New Nintendo eShop Apps Revealed
« on: October 21, 2011, 10:55:52 AM »

Four new applications surface for the 3DS eShop service.

The Nintendo 3DS eShop is gearing up to throw four unique titles our way over the next few months.

First up in November is Freakyforms: Your Creations, Alive! - an art-based exploration game that lets you create creatures and bring them to life. Freakyforms will sell for $6.99 USD, and is due out on November 10 in Europe and November in North America. This appears to be the game known as Pictures Lives, which was at E3 2011 and is already out in Japan.

Next is Pushmo, known as Pullbox, in PAL regions. With a mix of puzzle and platforming elements, you must solve over 250 3D mazes by pushing and pulling boxes to climb up and reach the goal. It also contains a level editor allowing you to share your own puzzles. This will launch in December, with no price set yet.

Third, Swapnote answers the prayers of many 3DS owners by allowing messaging between friends over both StreetPass and SpotPass. The app, called Nintendo Letter Box in PAL regions, will allow handwritten messages in 3D, as well as picture and video attachments. This will also launch in December as a free app.

Finally, Dillon's Rolling Western is a kind of 3D tower defense game, featuring an armadillo character in the old west defending his town by rolling over enemies. This game is slated for a Q1 release in the new year.

Stay tuned as we bring you more details on these titles as they emerge.

Finally, a message app! Now we can at least coordinate some multiplayer with our Friends List. I have accumulated over 60 friends since launch and have not played a multiplayer match in anything due to this limitation.

I was a little surprised to find that the 3DS doesn't have PictoChat of any kind, not even the original DS version. With the expanded communication features of the 3DS, I don't know why they didn't make a PictoChat that can be used over the Internet or StreetPass and whatnot, so hopefully Swapnote is a decent alternative.

Yea, nintndo is that stupid.
the only reason netflix is on the 3DS, is that Netflix made it.
As for chating and pic or video swap, NINTENDO MUST PROTECT theCHILDREN.
Even though the original pictochat was line of sight about 30Yrds basically,
News reports said pedifiles  were using pictochat to abduct children. WOW
Even though u get assulted by filthy mouthed 13yr olds on XBL, and PSN allows kids too
only Nintendo gets attacked for this NONPROBLEM.
Cause kids play Nintendo and only adults play XBOX and PLAYSTATION. U know that.
right?  :@

The problem was pictochat was so limited. They had to be in the room ready to chat and did you. I don't think it's even possible to accidentally jump into pictochat, I guess some kids maybe used it to draw but I think it's fairly unlikely.

The games sound good, and the chat ap is what I was hoping for. Zack your getting some 3D porn and dino pics when this ap is ready!

The real problem is that Nintendo is too main stream!! They pay too much attention to what EVERYONE wants instead of what actual gamers want. I never thought Nintendo would sink so low as to approve of SHREK, but of course, I was disgusted to see it on the Nintendo eshop's front page!!DXX And yet somehow they're too preoccupied to even notice how many portable devices support YouTube! Almost every type of portable device I have seen has had YouTube support, and I've always seen my cousin with his. I always thought that the next generation Nintendo handheld would obviously have YouTube support in some way, but no. I mean, I even get emails from Nintendo saying "find us on YouTube" on the bottom of the emails! This is just insanity. Maybe Nintendo will come to their senses next year....

Nintendo wants to control any content that appears on their systems. They made a dumb (and arrogant) excuse at GDC when announcing the Nintendo Video channel about how they would select the quality content so that you don't have to sort through everything, but the fact is they don't want content that they can't control. We may see something YouTube-like once they enable 3D video recording, but I'd be surprised if it was connected to YouTube itself. Note how the Facebook sharing on DSi was one way, and that it's not even available on 3DS.
