TalkBack / Re: NES And SNES Switch Online Adding New Games February 19
« on: February 12, 2020, 03:39:49 PM »
I own the popular NES/SNES titles 16 different ways. I really like that this service is introducing me to hidden gems that I definitely would not have otherwise played, let alone paid for. For me, these services are making smart moves.

Lame. This should remain exclusive. So Nintendo funds the creation of this work of art, only for Platinum to demand multi-platform release on competitors machines. Not cool, Platinum.

I played it back on Wii U. It was good.

Thanks I did pick it up (physical copy) and I’m super impressed. Keep in mind that 10/10 doesn’t necessarily represent a perfect game. Some sites consider best in genre to merit a 10 score. This game for multiple reasons could be considered the best title around for the pinball genre.

I too noticed in the demo that the voice acting doesn’t sound like the original actors. Not that it’s bad, but it is distracting, almost to the point that I would prefer to turn off the voice acting. Is that an option? Also, the screenshots seem to indicate TATE mode support, but can you confirm? Lastly, I know a physical release is incoming. When does that release?

You need to re-score this game appropriately to restore some credibility, and fast.

Oh and from now on, you’re on review score probation and all your reviews will need to be peer reviewed prior to publishing.

Nice video but... what about the real answer? Wonder Red and Spring Man, obviously.

Oof. This sounds almost all bad. I have this game pre-ordered, but I’m starting to second-guess whether it’s for me or not.

Maybe this will force devs to treat undocked mode a little more seriously? As a primarily docked Switch gamer though, this worries me that undocked mode optimizations will begin to take precedence over docked mode. That, and the fact that this ruins the Switch branding, make me very disappointed that this product exists.

This could be really cool!

I for one, have many amiibos, and I’m sad that they won’t be used for unlocking characters in this game. Why?

I think 7 is a fair score, although I wouldn’t call this a “sloppy port.” Granted, I have never played the original, but the visuals pop nicely, the framerate is a steady 30fps from what I’ve seen, including in multiplayer, and the game is a blast. The port seems quite serviceable to my novice eyes.

TalkBack / Re: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (PS4) Impressions

I’m seeing troubling reports (and videos) suggestions that this game runs like hot garbage on the Switch, with lag, buggy animations, and seriously downgraded visual effects in addition to the requisite 30fps framerate drop. Probably best to stick with the PS4 version if you have the option.

I’ll post this comment in both reviews: Which one do I believe? The scores for Eevee and Pikachu are wildly different, coming from different reviewers but from the same media outlet. This is rough!

I agree with this article. Excited to purchase Diablo III on Switch. Never played it on any other system, though I was intrigued. Now that it’s portable and a well-executed port of a respected game, I’m all in.

I only own one of these games presently (Graceful Explosion Machine), and I heartily recommend it, especially at that discount.

This list is quality. Also, I don’t think any of these games are hinted at getting a physical release, so I can buy guilt-free. Thumper, Lovers, GoNNER, here I come.

Wow. This outlet handed out the lowest score for this game currently on Metacritic. Ouch.

I have been patiently awaiting Rive on Switch ever since the demo became available on the Wii U. Now that it’s finally out, I’m absolutely loving it. The difficult is punishing though, and at the moment I’m stuck at a boss late in the game in which I must have died 50-80 times in a row before finally calling it quits. But I will beat this game!

Podcast Discussion / Re: Episode 545: Gangsta-Ass Console

I know the RFN crew likes to pitch themselves as amateurish faux-podcasters, but I have test drove so many other Nintendo podcasts, and nothing comes close to RFN. That was true during the Jonny Metts days, and is still true with James at the helm. Love the humor, the camaraderie amongst the cast, the critique of older games in depth, the extensive collective knowledge of Nintendo history, and on and on. Just want you four to know that nothing else compares to RFN. Hope it continues forever!

Never owned a FIFA game before, but the videos I've seen of this look very fun and I'm grateful for the 60fps presentation. Genuinely considering buying this one, as I feel EA put a solid effort into this custom build, but I'll wait to see how it reviews.

John, this is a very well-produced video. I just happened across this and will definitely watch the others in the series. Nice to hear from a real fan of Nintendo's innovation. You speak the truth. It's not about being a fanboy, it's about recognizing history and Nintendo's (continued) importance in this industry due to their continual innovation, even if they aren't in the #1 spot. This is especially true for input methods (controllers). I hope big N rebounds eventually. This industry would be in a world of hurt real fast if Nintendo weren't around to innovate.
