The FaceBall 2000 16 years later thread...
« on: January 20, 2008, 03:26:30 PM »
To continue the earlier <a target=new class=ftalternatingbarlinklarge href="http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=19203">FaceBall 2000[/url] thread, I'm actually (*finally*) putting together my FaceBall 2000 event.

Details are a little sketchy at this time, but here's what I'd like to do.

I'm looking at having the event March 8th and March 9th.  Fellow Nintendo Whores probably recognize that as the date Smash Bros. Brawl is going to be released.  That's important.

What'd I'd like to do is start the event around Noon or so on the 8th.  Then, around 6 PM or so, move everyone who comes for it (either from this board or people I know IRL) to my Wal*Mart where I will be (hopefully) hosting a Smash Bros. Pre-Launch event.  It'll include a small original Smash Bros. Tournament and a little bit larger Melee tournament.  Obviously, at midnight, Brawl will be released and we'll buy the game and go back to play it amongst each other and (if it'll work) online.

Here's the deal though - I'm going to look into renting a local community center.  What this means is that, if someone wants to come and sleep over (I'm sure there will be a few), if you bring sleeping bags and pillows or such, there should be sleeping room.

Of course, there will be more than just Smash Bros. and FaceBall.  I fully expect there to be many, many DSes there - and plenty of people to play them.  This includes 10 Player Tetris, 8 Player Mario Kart, 8 Player Bomberman.... If you bring it, we could play it.  Additionally, perhaps, there could be some Four Swords played (anyone want to try to play crazy Japanese Tetra's Trackers?  I have it...)  Also, perhaps, 16 Player Mario Kart: Double Dash with Four GameCubes.  Just a possibility.

I need to check into see what renting the local place will actually run.  I'm poor... and I don't want to charge an admission fee. <img src="i/expressions/face-icon-small-wink.gif" border="0">  We could probably get a nice order of Pizza fairly cheap as well, so I might take a collection for that.

I want to impress upon you all how awesome this'll be... This will probably be the first time a 16-Player FaceBall 2000 match has taken place outside of the development of the game.  While people have said the game supports 16 players, I was unable to do so with existing equipment - since I had to have it specially made, I'd almost be willing to bet that it's simply not been done before.

You could be a part of history here.  Not to mention, of course, this will totally be the multi-player gaming event of the year for Carmi, Illinois.

So... let me know if you're seriously interested in coming.  I'm not at all looking to limit the number of people who come to 16... the more, the merrier.  But it'll be fun.

I asked the wife. She said she's fine with me leaving for the weekend for it. It's a six or seven hour drive for me. I don't know how much I could pony up for a community center admission though. That will depend on if taxes are done by then or if I have any big jobs finished.

I'd love some multi-player action though. I really want to bring the 360 and link up a couple of others on some tvs. Even split screen would be fine. Oh, or the N64 and some Conker and Goldeneye. Ah yeah, sniping frenchies.

Ok, here's a list of games I have and would like to play some multiplayer with. This in no way means that I'll be unhappy if none get played. Its just a thought I'm throwing out because I haven't had an opportunity like this before. I have an adapter for composite (RBG) to coaxial if that helps with the number of TVs available. And I have a 4 port hub not in use that can be brought.

Wii Sports (how can I forget that one?)

Halo (1 -3) (system link or split screen)
Gears of War
Perfect Dark Zero

Mario Kart Double Dash (system link or split screen, I have a network adapter on my cube)
Timesplitters 2

Goldeneye
Conkers Bad Fur Day
WCW/NWO Revenge
Perfect Dark
Mario Kart 64

And there's always the PC with Counter Strike over LAN option.

I don't have many DS games. Planet Puzzle League, Super Mario and Brothers In Arms.

Yay, I'm excited!

I'd love to come, but the timing probably won't work for me.

I'm taking three classes this semester (I usually only take two, but I want to hurry up and graduate this semester), plus I work full time and I just started another business in August.  Between the three, I'm swamped.

If my Canadian friend manages to come, he'll have two more GameCubes, two more BBAs and two more copies of Mario Kart: Double Dash, giving us four.

