I am in a time dilation field called New Zealand, so new for me maybe old for you. The first episode of the "new" season contains Linda Hamilton and Chuck coming out of "retirement" after exploding the Buy More.

I have no issue with multiparts or having entire seasons tied to an arc, it's just that those two episodes were absolutely boring, terrible *Add negative adjective* and add almost nothing except establishing the Gangers, something that could have been done in one episode not two.

YES! But if you watch the entire episode as a setup to what happens at the very end of the second then it becomes a little more tolerable - it doesn't make it a better episode though.

I'm going to Wait Wait Don't Tell Me tonight.

They tape the show on a Thursday?  Why did I think they performed that live on the weekends, then again it does sound like it gets edited.  I wonder if they involve the audience more live then they do on the radio.  Sounds like fun though.
OMG someone knows what I'm talking about... Will you be my 3DS friend? Ok, I was going to try to friend you anyways
I thought they did on Saturday as well.  That was part of the reason I was a little mad when WPLN started airing it on Sunday, for 2 hours of Says You... I mean seriously 1 hour is enough of that show.  Their is another quiz show they do I always forget anyways.  I hope they do involve the crowd more.  Also shot out shirts.  Or a hat with the bubble in foam.

Yeah I listen to NPR a lot.  Wait Wait is the only thing on NPR my girlfriend will allow me to listen to while she is in the car.  We only have 1hr of Says You on KQED and agree that would get old over 2hrs, but I only catch that one every once in while anyway.

I'd like to hear how the live show is so I know if I should try to catch it if/when it comes to town.

Still loving "How I Met Your Mother."

Still irritated by the script calling for commentary on Robin's bosom surprisingly often, because she doesn't HAVE one. Every time somebody brings it up ("Robin, stop puffing out your breasts!") my wife and I say, together, "WHAT BREASTS?" It's like the writers have never seen the woman who was cast in that role.

You can see her boobs.  That may actually be the joke because their not large but shes not totally flat..  I just don't remember that many reference.  Yesterday I watched the Lemon Law episode, Skanky Pumpkin, Cock-a-mouse, and Lily Stabbed by a Sword one.  (My Wife is watching through these so I catch some.  Even though I think I've seen most.)

The one and only problem I have with HIMYM is that I hate Ted. He is not funny unlikable asshole like the folks over at It's Always Sunny, but he is a weak pissant whiney douche who has the world going for him more often than not and he still complains. Everybody else is awesome though and I would marry Robin in a heartbeat, that is some near perfection going on there and for bonus points, a Canadian.

Falling Skies:
I'm not going to assign this a numbered rating because I've only seen the season premiere, and I can't yet tell if I like it enough to keep watching.

The premise is interesting, the acting is surprisingly good, and production value is good but still TV grade special effects. There were some real 'human' momentas that connected you to the characters and what they're going through, the story progressed nicely, though it felt slightly forced, and character development was pretty decent as well. However, a lot of characters acted out of character (and this just within the two episode season premier) and that annoyed me to the point where all those good things about the show went out the window. If they stay consistent with the characters being inconsistent, or  don't randomly change their feelings again, I think I'll like this show.

I'm not sure why I bother sometimes, but I just finished watching the anime High School of the Dead and it is...utter gutter trash.  Sure, the show starts out decently enough with your run-of-the-mill zombie (though strangely no one calls them that) apocalypse and people running around and dying as several kids struggle to stay alive.  There was a little bit of fanservice here and there (this show loves its panty and breast shots), but the show was a bit of a guilty pleasure for at least not trying to hide what it was and having a bit of fun in the process.  And then at Episode 6 of this 12 episode series, the creators decided it was time to turn this zombie apocalypse into something very close to a softcore porno (naturally, none of the girls have proportions even approaching believable, even by anime standards).  And from that disastrous episode onwards, the show makes some stabs to return to its "dumb fun" roots but never really recovers.  And because the manga is still ongoing, the show just stops at episode 12 without anything approaching an ending.  That this show is a major new anime release makes me sad for the medium.

On the upside, there is a gun otaku/nerd in the show that is an utter badass.  I never got tired of watching him kick ass from the moment he managed to craft an assault rifle from a nail gun and some classroom materials. So at least there's one bright side to this series.  :D

That show left such a bad taste after finishing it that I'm going back and rewatching some older anime from the late 90s/early 2000s before moe nearly destroyed the art form, starting with a show that recently was re-released on Blu-Ray: Samurai Champloo.  I'm a couple of episodes in; I haven't seen this show in well over 5 years; and I was never its biggest fan, but watching it now it just seems so fresh and interesting with an energy you just don't see in modern shows.  Man...what happened to anime after this late 90s/early 2000s renaissance, where it felt like there was so much experimentation/quality storytelling in anime?  Vision of Escaflowne; The Big O; Trigun; Samurai Champloo; Outlaw Star; Cowboy Bebop; Gundam 8th MS Team etc.?  I don't want to come off as the relative old guy here lamenting that things today aren't "as good as in my day", but they certainly aren't outside of a rare show or two.

And by the way, if you've been wondering if it's worth it to get the Blu-Ray release, I'd say it's probably not if you already have the DVDs.  The colors are a bit faded and the picture quality is fuzzy by modern standards.  It's not a fault of the show itself, but this is an HD upscale for a standard definition show and it looks every bit of it.  If you don't already own the series, though, it's still a fine release for what was possible with a show made in the early 2000s.  I'm actually pleasantly surprised that the show is in widescreen, because I'd forgotten that and most anime didn't go widescreen until several years later.

Highschool of the Dead was pretty mediocre. The animation was a lot more fluid than most anime I see though. I thought that the entire thing was brought down by the ridiculous amount of fanservice peppered throughout every episode.

