Question about HD resolution
« on: October 29, 2013, 05:21:47 PM »
How can tablets and smartphones render everything in 1080p, while more powerful game consoles still only output in 720p?

Game consoles are doing a lot more than rendering a resolution.

PCs do even more than consoles, yet they have no problems running games in super-high resolutions (above 1080p). So why are consoles so bottlenecked? The Xbox One still struggles running games in 1080p, while the PS4 can do it easily. You'd think an 8-core CPU and 8GB RAM would make this an easy task, right?

The truth is that most modern technology can reach the 1080p resolution, but it is still too costly and taxing on the hardware to justify raising the bar that far and 720p resolution is still adequate for modern gaming.
