Even just looking at FF sales data in Japan alone shows something (console gaming and/or FF in general) is floundering. The PS1 games sold better than the PS2 & PS3 games.

The sales were better, but in terms of quality with gameplay/story, the PS1 games almost ruined the franchise for me. Final Fantasy VI pretty much spoiled me, because it was awesome.

I've obviously never played the game, but I think Friend Collection is like
Animal Crossing meets The Sims using Miis (possibly with a little bit of Facebook thrown in).

There are some videos on Youtube, but for the life of me, I can't figure out the appeal of the game.
But I don't use Facebook, never played The Sims and I'm not really a fan of Animal Crossing.
This could really catch on in North America and/or Europe.

I'd love to see a chart for Friend Collection show the peaks and pits of its weekly sales.  It seems to go up and down more than any other game, especially at that level of sales.

I noticed that too. But that will suck if it doesn't sell because that would blow any hope of the Wii getting the main FF games.

It's entirely Square's fault for not hyping the game and making a game with actual gameplay.  Those low sales will be proudly earned.

They will be proudly earned.  When there is no advertising outside of banner ads and sending a video of the game to certain media sites, it's not going to sell.
They're most likely going to put FFXIII ads in movie theatres, on primetime television and in multiple print ads as well as online.  It'll sell because of that.  If Crystal Bearers had the same ad space, it'd sell well I think.

Hello, I think people missed a few facts--

One FFXIII is being sold at a higher price tag than FFXII so if you factor in the $10-12 difference per copy.  FFXII costed 40=50 million to make.  FFXIII is rumored to be 100 million (though Square hasn't stated it) to make.  Two, you missed the fact this new engine is going be used in 2 other Square games so part of that developement costs should be split with that project.

And you still haven't factor in MS--yeah MS had to GIVE $$$ for FF and we all know it and I bet that price alone is High.

Hell Big N gave Square 150 million themsleves (right after Big N sold Rare) and all they got for it was FFCC series :(.  Well I guess they did get some DS titles too (DQIX) but not sure if that was part of the deal because Square wasn't even mergered with Enix at that time.

I think he's referring to that development studio that Nintendo opened in partnership with Square-Enix back in the GC days to produce projects for the GC, a studio that no longer exists and never really amounted to much.
