I don't think I would define any corporation as being "good."

Guys, we know that many of us hate GameStop with a passion, but now it is getting out of control, bringing up politics and insult our home states. Cut it out.

One last thing about fingerprints. If you ever want a gun legally, you need to be fingerprinted.

Maybe in YOUR state. Here in New Hampshire (Texas of New England), we don't have such fancy shenanigans getting in the way of OUR second amendment rights.

Edit: Watch the language. There's no need for it in ANY kind of discussion.

I know VG Chartz isn't the most reliable of sources, but even with ballparking recent numbers, Goldeneye has posted almost twice the number of sales on the Wii than Blood Stone across two platforms.

I should probably rephrase "tanked" to "didn't perform anywhere near as well as Goldeneye, and I'm not sure why Activision thought it would."

It also helps to have a recognizable brand name like James Bond and Goldeneye, but I can see why that would be overlooked.

How much of it is James Bond and Goldeneye, and how much of it is Activision's hueg marketing budget?

I get the feeling that quite a few people playing the new Goldeneye could barely even hold a controller when the original came out, much like Call of Duty.

Blur IS a kart racer. You race through events with between 9 and 19 other racers, pick up powerups on the track that do various things (long range homing attack, series of three straight-line "bolts" to spin out your opponent, etc.), of course with some "modern twists" thrown on, namely that as you race, you go up in rank, which unlocks new cars and what they call mods, which modify either the performance of your car or your powerups, for instance making it so any time you drop a powerup on the track (as opposed to using it, just ditching it), it drops a decoy powerup, or just making it so that your car takes less damage from other people's powerups.

It's a ridiculously fun game. I spent about 24 hours just playing the demo on Xbox Live before the game came out. One of the interesting things about it is that it has a pretty solid learning curve. If you just jump into ten-player matches, you can usually do pretty well, but 20-player matches are crazy and winning (if you're insanely lucky, if you're just lucky, you might get top 3) takes some serious maneuvering, knowledge of the track, and strategic powerup use.

I know they put the demo back up on Xbox Live after release in an attempt to drive sales. Not sure about PSN or if it's still up on either, but honestly I would recommend that anybody who enjoys kart-racing style games with powerups check it out in some capacity.

And yeah, I know that they didn't SAY anything about Blood Stone, but you really think that this coming out two weeks after the game tanked both in terms of review scores AND sales is a coincidence?

It's BS because Blur was awesome, and the only reason they're getting closed now is because Blood Stone tanked.

WHAT? You mean when we make a racing game developer develop a third-person action shooter James Bond game with no movie tie-in, IT DOES POORLY?

Also, I don't think that half a million sales for a BRAND NEW IP which is basically Realism: The Kart Racer is that terrible. I feel like Activision is used to sales like Call of Duty, and if something sells less than a million, they think something is wrong. 500k is respectable for a no-name game from a no-name company. I love Blur, but I feel like not enough people got exposed to it.

If you think the Wii's successor will come out any time before Holiday 2012, you're pretty much delusional, and apparently have also not paid any attention to the history of the various consoles' announce and release schedules. Just because they're launching the 3DS at an odd time of year doesn't mean they'll do the same with their next home console, especially considering they probably won't even announce it until E3.

61
And no local multiplayer.

62
I actually had a discussion with a guy I work with and we basically both agreed that the Wii section of IGN specifically was pretty good up until the point that Matt left. I had issues with some of the things that Matt said, but really he was a pretty good reviewer, and he ran a damn tight ship at IGN Wii. After he left though, it just went to crap like the rest of everything.

63
So Goldeneye for local, Call of Duty for online?

Alternatively, I could save $50 and just wait for Conduit 2, which will have both.

EDIT: IGN confuses me. I hear that this is better than The Conduit, but IGN gave this a 7.5 and The Conduit an 8.6. Maybe it's because The Conduit came first. With any luck, Conduit 2 will be a 9.

Call me crazy, but I feel like I would much rather Warren Spector work on something original than another Disney project after Epic Mickey.

You're probably jerking your hand when you fire, just like people do with real guns, which is the primary cause of missing shots in real life.

66
That is a good point. I was thinking more about the multiplayer than the single-player though. I wonder if the online functionality will be any better in Call of Duty than Goldeneye.

Actually, now that I think about it, what if that was their general plan? Market Goldeneye for local multiplayer and Call of Duty for online multiplayer.

Not quite. Square Enix has openly said that the mainline Final Fantasy games go to the system with best graphics

Which clearly explains their huge boner for the PS2.

68
I'm kind of confused as to why anybody would even consider buying both this and Goldeneye, when in terms of gameplay, they're completely identical.

New gameplay videos and nobody cares because they're too busy getting in bed with Activision.

I know that it didn't happen for everybody or anything. But it happened for enough people that it became a noticeable problem. A problem that Bethesda steadfastly refused to fix. And that wasn't the only game-breaking bug that was hardware-dependent either. Many different configurations suffered from several different issues that all caused the game to be completely unplayable, and it wasn't a small issue either. There were a lot of people who bought Fallout 3 and then were SOL because Bethesda sucks at everything.

Fallout 3 on PC has issues but nowhere close to the amount on consoles.

Yeah no. PC version was far, FAR worse. Last I checked neither of the consoles had a freezing bug where after dealing with it freezing every couple hours or so, it gradually increased to every five steps you took.

sounds like a nice review, i knew activision would put some effort into it, since this games carries all of the fanbase of the n64 goldeneye.

Except everyone who played Perfect Dark and immediately recognized a vastly superior (multiplayer) game.

Yeah I love paying $60 for three hours of the same pointless, canon-raping nonsense that was in the first one, which was three times that length and currently about a third of the price.

But that's not even true, since the story in this one is COMPLETELY pointless and doesn't add OR subtract anything to the overall story. I wish I could say that was a good thing, given how TERRIBLE the story in the first one was, but honestly this is one of the biggest and most obvious cash-in sequels I've encountered.

It's like C-Sticking in Smash Bros or the (usually shoulder) buttons that do grabs which are typically two-button combos on traditional fighting games.

Sega just sent out a press release that says "With the overwhelming positive response at both E3 and PAX, High Voltage Software came up with new ideas and took in fan feedback. Because of this, the game is extending its development a few more months in order to bring players the most complete shooter on Wii."  Hopefully, that does mean more actual support from Sega.

Link? Not that I don't believe you, but that doesn't sound like something that gets said EVER.
