Sega Toying with DS Development Hardware

Big blue is still on the fence, but game development seems likely.

Although Nintendo had only revealed their new Nintendo DS system a week or two ago, it was pretty obvious that the backbone of the system was well in place, meaning development kits were surely completed.

This appears to be the case, because according to a report in the Nikkei Keizai, Sega has been confirmed to be in posession of some form of DS hardware.  The official word from the company is that they are still evaluating the system.  Considering Nintendo usually doesn't give these things out for free, however, it would be a rather safe assumption that Sega will be making games for the Nintendo DS at some point in the future, perhaps even as soon as now in order to have a game or games ready for the system's launch toward the end of the year.

Sega supported the N-gage, so I would hope they would support the DS...

Sega made the f*cking PICO so they better support the DS.  It's rather hypocritical to have a history of creating your own crazy hardware and not support someone else's.  I figure they will support the DS simply because they support pretty much everything to some extent.

Plus they have Naka and Suzuki both of which are crazy Japanese designers and thus seem likely to support something like this.

So another developer announced that they'll have games ready for the PSP launch but are still evaluating the DS?

The DS better have a killer showing at E3...

Sega also said that they've had Development Kits for the DS since last year.

You have a very good point there. If Sega will develop for a guarantee disaster such as the N Gage, then I don't see why they would not make games for the DS.

I'm guessing Nokia paid them lots of money to support their precious N-gage..

Here's hoping for a Super Monkey Ball game to launch with the DS

Picture Sonic on 2 screens! The boys at Sonic Team seem to be in a slump, but I'm sure Naka and the gang can get something going.

Now I wait for Capcom's announcement.... (and if you believe in miracles, Square-Enix may want of a piece of the action too..)

It seems Sega and Capcom will make games for any system no matter how goofy (No opinion satated here). I expect they will develop at least a few DS games.
