Kirby's Dreamland 3 sounds good. I still haven't finished Kirby's Adventure or Kirby 64, I don't have any Wii Points left and there's no way in hell I can come up with enough space in the fridge to hold it, but knowing me I'll probably buy it within the next week.

I have Dream Land 3 and it's a good game but it's really just another Kirby game.  Kirby Super Star was the classic SNES Kirby.

If it matters though the graphics in Dream Land 3 are nuts.  The game came out in 1997 and you won't believe it's a SNES game.

Good game.  Worth it if you like Kirby.  Unessential for everyone else.

So, how much game is Sandy Beach? Is it a non-game because it's about building sand castles? Is it a game because of CRAB BATTLE? Is it a half-game?

Just watched KDL3 videos on Youtube.  This game looks great!  Similar to Yoshi's Island.  I'll download it in the Spring when they fix the storage issue.

Yes, I've been waiting for Dreamland 3 to come out.  I never got to play the game since when it was released a lot of stores around where I am, stopped selling SNES games and so it wasn't around for too long.

I'll definitely be getting this one later tonight.

Just before Startropics 2 was released on VC, I finished Startropics 1. I was so stoked that I decided to download 2 right away. Didn't read any reviews or anything, I just downloaded. I played and loved the original, but never had a chance to try the sequel. This was my chance.

It completed downloading, and I immediately fired it up.

COULD NOT BE MORE DISAPPOINTED. That idyllic island setting of the first, the bizarre sense of humor in the writing and unique weapons, the bizarre play control... it had all combined to make an experience that just oozed personality and was, for me, simply magical. And in the second? Gone. All of it, gone.

In place of the unique island setting and a cool submarine that we got to pilot around, we are thrust jarringly into generic/stereotypical snow, desert, etc. locations that you stay in for the shortest periods of time, developing no sort of connection to any of the potentially interesting characters with the unnecessary and also-generic gimm!ck of traveling through time. Well, whoopedy-doo. Oh, wait, we get to meet "famous characters in history" like an idiotic, pizza-eating Cleopatra? DON'T CARE. Give me the bumbling-but-perseverant, raft-rowing Baboo over any any famous historical figure you could possibly think up. Instead of his famous yo-yo, Mike gets an... axe*? And mind-bullets? Excuse me, but... Huh??? Also gone are the enemies with unique patterns and behaviors... most things just weave stupidly around at you. A few shoot projectiles of condensed stupidity.

Oh, wait, control is improved? Ah, ok! I'd kinda gotten used to the quirks of the old controls, but who wouldn't be up for "improved controls?" Oh... so the new scheme takes any sort of precision out of the equation? And I'm now required, since I have "better controls," to do trickier-yet-less-precise platforming? Yay, frustration!

Sorry guys. Sometimes lightning really doesn't strike twice. It's less puzzley, more un-fun actiony... What they've done here feels forced, and completely devoid of the magic that the first one possessed.

Huge, HUGE disappointment right here. :(  :-\  :'(

* Oh, I forgot, it's Bobo's Axe, or something like that. Like that makes it all better.

The meh-ness of Startropics II might have something to do with it being one of the last NES games, and other Nintendo development houses were focusing more on the SNES at that time.

I've been playing Startropics 2 and enjoy it quite a bit, I think the humor is still quirky and quite funny. The controls are much better, boss fights are interesting still. Is it as good as the first? No mainly because it seems more streamlined but it still is a solid sequel to a great game.

Could be, True Blue... that probably makes a lot of sense, actually Regardless, I feel like a victim of bait and switch.  >:(

One of my main problems with ST2 is that it feels so generic compared to the first... oh, well. Glad you're having fun with it, GP. I think I'm actually in the minority here, judging from some other reviews I've read. But never (yes, never) have I been so disappointed in a game I was thoroughly anticipating, and whose prequel I absolutely loved.

Changing gears, has anybody heard anything about Solar Jetman? I have somewhat fond memories of that game, but there's been no word (at least as far as I know) about it appearing on VC... which is surprising, because if I recall, it received a pretty big marketing push back in the day. Is it tied up in some sort of licensing issues?

OH MY FRIGGIN GOD SOLAR JETMAN WAS MY LIFE!!!

... I also couldn't get past, like, the fourth level or something... but maybe that's why I was so obsessed with it. That was THE GAME that totally sold me on having "shops" where you could buy upgrades...

And it was also one of the games that I was forced to play "in my head" by reading and rereading Nintendo Power's maps of the levels. *sighs happily*

Dang. Just looked into it briefly... I never realized Solar Jetman was by Rare... Huh. That could be the problem. Probably the same reason we won't see Battletoads either. :'(
