God, I hope this whole thing fails. I'm not interested in buying useless junk to play videogames. The world would have been so much better off if Skylanders failed miserably. The thing is this is easy money if it works and Nintendo will dive in head first into shoehorning this garbage into any game they can.
I realize that Nintendo and I are so far apart now in values that I find I'm rooting for like 75% of their endeavours to fail. It's like everything will go back on track once Amiibo, the Wii U, gimmicky control schemes and focusing on casual users all lose Nintendo a lot of money and they have to change or die. Of course I've been openly rooting for microtransactions, always-online, free-to-play, and mobile games in general to fail miserably as well so there are a lot of current trends in the industry as a whole that I'm against. The videogame industry is changing, in my mind for the worst as most of it seems very unfriendly to consumers, and it's frustrating because it feels like it can't be stopped. For every sane person that refuses to participate there are five drooling idiots happy to part with their money.
The future - you never own the game, you get charged separately for every little feature, the game is of the absolute bare minimum quality it needs to be to make a profit and it's on a platform that is so limited in control options that making a great game is near impossible anyway.
When you were a kid did you think "boy I wish features in Super Mario Bros. 3 were hidden unless I bought a toy to unlock them"? No of course not so why would you embrace such an obvious scam now?