Ceric - you're not thinking right - you don't use GBAs for Four Swords - you use GameCubes + Game Boy Players + TVs.  Something we could probably do.

You're going to ruin the perception that we have friends outside of the Intertubes.

Yes, we can't let 16 copies of Faceball go to waste. I am still psyched. But you should extend an invite to Gabe and Tycho. I bet they've never seen a 16 player Gameboy game before.

Good news everyone!
I've found an office building that rents out its basement. It's got seaperate bathrooms, a kitchen (stove, microwave, fridge) and moveable partiton/walls. I'm going tomorrow to check it out (I'll take some  pics) and make sure it'll work, but my wife has catered there before and says it should work well. Although, as usual, I'm strapped for cash, it's apparently only $50, even for a noon-to-noon rental overnight.  This is gonna be loads of fun. And loads of Faceball.

If you go through with the rental you should let the cops know in case they patrol the area at night, if the owners don't take care of it for you.

Make sure to make note of the electric outlets. I'd want to know if I need to bring any power strips or extension cords.

And another thing. We should have some ground rules regarding smoking and drinking. I don't do either, and I don't care if people who are of age have enough drink to buzz as long as they are spending the night, but I hope that the smokers will be kind enough to step outside if its not already a rule for the office space.

I don't think the cops will be a problem... we're a small town.

I will be checking out the outlet situation when I go tomorrow...  I've got three surge protectors, so I *should* be set, but you never know.

As for smoking or drinking - neither is allowed on the premises.  Not only is this a rule for renting the place, but smoking is outlawed in "Public" buildings in Illinois.  I don't know what the weather is going to be like come March, but if you're a smoker, dress warmly.

Okay, if, *if*, you may possibly come... like, if there's a greater than 0% chance you could come, shoot an e-mail to faceball2000@verizon.net so I can get you added to my news and mailing list and keep everyone informed.

Oh, I should warn you... the FaceBall game itself is... well... not very good.  I mean, it's a FPS for the original Game Boy - don't expect a lot out of it.  It's still going to be lots of fun, but no getting mad at me when you drive 14 hours to play the game...

Since it's an 8-9 hour drive for me, coming up the day of probably wouldn't be a good plan (unless I want to get there all late and crap). Then again, I teach on Friday until 4:30pm, so I wouldn't be able to leave till late. So...

Between Lincoln, NE and Carmi, are you aware of any good places/cities you could recommend that I stop and stay over (preferrably one with cheap-yet-not-crappy hotels)? Then I could do half the drive on Friday, then finish it on Saturday morning to get there all punctual-like and with plenty of time for much game-playing.

How could I say now to 16 player Faceball?

You guys don't really know me very well, but I lurk on the forums occasionally, and got to partake in at least one game of Mafia.  I think this would be a pretty fun event.  I need to get more involved in this community, so I can retire from the zealots over at infendo.com

Okay - anyone who's coming - I've got some issues (well, that should be apparent by now...)

Anywhoo, At this time, I need six Game Boy Color/Advance/SP/Players.  There are issues with the older Game Boys/Pockets and they won't work.

Second, my Canadian guy has fell through.  I think he's afraid to cross the border because of drug related charges here in the US or something.  So I'm looking for people who are coming that can bring their GameCube and copy of Mario Kart: Double Dash.  Extra if you have a BroadBand Adapter (which will be necessary as well)...

Let me know if you can come through!

well if I see anything cheap at the local game store, I'll pick it up, but no promises.  i'm buying a house (and HDTV) this week, so i'm a bit strapped for cash.

is the event still on if you don't get your supplies?

The event is still on - I can't believe there won't be at least 6 Game Boy Color/Advances that people can bring with them for the FaceBall.  We'll still have tons of DSes there for DS gaming.  Still have GBAs for Four Swords and 2 Game Cubes for 8-Player Mario Kart.  Still want to play Brawl in groups.  It'll still be fun. :)

Any particular reason why you won't be able to come?  There will be sleeping arrangements (Bring your own pillow/sleeping bag/blanket - you're sleeping on the floor) and very possibly food provided (dunno about that, it might cost too much).

