The new Spectator mode lets you watch and bet on other people's online matches.  Yeah, on the Wii.

 Super Smash Bros. Brawl continues to establish itself as an online experience with features you'd expect in a PC or Xbox 360 game, certainly far beyond anything yet seen on Wii.  The newest announcement is Spectator mode, in which you can watch Wi-Fi matches of anonymous players from around the world.  As you play your own online matches, you have the option of allowing spectators, which means that data from your battle will occasionally be recorded by Nintendo's servers.  Spectator mode will continuously play back matches collected from players in this way.  The feature acts like a global sports channel, as everyone in Spectator mode will see the same match being played at any given time.    

You aren't just limited to watching, though.  Prior to each match, you'll have the opportunity to bet coins on which player you think will be the winner.  Naturally, a correct guess will be rewarded with some multiple of the coins that were bet.  As of this writing, the purpose of gold coins has yet to be announced.

The developers better be capturing all these features in easy-to-reuse software packages, because once this hits the bar for online Wii games will be set much higher.....

Oh MASSIVE. We're gonna be betting money on this one drunk at home. Real money, not coins rubbish.

How epic would it be if nintendo published complete breakdowns of all statistics. What characters are most used etc for the ENTIRE ONLINE SERVICE HISTORY?! Like they have that spreadsheet thing for your local matches but image that one online, with breakdowns for every stage! I'd spend days just analysing that, Smash Broads losers will cry at the levelness of the default ruleset.

I think SSBB is becoming too massive and technically advanced for Wii, they should port it over to PS3 so they can use the HDD and Bluray.

SSBB is already on the verge of getting an "M" rating due to gambling elements, we wouldn't want to push it with voice chat.
But they should include real-time damage like Fight Night.

Ahahahaha, you seem to forget the "online game experience may change " disclaimer that comes with every game.

But its nice to see Nintendo endorsing gambling through their games. For those of us who aren't hooked already it will be a short period of temptation.
