Episode 13: EL3CTRIC ANIMAL PANIC
« on: June 29, 2012, 02:04:26 AM »

Make sure you've got a comfortable seat and plenty of time before listening to this bumper episode!

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/famicast/30859

Famicast XIII

The first part of this 3+ hour show starts off with some (virtual) violence towards animals as Minoru talks about two completely weird and wacky "animal action" games he's been playing, Tokyo Jungle and Cubivore. Yes, that bizarre GameCube game that was originally developed for the Nintendo 64DD. This leads nicely into some GON talk from JC. If you don't know who GON is, or what his theme song sounds like, you will by the end of this show! After that, we pick Daan's brains on the E3 games he played (twice), but we try to not retread the same games you may have heard talked about on the other NWR podcasts. Even if you're sick of E3 wrap-up shows, there could be something of interest! With the new business out the way, we run down the whole Nintendo Direct presentation with focus on the Japanese one of course, something that seems to be becoming a Famicast tradition! After discussing Mario DLC, Animal Crossing and the 3DS LL we take a break and come back with....

Famicast XIII-2

Yes, this episode was so long we had to take a 24 hour break and come back with a different crew! Matt Walker joins the fray and helps us run down all the latest Nintendo news from Japan, including a VC release that brings out the fighting game fan in him. Life in Japan is a really special one this episode. We take you on a Nintendo history lesson, using TV commercials going as far back as the Famicom Disk System! If that wasn't enough already, we still find time to answer some listener mail and look back on our E3 hopes and dreams (and how they fared against reality).

So grab the biggest drink legally available to you, curl up with your favourite pet and a bowl of nicely seasoned rice, and enjoy the longest episode of the Famicast ever made!

Great show!  You guys are so dedicated!

If I may add some input regarding the external hard drive for Wii U:  You can make more than one partition on the hard drive.  Have a set amount of space for whatever it is you're using it for, and then use the rest of the space for a second partition for the Wii U.  If the Wii U requires a special partition, it should automatically pick up on it when you plug it in.

Hopefully they do allow partitions to be used. In fact does anyone know if its even possible to NOT allow partitions to be used? Maybe they'll have no choice in the matter.

I remember before the original Wii came out they said they were going to allow it, thanks to DQX, they're technically correct. Just 6 years too late!

Thanks for the episode guys. It's always fascinating to hear from people who actually live in Japan.

special praise to Minoru from bringing that extra perspective on the Land of the rising sun.

Great to have that Capcom guy back on the show again.

Superb song choices particularly DKC Boss music.

Not a major concern really, but given the choice I'd rather shorter episodes that appeared more frequently but I don't want to sound ungrateful.

Oh, and more DQ X talk please!

Thanks again guys, already looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for the comments!
I'd love to be able to do more shows, but even shorter episodes would require planning, so in the end it's just twice or four times more work/time needed on our behalf - something I myself don't have to give more of unfortunately!

Hopefully at least one member of the crew will pick up DQX in August, I know Matt at the very least will be (AKA Capcom guy), so look forward to Famicast 15! :)

Correction.
The guy in commercial 3 is not Terry Ito, who is not a comedian but a TV producer/director, which is another correction. The guy is Tokoro Joji, a musician and comedian.

I'm starting to feel like the Village Idiot or the Village Straight Man.  Maybe I'll sneak my way into the next live one.

Good episode overall.  I found the different perspective on E3 nice.  Most of my comments are on twitter with the #famicast13 hashtag.

I guessed exactly one song right. I'm slipping!

Anyways, great episode as always, guys. It's always pleasant to find another episode on the feed, and it was doubly nice to have one this length. Glad the entire crew got in on the action this time, even if not all at once. Next month's episode is going to be so odd without James, though...

Also, Minoru's description of Tokyo Jungle was epic. I'm torn between wanting to play it, and wanting to destroy every copy ever made...

There were 2 or 3 semi-easy songs in there, but most of the others were quite hard. Also don't feel bad for not getting the dubstep ones!

I think Minoru's Tokyo Jungle bit was one of the best parts of any episode we've ever done! ;D

I think Danny's a bit nervous about hosting the next episode, but that could be because I said if he messes it up he's never allowed back on ever again. :P:

That's why Danny should go with Boy Bands.  Do a BIG send off.

Then go play Cubivore instead ;)

But Cubivore doesn't have the ...best?... parts about Tokyo Jungle!
I'm talking about the realistic setting, of course