GBA is great.  Original Game Boys don't work (trust me, I have six and I've tried them all) - neither do Game Boy Pockets.  Don't worry about bringing them.

Bring your Game Cube/Mario Kart/BBA and controllers.  That'd be great.  And an Ethernet cable. :)  We still need one more GameCube/Mario Kart.  If you don't have a BBA, I'll still take you as a volunteer, because I might be able to get an extra BBA for the day.

Also, anyone with GameCubes/Game Boy Players - we can use those to fill in for the missing six Game Boys.  And it can make more fun for stuff like Four Swords/Four Swords Adventures.

I'll bring my hub/router that'll get the job done.  Unfortunately, there won't be internet access here (unless someone has a cell-wireless air card they want to bring)... If anyone plans on bringing stuff like 360's or what not, consider bringing your own hubs or what not as well - it might be handy.

Power strips - I'm fine for my stuff - if you plan on bringing anything of your own, it's going to be highly recommended that you bring a power strip (with surge protection).

Something that hasn't come up yet - Televisions.  I'm lugging in my 37" Flat Panel (I'll have to get the stand out of the attic), a large 27" television and two small 13" TVs.  Another friend here in town might have a few TVs we can use too.  If anyone has some TVs they want to bring, it won't hurt.

Again, bring sleeping bags, pillows, etc., etc.  Also, I'm planning to have drinks on hand (soda and bottled water, of course), but I haven't committed to food yet.  I've got to talk it over with the wife and see what it's going to cost...  I'll probably grab some munchies as well.

There will be no drinking, illegal drugs or smoking.  If you do smoke, building rules (and Illinois State Law) forbids you from doing so inside the building.  It's been rather chilly here lately, so bring a warm coat.

And finally, I do hope anyone who's coming will consider buying Brawl from my Wal*Mart.  I'm working hard to make the Wal*Mart event a success (so, perhaps, I can do more such things in the future).  Ultimately, though, it doesn't matter how many people show up - it matters how many copies we sell.  Please consider me (I'll be watching the ads and trying to price match the best deal for y'all, but I can't promise anything).

With that note - bring your Wiis!  After Midnight and we all roll back in with our copies of Brawl, it'll suck to have to play four at a time.

If you don't have a Wii... well, I'm *trying* to get us some extra qty for that night.  No promises...

I've got the BBA Enabled, GameBoy Player Gamecube and Mario Kart DD, I can bring (Also FF:CC For those of you who have never played it).  I'll have to find them, I think I know where there at, but I also have a GBC, GBA, and SP.  I know off the top of my head where the GBA is and probably the Color but  I don't know about the SP.

On the TV Side I have a little not very good TV I can bring.  My big one is out (90 Pounds and the wife wouldn't like it.)  If anyone would like I could bring my PS3 W/ Eye of Judgement, I think I know where the RCA Cords are for it.  On the Flipside though I have no idea where my RCA cords are for my Wii.  I only have component so I don't know how useful it be for me to bring.

Doesn't you Wife do Catering UncleBob?  I'm good for about $30.

No SP, Gamecube, BBA, etc... I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to game systems. I'll bring my Wii and DS though.

I have a 20" tube tv I could bring.

I'm also willing to chip in fundage for the foodage.

Ceric - I've got the RCA Cables from my Wii (which is, of course, hooked up via component).  If you want to bring your Wii, then I'll have cables we can use with it.

If Ceric and Bustin brings their GCN/Mario Kart/BBAs, we're good to go (I have two of each already).  If anyone else is coming has the applicable goods, go ahead and bring it, just in case. :)

And regardless, bring your Game Boy Colors and Advances - might need them. :)

So, who all from NWR is coming?

As for food - yes, my wife does, in fact, cater. :)  That's why I gotta get with her and see what the food is gonna cost. :)

Anyone who wants to chip in on the food is welcome to.  It's not at all necessary (I'm already asking y'all to drive down here and sleep on the floor, so I'm not going to ask everyone to pay for catering)... But I won't complain. ;)

I don't want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but I was just figuring on making a Burger King run for food. Especially since we're going to be heading out to Walmart anyway. I do think finger food would be cool, but maybe fruits and veggies cause if we're sharing equipment some people may not want cheetoes powder all over their GBA.

