ISP that I listed as well.

Why pay more for the same service?

Unless you live in hicksville then there's bound to be multiple ISPs.

"Ummm...no. Its 21.95 a month. And for some people who were going to get MSN anyway,"

That's 56k?  Not broadband.

$21.95 per month for 56k, yet there is plenty that charge 1/2 that ($9 a month for dreamcatcher from example).  Some charge $7.

36 months at $21.95 = 790.20 (MSN gives you $400 rebate)
36 months at $9 =324

You end up paying $66.20 more.

"remember how dead m$ was in europe and america before the bundles. they were at one point giving away xboxs with a 2 year subscription to msn braodband. that just shows u how bad it was actually selling. if m$ didnt do the bundles it would have gone out of buisness already. cuz although it wasnt doing great in america, it wasnt doing bad....but it had officially flopped in europe."

LOL, guess you didn't hear about nintendo's promo then?

And signing up on MSN gives you $200 here in the states has been for years.  Why, because they freaking charge you $40 a month and you're ON a CONTRACT.  Same with AOL BTW.   This really isn't a promo,  more like screwing morons :0 since the FEE on breaking the contract is Laughable.

Never--Ever--be a fool and sign up with something requiring a contract without reading the fine print.

"Halo WILL come to the Macintosh is because it's been in our contract for a long, long time."

Sounds like them are being forced otherwise it would be a breach of contract--something MS doesn't need more of.

That was a quote from bungie who had strong times with mac for the longest of times.

Since I already posted my sources a few times, others have even posted it as well in the existing NPD thread?

Doubt my numbers?  They come from nintendo's freaking fiscal report 2001 & 2002.  Nintendo's fiscal period ends march 31.

In 2001 nintendo missed it's goal of 4 million units, stated it was 3.5 million.
In 2002 nintendo missed it's goal of 10 million units, it stated it sold 5.6 million.

Just do the math--that's 9.1 million.

MS stated 8 million Xbox's sold by the end of it's 2002 (Dec 31st) year.  Since then it sold 700K straight from NPD alone.  (That's jan-march) alone.

---------------------------------------

Saddly, I'm not a fanboy since I own ALL (of course I'm a TRUE gamer) but I'm not some blindass fanboy making numbers out of the blue.

Yeah,

MS's is kinda forced to release the PC version since it was part of the contract when it acquired Bungie, which stated Halo was going to the PC & MAC.

Halo 2 doesn't have such a contract so will MS still port the game?  Not likely.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also, what's really a key for online gaming nowadays is the developers tool kit?  Does anyone know for a fact that the PC version will be getting the tool kit or not?
