ps2 mod chipping

given there is no form of freeloader for ps2 (that i'm aware of) i'm considering modding my ps2 to play import games (ddr .__.) so err, any idea if modding a PAL ps2 will remove region locks?

The GC seems to be the only one not requiring a modchip.