I'm one of those 'picky' eaters. I also have a weak stomach. The long drive combined with unfamiliar food will not make a pleasant memory. If we can leave the food options open that would be terrific.

Drinks: I plan on bringing a 24 pack of Mountain Dew.

If anyone wants to be on their own for food, that's fine too. :)

Food options are quite limited here though.  We have a Subway, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Dairy Queen, a Chinese Buffet, a Domino's, a great local pizza chain called Dimaggio's and my wife's parent's place, Yesterday's Drive In.

I figure I can get some wipes for cleaning hands/controllers quickly... ;)

Aside from Subway, healthy food choices are limited.... However, if I do have my wife do some of the cooking with their catering menu, it'll be damn good.  The BBQ Pork is *awesome*.  Cheese Potatoes are extra tasty too.

If anyone is bringing soda - do you live in an area with a decent size Jewish community?  If so, let me know!  I want to see if you can score some "Passover Coke" or "Kosher Coke".  I'd be your biggest fan. :)

I have:

1-cube sorry no BBA
Couple GC controllers
Couple Gba-GC cords
Ds
LOTS OF DS GAMES

Tv wise theres my plasma which is no way in hell going on a 4 hour ride, and my 27 inch tv which is very heavy, I would prefer not to bring it but if I have to I guess I will.

I think food as in din din should be outside the place.  It allows for people to spread out and find food thats right for them, however I think snacks and drinks could be held at the center.

UB do you need any help setting up the place early in the morning sat or fri evening?   I am going and I convinced my roomie to go as well so he'd help too.

Will Walmart price match deals?  CC is giving away a 10 dollar gift card with Brawl but if you want us to get it at Walmart that is cool too.  Working at retail before I am going to go with NO they will not match a deal only a price.

The building the event will be held in is the "Farm Bureau Building".  I'll have signs up. :)

It's virtually right off "Main Street", so it'll be easy to find, once you manage to find your way to Carmi, Illinois, that is.

304 E Robinson St
Carmi, IL 62821

As for getting there early and the timing of events, here's the game plan.
I technically have the building from Noon Saturday till Noon Sunday.  Assuming no one else has rented the place for Friday/Saturday Morning, I might be able to get in Friday Night/earlier Saturday to set stuff up, but I don't know yet.  You're free to show up and help before Noon if you want, but, again, I just don't know if I'll be able to get in before noon.  At/After Noon, anyone who's there may help. :)

I figure from Noon 'till six-ish, we'll play games.  Mario Kart, DS Games, Pac Man vs., etc... And, of course, FaceBall.

About 6-ish, everyone will leave (and the doors will be locked as there will be no supervision going on at this point).  As the consensus has been to let everyone go on their own for food, y'all can go find some tasty food.  My wife's parent's restaurant will be open 'till 7:30 if you want some tasty Bar-B-Que.

Sometime between 4PM and 8PM, anyone who wants to take place in the Smash Bros. Tournament at my Wal*Mart will need to go by the store and register for a chance to be in it.  I will need to get to the store around 7-ish to start setting up.  At 8PM, the registration will be cut off and I'll start drawing names, seeding players.

Obviously, this event will run until Midnight.  Bring your DSes (sp?) to entertain you in case you don't get drawn for the tournament (there'll be 32 slots, and I'll be surprised if we actually have that many people there, so don't worry that much) and in-between matches...  I probably won't get out until 12:30-1, but I'll probably give a friend the key at this point, so you'll probably be able to go back and start playing without me.

As for buying Smash Bros. at my Wal*Mart - please do.  Even if you just return it to your local Wal*Mart later with the receipt - I won't complain. :) :) :).  The more copies we sell, the better it'll look for me and all the effort I'm putting into the event at the store... :) :) :)
As I said, whatever the best deal going on at the time is, I'm going to try to have it matched in some way for the event.  The CC Pre-order offer is off the table though, as it's way too out there... :(

Anywhoo, from Midnight 'till 10 or so (gotta leave time to pack stuff up/clean up) the next day, we'll get to game away!  Yay! :)

If you're coming, just send me a PM (and mention if you're bringing someone with you).  Thanks!

