So was Uncle Bob the seller or the buyer? I could believe either one. :P

Considering what was in the sale, that's a fair price. I don't think it was UB selling them though since he hasn't changed his title to "I'm rich biatch!"

You know...if I was an investor I would have bought that to start a video game museum...You had everything you needed to begin creating a kick ass museum.

After looking at the article my first reaction is: Only 1.2 Million dollars?  If everything is in the condition they say that should have easily been more in my mind.  That would make an Awesome museum.

Hopefully it will go into some sort of museum or something like that. It would suck if it all ends up in someone's closet where it is never seen or heard from again. I imagine some of that stuff has to be extremely rare.

If it really is the full library of each of those consoles.  I would say a lot of it would be pretty rare in that condition.

I can't imagine owning every game for a console.  I collect old games and my SNES collection is my favourite.  I collect the GOOD games and I still have some rare ones left to get.  I've never had any desire to also collect the bad titles.  It just seems unnecessary.  Playing these games is part of the experience and why would I want to play Awesome Possum or Mr. Nutz?  If I somehow became rich the only change would be that I would try to get the box and manual for every game in my collection.

I doubt anyone would pay over a million for a videogame collection if they were only moderately interested.  Who would pay that kind of money to let this rot in their basement?

Unless they were a multi-billionaire like Bill Gates or something, in which case $1 million to them would be like $10 or something to a normal person, and therefore no big deal to piss away.

To the government a million dollars is like a penny.

Anyway, I guess it depends on the government you're talking about. I don't know what Bill Gates' wealth is right now, but didn't he have about $100 billion at one point? I think that's more money than a lot of third world countries have.

Of worth not cash I'm fairly sure.  A lot of his wealth is tied up in stock by my understanding.

Just found this while reading news.

It makes the ROI on those Videogames seem pitiful in comparison.

No one's net worth is tied up in cash. That would be stupid. You have to have non-liquid assets to protect yourself from inflation and banks going bankrupt. The FDIC only insures you so much.

Up to $250,000. Which is more than most people are worth.

That's temporary. It'll go back down to $100k I think next year. But I was mostly referring to rich people. It'd be silly for Bill Gates to have that much in cash.

The Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act passed in July 2010 made the $250K level permanent.

Completely agree, the only reasonable explanation is that someone is starting a museum like Spak-Spang says. Either that or they plan on donating it to a museum since they have more money than they know what to do with.
