Wii Remote Holder Unboxing
« on: February 11, 2010, 04:21:58 PM »
http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/blogArt.cfm?artid=21151

Another day, another unboxing photo essay. I was sick of seeing my Club Nintendo coins pile up without being put to any sort of use. As we're all aware, though, Club Nintendo's North American rewards are pretty worthless, on the whole. Oh wait, they did just add all those folders and greeting cards. Where was I? Right, the shittiness. There are only two things I actually want from Club Nintendo, but the photos on Nintendo's site don't speak well of their quality. But hey, I took the plunge and ordered a Wii Remote Holder. Join me in my unboxing adventure, folks. Let's see how worth it 300 coins is.

The thing came in a relatively flat bag. Tearing open said bag revealed a small rectangular item wrapped in paper.

WRH in Paper

My mission was clear: rip the paper off my promised prize and bask in the glory that is the Wii Remote Holder. It will be EPIC!

WRH Folded

Okay, "epic" might be the wrong word. "Sort of cool" might suffice. Notice that the sides fold in. The holder is made of white plastic on the front and back, and split plastic on the sides, and thick blue fabric inside. The white plastic exterior is stitched to what I imagine is a thick plastic panel between the outer covering and the blue fabric. To transform the folded holder, you just...

WRH Folded

You unfold it, and the bottom folds down to form a solid platform inside, kind of like a banker's box (but much smaller). Notice the stitching along the outer frame. It rather muddies the appearance, to my mind.

WHR Open

You can put your weed in there.

WRH Remote

The Wii Remote with condom fits nicely within its sturdy confines. However, and this is the ultimate test: will it fit both a Wii Remote and a Nunchuck, as advertised at Club Nintendo?

WRH Wiichuck

Well...yes. The cord kind of billows out, though. This is certainly better than the alternative (laying on the entertainment center).

WRH WM+

Maybe THIS is the ultimate test. Will it hold a Wii Remote with Wii Motion Plus attached? Yeah, no problems there, either.

The product certainly does as advertised, but it's not the prettiest way to store your Wii Remote. It's not like you have tons of options, and for 300 points it's not bad. I'm tempted to get a second one, seeing as I have two Wii Remotes, and doing so would free up room in my accessories drawer (which is very full). We'll see. I'll probably try one of those DS game card cases next. What say you, dear readers?

This would be my PSN Trophy Card, but I guess I can't post HTML in my Signature. I'm the pixel spaceship, and I have nine Gold trophies.

How well did it hold your weed?

Should I call Kashogi? He might be a lot more interested in your answer than I am.

I went for the Zelda posters, they are pretty big and come in a cylindrical tube so they aren't folded either.
Bless you, my child.

Oh BTW, I got the folders. P. Peach, Toad and Mario & Yoshi. They all come with matching book marks. Made a perfect after holiday, back to school present.

I got one of these a few months ago.  I've had 3 remotes in mine.

I've looked at this holder a couple of times, but never had enough information to make a strong decision.  Thanks for the unboxing - answers a lot of questions.

It's actually less impressive than I expected. Didn't know that was possible.

I think you can get something like this at Office Depot or Wal-mart.  Just find yourself a Wii sticker and you're all set.

I failed to mention that there's a microscopic "Club Nintendo" icon on the back panel. Can't get THAT anywhere else. *sigh*

I just can't fathom why Club Nintendo has turned out to be such a monumental collection of FAIL.  They have all this stuff in the Japanese Club Nintendo that they could bring over here with minimal (if any) localization costs, and they just...don't.  Gee, come to think of it that pretty much sums up my opinion lately of Nintendo of America in general.  ::)

For what it's worth, the Hanafuda cards are pretty awesome.  Totally not useful for most people, but still a decent product that I haven't seen anywhere else.

My wife also likes her Animal Crossing deck of cards, although it's hard to compare these items to the awesome stuff that Japan has gotten.

I'm still dreaming that Nintendo will put some game soundtracks up eventually. I'd love to get CDs for Super Mario Galaxy or Wario Land Shake It.  Maybe the next Zelda game too, if it gets special attention to the background music.

What would others like to see?

Soundtracks are my number 1 "must want" out of Club Nintendo. Maybe collectable figurines (I'm a slave to that sort of thing), art books, or the ability to turn your coins into Nintendo Points.

I especially like how I filled out that survey basically telling Club Nintendo to get with the program, and a few weeks later they give us...folders and greeting cards.

Soundtracks are my #1 item as well, and considering they're products that Nintendo could bring over here with or without translated liner notes it makes no sense that we haven't seen them yet.  After that, I'd say art books and the Nintendo Europe-style way of converting your Coins to VC/WiiWare points is appealing as well.  But I really want those soundtrack CDs.

I had some interest in those Hanafuda cards as well, but then I saw a video of someone unboxing them and saw those things are ****ing microscopic.  The art doesn't look terribly impressive, either.

Here is what Nintendo needs to put up on Club Nintendo ASAP
http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=387455

This will make lots of fanboys and collectors attempt to get as many Nintendo Points as possibly as quickly as possible. No more hording of games registration codes until the next cycle. More points NOW!!!

I would love to see:

-Official Soundtrack CDs
-Nintendo Points Card
-Coin to Points conversion w/automatic feed to your Wii Shop or DSi Shop
"Do you expect me to talk?"
"No, Mr. Bond. I expect you to die."

The Coins-to-points ideas make me sad.  After buying about 25-30 Wii games, you'll be able to get one points card worth of points (assuming a 1 coin = 1 point ratio).

Y'all can just sell your registration codes on eBay for more than 50 - 80 cents each.  I think they usually get a minimum of $2.  Use that to buy the same Wii Points you can get anywhere else.

I'd really like to see imported games as options through Club Nintendo.  For example, Tingle's Rupeeland - they could easily take the UK version and release it through Club Nintendo as some kind of exclusive - would work well with the Regionless DS software.  Sadly, no Trace Memory 2, as it's not regionless. :(

While it makes sense to follow the NOE version, you have to earn up a fast enough amount of Nintendo titles and convert them over to stars before they expire and you lose them all anyway.

If anyone *really* wants Nintendo Points for their Coins/Prizes, send me a PM - I'm not against the idea of buying Point Cards in exchange for some of the stuff they offer. :)

How much would she charge for them? I'll bet they'd be a premium price since they are an "authentic art class" piece.
