Miyamoto admits development of a Pikmin title.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/newsArt.cfm?artid=16390

During Nintendo's E3 developer Q&A event, Shigeru Miyamoto admitted that Nintendo is developing a new Pikmin game. He did not divulge any further details on the title, nor did he specifically confirm which platforms it would be released on.

When asked about the possibility of a new Pikmin game, Miyamoto briefly discussed working with multiple teams on multiple projects before breaking the news.

"We're making Pikmin," he said, offering nothing further.

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

He's above the system.

Anyway, I have a boner for this and I haven't even seen it yet. I don't care if it is Wii or DS, I WANT IT NOW.

Well as someone who is not a big Pikmin fan I can't say I am looking forward to it. But I will say that just because I don't care for the series I'm glad others are getting something they like. Sadly it appears few people can acknowledge that about a game they are not interested in, but instead insult the intelligence of those people.

So anyway it is good news for some traditional gamers.

There is no Nintendo sequel that I would rejoice over more than this.  But this isn't enough info for me.  It gives me hope sure but it's not enough.  This could be on the DS and I want it on the Wii.  It could be a spin-off.  It could be altered for non-gamers.  It could be farmed off to some B-team.  It could be a remake.  So I want to see it first.  I want to hear impressions.  I want confirmation that it's what I actually want.  A few years ago "we're working on this" was good enough but not anymore.  I'll admit it makes me a bit giddy if I think too much about it but I've got to stay grounded.  I don't trust Nintendo anymore so I have to wait and see.

Isn't it interesting that instead of asking about what was shown all the gaming media outlets are asking Nintendo about stuff that wasn't revealed?  The questions have pretty much been "where's the good stuff?"

Hasn't Pikmin always had a more casual side to it? Management is simple and anyone can play it. Now to get good at it you need to practice and think, but it isn't like the game was ever a "hardcore" game going by its gameplay design.

While I do love Pikmin Series, but as of late it seems more and more like they are just wanting to anger its base. Sort of like the exec's are around the table and trying to find ways to say **** you in more unique ways to the base that kept with them.

They will probably screw it up somehow and make it super easy and only carry 5 pikmin around because soccer moms will think the game is confusing. They will go and use Atari 2600 graphix because realistic graphics are not friendly to casual 90 year old gamers. And it will release in October 2009 and have a piece of plastic attachment that looks like a pikmin flower that does nothing, and require balance board to walk no nunchuck you need to run like in real life and waggle the controller to do anything.

Nintendo will find a way to screw this up, just wait and see. They don't give a **** about hardcore gamers anymore they only care about girl gamers, children and elderly.

Wii has become the console of 3-12 year olds, Girls and 35-100 year olds. If your 13-35 the games are not coming for you.

damn this E3 i had so much hope, and now I wonder how much I'll get for my Wii if I trade it in.....

::rolls eyes:: Do you guys realize how childish you are sounding? Dang that Nintendo for screwing up Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3, Zelda: TP, and Smash Brothers Brawl. They obviously hate the wannabe hardcore gamers. I mean that makes perfect sense to go out of your way to insult a chunk of your user base. Nintendo is plotting everyday how to destroy them!

Also I love the sexist comments thrown in as well. Does it challenge your manhood that females are getting drawn into gaming? Give me a break. This hysteria is beyond childish, and makes me quite ashamed unfortunately.

Where's the faith? This is Miyamoto's baby. And just like Mario, it's going to be fantastic. You love this series, you should be ecstatic.

You do realize that in the last year Nintendo has released, Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem, Battalion Wars, Mario Galaxy, Smash Bros Brawl and Mario Kart all on the Wii.  And is releasing next week in Japan Wario Land Shake, the first Wario Land game in 7 years, as well as publishing Fatal Frame 4 from Tecmo which they funded the entire development of.

Since you are one of the few sane people left now on the boards, I'm not going to debate what hardcore means, especially since it is so subjective. I guess a better word is less complexity in controls, unlike other strategy games. Regardless, me am tired :).

Fire Emblem.

Yep that is the one I thought of along with F-Zero. Maybe Earthbound but since I haven't played it that is only a guess. And Animal Crossing because nothing says hardcore like a game that even though you play the heck out of it, you can never beat it!

Hasn't Pikmin always had a more casual side to it?

I dunno... that final boss in Pikmin 2 kicked my scrawny behind like few others have. So many dead Pikmin littering the battlefield... the horror... Not to mention those levels where the tripods/gun turrets send you crouching behind those few metal barriers for cover.

My daughter won't play it... the second a red bulborb starts chowing down on even one of her cute little Pikmin, she leaps for the Reset button. (She's 13...and complained that Burton's Sweeny Todd "wasn't bloody enough.")

I still don't own a Wii, but Pikmin 3 might push me over the edge; the only game that's come as close in the hype department for me is Brawl.
