hey Matt, we're still waiting on halo for the ds....

what a bunch of sh*t.  they're trying to act like insiders, but they've got nothing.  don't bother giving it the clicks it doesn't deserve.

So you say making an online service is just as simple as making a controller shake? What puzzle me is that if it's a "Solved problem" then why do people complain about nintnedo wi-fi?

I meant others have solved it many times.  XBox Live/Halo. Quake, Counter Strike, World of Warcraft, etc. etc. ad nauseum.  That's why I made the rumble reference, this isn't pioneering technology like motion control, it's something well known at this point.  If Nintendo doesn't have the in house expertise then they either need to hire people or partner with a third party that does.  There is no technical reason for the delay.

"Did you ever stop to think that maby it's taking a while to get online games for the wii ready because they want to make the sarvice better then the DS's"

This would be a good argument if the year was 2000 and online gaming was still somewhat new to consoles.  We're in 2007 now.  That's like saying we need to wait for rumble so that Nintendo can do it right.  Sorry, no, Nintendo needs to get their sh*t together and get this out the door.  It's a solved problem.

This certainly is a favor to Microsoft who has a great online system.  I don't really understand what the problem is.  Third parties are used to hosting their own servers, and have their own clients built into the games.  All they need is a tcp/ip driver.  Is this what's missing?  Is Nintendo forcing them to use Nintendo's host, which isn't ready yet?

today's edition was great.  I think I played Viewtiful Joe more hours than any other game.  I replayed it many times and enjoyed each play through as the challenge got harder.  Blue is great.

I also think games are too easy these days.  I loved the challenge of getting gold medals in Rogue Squadron and fighting my way through VJ.  I'm also one of those who would have liked to see a game full of those classic warp levels in Sunshine.  They were to me the most fun and memorable of the game.

To those who think it's too hard or couldn't beat Fire Leo - I hope you revisit it and play through to the end, it's a treat.

rogue squadron was a great game *if* you went on to get all the gold medals.

well obviously if that's all they produce then that'll be the outcome...but the demand looks to be high, why couldn't it go out in front as the #1?

they need to do a lot more than a million per month if they want to do ~80 mil over a 5 year lifespan.

actually I have to agree that the use of wiimote seems to be wrong here.

ergonomically, it is better to have a split controller (ie wiimote + nunchuck) than having to hold a normal controller with both hands.  So holding the wiimote sideways for anything but nostalgia for the old nes controller seems wrong to me.  They could have the same effect using the two controllers, while being more comfortable.  Maybe that will be an option?

I'm also in the wait and see camp when it comes to buying a Wii.  I'm still playing through a few cube games that I didn't get around to, but this might push it over the edge for me when it comes out.

"According to NPD, the Xbox 360 came out on top across the three next-gen consoles, selling 1.1 million units compared to the Wii's 604,200 and the PS3's 490, 700."
-kotaku

while it's nice to see nintendo doing better than the ps3, 600 in dec, for a total of 1.1 mill in the us seems low to me.  I was calculating that to make 4 mil worldwide they would have had to do 2 mil in the us.  It's too bad they botched the manufacturing so much, they could have done much better.  Especially given that this is not high end hardware, ie no blue ray etc.

I forgot to mention - getting time alone means dinner/movie etc. not 10 minutes in the hall or bathroom

I think girls generally know your interested.  You don't need to tell them.  You need to do 2 things.  One, get time alone with them.  That sometimes involves luck, but often involves you asking them (I got asked out once though which was cool).  The second thing you need to do is when alone, and the time feels right, is lean in and hope for the best.

Seriously, I've never seen a guy getting mushing and pouring his heart out working (it only works after your already going out, and even then in rare conditions).

" GameCube shortages were much worse"

gamecube didn't even sell out on launch day did it? I don't remember any shortages - are you talking about other regions?

as to Kent's launching at the same time as MS, I think Nintendo was right to wait out Sony.  They would have just gone farther to copy Nintendo if given the chance.  They already did, but had to shoe horn motion sensing into their system.

I was/am surprised by the Wii shortages though.  Maybe it is selling much better than predicted, but I would have thought that by using hardware similar to the gamecube the production would have been faster.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Will the Wii have a Quarter 1 drought?
« on: December 17, 2006, 07:07:46 AM »
i think the anxiety comes from how shafted we were with Zelda TP.  Years of noise and then nothing until q4 2006!!
I'm hoping for at least one good q1 2007 release but realistically, Metroid is going to be q2 and Mario Galaxy q4.  And that's if we're lucky!  If my prediction holds, that makes smash bros a 2008 title.  There's still a lot of other great titles that Nintendo can get in there like Paper Mario and Wii Music to prevent a drought, but if your not 100% happy with today's Wii lineup and are waiting on new games, q1 & q2 2007 certainly could be a bit of a concern (although in the US, Wario Ware will probably help that A LOT even if there's nothing else).