Oh, I forgot to mention... and we can plan this better the day of the event before we all leave at 6...

If we want to see about taking up a collection for pizza, the local Pizza Hut has a deal called "Pizza Mia".  I don't know if this is national or local, but it's $5 One-Topping Pizzas (you *cannot* pay extra and get more toppings though).  It's a minimum order of three pizzas, but apparently no max.  I called to see how long the special is going, and they said there's "no end" as far as they know and confirmed that even if we wanted 20 Pizzas, they'd all be $5 each.  I was thinking we could order and have the pizzas ready about Midnight/12:30 and bring them back to eat after the Wal*Mart event.  But that's just a thought - I don't know how many people will be coming, but $25-$50 should be more than enough for this, I'd say.  Keep in mind, McDonald's (the only real place for Breakfast here in town) doesn't open until 5:30, so you'll probably looking at snacks and microwaved pizza from Midnight until then as your sole source of food.

UncleBob, a lot of pizza places have price-break points for their pizzas.  For example, I organized a class pizza thing a few years ago, and magically, a second class had to be merged in with ours that day because of weather.  The end result was that with about $65, we had enough pizza for about 40 people, got drinks, and a couple people were able to leave with an entire pizza.  We used Dominos, because we knew they delivered to the school, but Pizza Hut may have a similar price-break.  Those Pizza Mias are a little smaller than a medium pizza, so those other 5-5-5 deals at other places may be a more efficient bargain, but the pizza might not taste as good.  You may want to consider calling some places and asking them about what point they might offer a break with.  With larger orders, remember that you may be able to haggle for a lower price.

thatguy - I can check into lower Pizza Prices. :)

I have FF:CC, if anyone wants to play.  I wasn't too impressed with it, personally.  I have 5 GBA/GCN connectors and a GBm/GCN connector, so that shouldn't be an issue either - although I do expect to play some Shadow Battle/Four Swords (I love that game), so we might need some extra GBA/GCN connectors.

I should be good for another GBA/GCN Connector as well if I can dig everything up.  In all actuallity FF:CC was not really a bad game it just made you repeat areas.  As I've said before if they would have just had a new bit of story each time you redid an area it be a lot better.  Maybe having it online like PSO would have helped as well.  Which reminds me PSO Complete for the Wii with no fee please.

(looks at "schedule")

Oh, man, this is going to be awesome. I haven't gotten a "crew" together for mass video game playing since I was in college (4+ years ago). I'm starting to get really excited for this. And you know, it can't come at a better time for me, either - I just signed a lease today for a new place, and it'll be my first time living alone in... ever. I'm a bit bummed out about it, but this is doing a great job of countering it :)

I got four people together once to play Crystal Chronicles, but it was hardly ideal. A shame, too, considering that when the stars aligned (we were able to see the screens of our original GBAs, and we were actually all in the game), it was pretty awesome.

Seriously, seriously can't wait for this, guys. ;D

Also, I don't know if I've mentioned, but I'll have 2 SNES units - and one SNES 5-Player adapter - So, if you have any old SNES games that you've always wanted to play 4/5 players, bring 'em.  If an old school chum comes, he's bringing a copy of NBA Jam. :)

We'll perservere.  Even if its later on a side note.  IF we play 1 minute matches w/ a minute to switch we can unlock all the characters on the dojo in 8 hours giving us 2 hours for truly free play...  I don't think thats going to happen... It seems that it was planned to the point where no matter what it's going to take you 8 hours...  I thought it  be a little different...  Off to find my gameboys...

Or you could just download a save file with all the characters unlocked.  I'm sure they'll be available by the time of the official street date.

BTW, sorry I can't be there.  Be sure to take lots of pictures and make a flickr account or something.  Maybe NWR will have an article about it!

Well, my attendance is officially questionable.  I'm sitting home from work today with a temperature ranging from 100.5 to 101.6.  I'll have to make a decision by mid afternoon and let Decoyman know whether he should come through Des Moines to get me, or just drive there by himself.

