After reading a review of Toki Tori I now have another 290 blocks to find before it comes out here, rumored to be next week. I believe Nintendo was right when they said it was a small group of Wii owners that were suffering from lack of blocks. Casuals either don't buy many or just buy a few VC games, and I would bet your average hardcore Wii owner doesn't buy enough to come near the 500 block mark. The thing is, given the size of these Wii Ware titles, that small group is steadily increasing with every new Wii Ware release.

You figure though that it would in Nintendo's best interest that we buy all the VC and Wii Ware titles we want.  Is it worth losing sales just because non-gamers and casuals aren't really going to be affected.  Hell the casuals probably wouldn't even care if the VC didn't exist.  Customer satisfaction is important as well.  Though you don't have to be a doormat, there is some value in addressing the issues of a sub-section of a customer base, even if their issue doesn't affect the majority.

And really it's all win-win for Nintendo money-wise.  They get more VC and Wii Ware purchases from those that are running into space issues and they potentially get to sell some sort of hardware like a hard drive which, knowing them, will be priced to be profitable.

Do those you don't have the issue get turned off if Nintendo address an issue that didn't concern them?  Not likely, providing Nintendo does it in a way that doesn't interfere with them (and I imagine it would take freakish incompetance to do that).  But they can and will lose sales and piss customers off if they don't address this.  So why not address it?

Plus the Wii has only been out for like a year and a half.  It's not like we're near the end of the Wii's life and a small sample of really hardcore gamers are running out of space.

I wasn't using it as a reason to not doing anything (and neither did Iwata, who specifically mentioned that even though the group is small it makes sense to fix the issue because that group is also the one that buys the most games); I have enough VC and Wii Ware games, channels, and saves to fill the Wii's internal memory more than twice over, I've been arguing for a hard drive for half a year now.

I personally believe that Nintendo's known it would be an issue for awhile, but the real question is where does this issue float on their sea of priorities?

The last possible point at which Nintendo could have any shred of doubt that this was a problem was when they set the file size limit for Wii Ware and then realized that there were over 100 Wii Ware games in development. Once they became aware of those two things there is no way they couldn't know it was a problem. As for priority, I don't think Iwata would have acknowledged the issue without dismissing it if they didn't intend to provide a solution.

I only need to make room for Dr. Mario and then I'm set for the foreseeable future. Even then, my N64 games are proving troublesome, but they're the ones I play the most so I'm loath to delete them.

I don't think it is as big a problem as people make it out to be, you just have to be smart about managing your games is all.

they make money on compulsive shoppers who will rebuy Mario 3 and Sonic 2 even though they have copies of them one five different systems. That being me and most of us here.

yeah, and i wouldn't mind at all if they had a damn external hard drive out there, or let me save VC games on a memory stick (you still can't do that, right?). Nintendo shouldn't be putting obstacles in my way of giving them money.

If you were a real fan you would buy a second Wii to buy more VC games on.

She did. I think Pros point is that she used to try to chart the direction of the company through what she said in her interviews to try to force the company to go where she believed she felt was right.

No. Real fans don't keep out of the hands of soccer moms and other hardcore gamers who can independently buy more games than the real fan's small incremental contribution.

Unless... if the Wii was just sitting on store shelves with tons of extra stock, then perhaps a real fan would consider it.

GameFAQs (the actual site, not one of the message boards) and Wii Ware World both have lists of what Wii Ware games are coming Monday, and they're both different. What are the odds that either of the lists is right?

GameFAQs: Dr. Mario Online RX, Everyone's Pokemon Ranch, Protothea
Wii Ware World: Dr. Mario Online RX, Toki Tori

Well, WWW's list is just games that are out in Europe already, seems more likely.

You could look at it that way, or you could look at as Wii Ware World playing it safe, whereas GameFAQs could be seen as either guessing randomly or picking unusual choices because they know something. I would be fine with either list, Toki Tori and Protothea are my two most anticipated Wii Ware games.