Eh, I found the animation pretty hit-or-miss the whole series.  While it was pretty decent for most of the series (I don't recall ever seeing panned still frames, for instance) and occasionally showed the excellence I regularly expect from a revered studio like Madhouse, I saw the characters go off-model (Rei is a frequent offender) in several episodes and there's an awful lot of scenes where only characters' mouths are (slightly) moving.  Overall, I'd say it was competent, but I'm seeing way more consistent and fluid animation in Champloo right now and I expect a lot more from the studio that made Death Note and is supposedly working on Hellsing Ultimate.

The thing about fanservice is that I don't have a huge problem with it so long as it's kept to a minimum and tastefully executed.  I can enjoy a good harem or slice-of-life series every once in a while that occasionally uses it, my favorite being "Ah!  My Goddess!" (which, incidentally, is one of the most tame and sweet series of its genre ever created).  Modern anime just doesn't seem to know how not to cross the line into creepy and pedophilic, and I blame that on the creepy Japanese otaku the industry is a slave to right now.

Renaissances end, simple as that. You are not alone in your disdain for the quality of current anime, it's bad enough that I regret even given a copy of Gundam 00 - The definition of a gold plated turd. There are a couple of things I have/want to see, but they are few and far between compared to 10 years ago and they are mostly sequels and remakes from that period(Slayers, Evangelion remakes, Gunslinger Girls, sequal to Kite).

Ahh, Samurai Champloo, a bloody good show. The original is a hair fuzzy, not something that can be helped even if the show is heavy with digital models like Area 88(2005) given the limitations of SD resolutions espically if you want more details. Favorite episode has to be 23:Baseball Blues, something that finally makes that drab game inteeresting.

Smallville Final Season 10. Simply put, it is the Superman that fans of the show from the beginning were waiting for and finally the Superman everybody else knows and loves. It's also sad since while everyone finally got what they wanted, it ends here. They also killed my favorite character Tess. Any word that there is a sequal to this?

I haven't watched much anime in a while.  So much is based on manga but butchers the pacing, development, sometimes the story itself, and is full of filler episodes.
I've read the begining of Highschool of the Dead and one of the chapters had straight up tits, no steam, no fog, no shadows, so the anime has probably toned down the fanservice.

The last anime I did see was Baccano! and I definitely recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.  The first couple episodes are a little awkward because of the non-linear story telling but it is one of my favorite animes.  A ton of great characters, and a very intersting premise.

Well, I've finished Samurai Champloo, and I'm glad I gave this series another chance because I really didn't care for it all that much back when I originally saw it.  I think back then, this show was really trapped in the shadow of its spiritual predecessor: Cowboy Bebop, a standard it never did and never could measure up against.  Watching it now after so many years have passed, I think I can enjoy it more on its own merits...with some caveats.  Like Bebop, comedy episodes and adventure-y episodes work great as the show continually throws the main trio into various situations, playing their personalities against each other for maximum effect. Unlike Bebop, though, when the series tries to be overly dramatic it just doesn't work because the writers have the cast separate, and I'm sorry but these characters just aren't interesting enough to carry some of the more substandard stories by themselves.  And while there are some really cool sequences in certain episodes, I don't think the writers allowed themselves to really let loose enough.  There's a certain restrained insanity that fueled Bebop that this show tries to emulate with its hip-hop/samurai mixture, but it just doesn't go far enough in most episodes to carry some of these stories.  How do you manage to have a boring zombie episode, for example?   :Q   And I'd forgotten just how pessimistic and depressing so many of these episodes can be, which didn't help me care about their stories when they weren't supported with comedy episodes between them.

On the upside, I remembered the ending being a lot more boring and depressing than it really was (I came away much more satisfied this time); the dub is still excellent for its time; and when it works the show is just cool in a similar way to how Bebop often was.  The music's excellent as well, especially the very relaxing ending credits theme (which is something very, very few anime get right).  Unfortunately, I don't know if this is just how the dub was made or if it's a problem with the Blu-Ray transfer, but the English audio mix on this Blu-Ray re-release is kind of messed-up.  The audio levels jump all over the place in this show, with some scenes being extremely quiet only to gradually grow louder, and some vice-versa.  At first, I though it was my TV or PS3 doing stuff in the background to equalize the sound so I made sure all those options were disabled, but I still heard it to some extent.

Overall, Champloo's better than I remember it with a good style and (when the writers decide to unleash it) a good sense of fun, but it's held back by some really dull writing in sections and stories that just aren't that interesting.

Started watching Trigun on my old Geneon Tin-pack DVD re-releases, and man I'd forgotten how genuinely funny this show is in its first half.  It's amusing hearing how fresh and lively Jonny Yong Bosche sounded before he became the Nolan North of the anime dubbing industry.  I'm sorry, though, Madhouse...I know how much work you put into this show's animation, but this show always has and always will look like crap with its extremely faded color palette.  With colors this bleached, the show looks a good 10 years older than it actually is.  It reminds me of how the original Evangelion TV series looked before that show got a total color restoration to actually look like it was made in the mid-90s.  Perhaps the show's creators wanted it to look like that, though, because looking at the trailers for the upcoming Trigun: Badlands Rumble revival movie you can still see some of that bleached color palette.

Falling Skies: 8/10 Okay so after 4 episodes, this is getting pretty good. The plot is thickening with wonder, and the characters are becoming more endearing with each episode. The changes I complained about in the first episode have been maintained through the others and it works well.

Curb Your Enthusiasm Season 6: 7/10 so far. The first episode was freaking hilarious, but the second was a little disappointing. Usually happens, so I'm just glad this show is back on the air and can't wait for more Cheryl episodes.