I really really want to come, and as of right now, I'm starting to feel better, but if this cold doesn't improve by this afternoon I don't think it'd be a good idea.

The snow is coming down and roads are slippery in town. Highways are probably better. I'm only on the fence about when to leave. I could leave tonight and spend the night in Cinnci. Or drive straight through tomorrow. The prediction is 14+ inches by the time the storm is over Saturday night.

Uncle Bob, how is it there?

Drew, don't come if you're sick. Your health is more important. I've been getting over a flu/cold for the past couple of weeks, still coughing and sniffling. But I over did myself a couple of times and made it worse. It would still be cool to meet you face to face, but there is always XBox Live...

Drew - I want you to come man, but if you're not feeling better, don't.  Seriously - I don't want everyone else to get sick too (most importantly, me). ;)  But, if there's the slightest chance you are feeling better, please do come. :)

bustin - the snow here isn't bad at all.  We got maybe 2 inches or so (they were saying 8-12, so I was worried).  If you're going to come, be careful.  Perhaps leaving early would allow you to get out of Dodge before the worst of it?

Something I forgot about - and I don't know where everyone's coming from, so I don't know who all this'll matter to, but this weekend is man's attempt at Time Travel.  We'll lose an hour of play as the time will mysteriously go from 1:59 AM Sunday Morning to 3:00 AM Sunday Morning. :(

I don't know if this'll play into anyone's plans when figuring the return trip...

DREW UPD8:

Temp is down to 99.5, a major improvement over this morning.  I probably can attribute that to the Tylenol Cold Multi-Symptom Magic Juice I took a few hours ago.  If I can get it to stay low (or get even lower)  without a second dose over the next few hours, then I'll tell Decoy to go ahead and make the trip to Des Moines tonight.  Otherwise, he'll be be taking off from Lincoln, NE tomorrow morning.  If I do decide to make the trip, I'll stop on the way out of town and get some of those sanitary wipes so that anything I touch this weekend gets cleaned off properly.  And I will promise not to breath close to any of you.  Except Aaron, who will be spending 8 hours in a car with me.  :)

As for Pizza - I checked around, the "best" deal for private parties (since it's not a not-for-profit thing) is Pizza Hut, - 10 1-topping Large Pizzas for $95.52 after tax.

I think the Pizza Mia's are a better deal (10 Med Pizzas for $50+tax), but we can decide what route we want to go tomorrow. :)

Up at 5:27 AM, showered and ready to go - just waiting for Decoy to finish up getting ready.

Feeling considerably better too, actually.  I think I made the right choice.

Not done  packig.  Roads are terrible.  Frustrated I can't find GBA and GBC that I saw this month and probably put somewhere where "I wouldn't forget where they were."  UncleBob due you have an RCA to Coaxial adpter?  I can't seem to find an AC adapter for mine and I gave my CUbe to Coaxial adapter to a CoWorker last year so she could be LoZ:TP.  Also no worries UncleBob I'll be happy to help you reroute cords and like.  We'll make it better, stronger, more efficient the Bionic Entertainment Center.

Edit:  Also a Intec Gamecube battery so if I could borrow one of your Mobile Monitors (Did get to pick it up in time and then they were all gone.)  We could play Melee at Wal-Mart while were in that nebulus time before the Tournament.

Alright, guys, right now I want to play someone online.  I've got the american version, and me and my roomie are looking for some team battles, 3-5 stock, whatever stages or items you like.  Let me know who's game you're playing on and the friend code, and we'll give you guys a fight, 2v2.  He's usually Olimar and I'm typically the Ice Climbers, for those interested.

Right now, we're on his Wii, and the friend code we're working with, along with game save, only has about three or four characters/stages unlocked.  It's 0817-3403-5603.  Tell me the FC and we'll play some online Brawls.

** Warning - This is a totally personal and 'all about me' post **

I drove through a blizzard to get to this event. What should have been a 6 1/2 hour drive turned into about a 12 hour drive. I spent most of it going 30 miles an hour. At the point where I told myself that I shouldn't go it was too late as so much snow had fallen behind me that it would have been worse going back than trekking forward.

Unfortunately, I didn't get to play anything when I arrived as we were preparing for food and deciding on when to get to Walmart. Once over there was alot of Smash Bros playing. But I got to play a range of games so I was happy.

The ride home was very smooth other than there was not enough sleep the night before. I about got snagged by a sheriff on the Indiana/Kentucky border, but someone faster than I blew by on the other side. They say Columbus got 20 inches of snow and it showed. The highway was clear, but the city streets were still a mess.

Here at my home town, snow still covers the roads. I don't know how much fell, but its more than I've seen before. Warmer weather is expected so all this snow will melt and turn the world into a muddy mess.

I'm glad I was able to meet some guys from the forum. UncleBob is not how I pictured, which is good. But if I had to do it again in the same conditions, I would stay home and ask to reschedule for warmer weather. Smash Bros does nothing for me. I'm sorry, but I returned it. Maybe someone will convince me otherwise someday but I'll leave my multi-player experiences to first person shooters.

Gonna keep this quick - I *just* got my entertainment center back together and I want to go to sleep...

Sadly, 16 Player FaceBall didn't work out.  We had 9 Players (two went home early, two went to sleep, 7 didn't even show up).

The event was fun though - although, if I ever do it again, I think things'll run differently (instead of having so many options that we spend half the time trying to figure out what to do, I'll have less options and try to have it all set up before hand).

Also, Pizza Hut is on my boycott list.  Me and a friend went there Friday to find out what time they closed Saturday night and was told (by the manager) Midnight.  We go to place the order Saturday and we're told they close at 11.  What the hell?  So, by the time I got off work after selling stuff and got back to the place, the pizza was cold (and I'm not a fan of re-heated pizza).

Also, as Bustin noted, the weather didn't help. :(

But it was fun. :)  And I hope to do something similar again... after all, I have to actually get the 16 Player FaceBall thing to work.

Oh, Bustin - we played some FPS... Remember FaceBall? :)

I think the event would have been better for everyone if the weather hadn't happened and we all could have gotten there at 12.  Then there would have definitely be more Other game gaming.  Which makes me think that next time maybe it be better if we don't tie it to a release.  Then we could have some events that hit a range of things and no down time.

I also wouldn't call this a MegaFailure.  The biggest problem was all involved with the weather.  Which none of us can control.

Hey, I made a photo-merge with two of Ceric's photos (since he took the shot, he couldn't be in it, so we took an extra:) ).

Glad to hear everyone made it back safe and sound. Just want to say that, even though we had weather issues, and the drive for many of us required marathon-like endurance (I spent literally an entire day in a car - 24 hours round-trip), I had an absolute blast. It was great meeting you guys, and playing tons of games. If we'd had an extra day, it would've been even better. As it was, though, I'm sttill really happy with the experience, and would do it again... after I recover from the drive. If the next one is any further away, I would have to consider flying, though;)...

I will see you guys online with Brawl after my crazy week is over... don't get too much better than me in the meantime though!

Edit: here's the pic...

It certainly wasn't a failure - I think the biggest problem (weather aside) was a lack of time.  I think a Friday-Sunday trip makes more sense than a Saturday-Sunday trip, at least with as far as some of us were driving.  I do think tying it to some kind of a release makes it fun.  But we got there at 3:30, barely had time for a few games before we were off to dinner and WalMart for the entire night, and then had only the overnight hours to really get into some gaming.  There was some good gaming the next day too, but not for very long.

So yeah, suggestions for next time from me would include:

1)  Friday evening until Sunday morning
2)  More informal tournaments amongst the group, if for no other reason than to keep the gaming a little more focused
3)  More distinct gaming setups - so that we're not switching around between systems on the different TVs.  There's a GC area, a Wii area, etc
4)  Umm... more people, I guess.

I'll second this. Not a failure, let alone a "megafailure" :P (unless you mean that the main reason this event existed was the Faceball 16-player action, because we DID literally fail in finding enough people to play 16-player faceball, so it was only 9-player).

I want to see more pics. I'll post the ones I took later on, but darkheart, break yourself away from Brawl and upload some pics! :P
