TalkBack / Re: Kirby and the Rainbow Curse E3 Hands-on Preview
« on: June 10, 2014, 05:54:56 PM »
Canvas Curse is the only Kirby game I've ever liked.  Couldn't be more excited for this one!

It's probably just another Rabbids game or something completely uninteresting.  On a happier note, if you haven't yet picked up ZombiU for some reason, it's only $10 brand new at Bestbuy.com right now.

TalkBack / Re: Mario Maker to be Revealed at E3?
« on: June 06, 2014, 03:17:47 AM »
I'd be surprised if this turned out to be true.  If anything, I thought Nintendo might try to make a Minecraft clone rather than a LittleBigPlanet one.  Seems like the Mario tile sets would be somewhat limiting too.

One thing seems certain though: Nintendo will not likely go into this holiday without a big Mario title on one of its systems.

Well, after spending 6+ hours with online races, both randoms and tournaments, a 7.5 score is absolutely insane.  Especially in light of a 10 for an interminable cakewalk like Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Great episode - I love predictions!  I wonder if Nintendo will show another HD remake.  I thought perhaps the Mario Galaxy games might get a re-release since there doesn't seem to be any other Mario games on the horizon for either the Wii U or 3DS.  I'd be happy with that or maybe an HD Kid Icarus Uprising.

TalkBack / Re: Nintendo Figurine Platform for NFC Figures Announced
« on: May 08, 2014, 07:56:02 AM »
I can totally see Nintendo wasting 30 minutes of their digital event talking about this. Ugh.

I'm not singling you out, as I don't know you well enough to do so, but I must say that the former hardcore Nintendo fan (again, I can't say this is you as I don't know you well enough, so don't think I'm talking about you) turned "I am going to rag and bitch and moan and be obnoxiously negative about every facet of Nintendo now" is without a doubt the most annoying group in gaming right now to me.

To be fair, that annoying group in gaming you describe could be applied to several staff members appearing on NWR podcasts.  While NFC doesn't really do much for me, it sounds like a great way to expand into the toys business and I'm surprised to learn it will apply to several titles across both Wii U and 3DS.

TalkBack / Re: Comparing Wii U's Sales to GameCube, Wii
« on: April 22, 2014, 06:39:44 PM »
The author knows that Wind Waker released in March 2003 on Gamecube, right?  That might have something to do with higher sales that month.  It also cost $149, which is still over $100 cheaper even after adjusting for inflation.

Nobody would argue that Wii U is a success, but if you're going to write a story on sales, provide a bit better-researched background information.

I hope you're right about an Aug/Sep date for X, but Nintendo has slotted an RPG or strategy RPG in February the past 2 years with success (Fire Emblem and Bravely Default).  The ONLY game I really want to play for Wii U is X, so I hope it's this year, but I'm skeptical, especially since it doesn't even have a release date in Japan yet.

So what were the new courses like?  Was there much evidence of rubber-banding?  Did the blue shell show up a lot?  I felt like MK Wii was really cheap in the 1p mode, while MK 7 was way more balanced (you could get ahead and stay ahead), so when I read that 8 plays just like Wii and 7, I'm left scratching my head just a bit.  Could you provide some more detail?

I think the sales of the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remake will be instructive as to how much love for the franchise still exists, not Lightning Returns.

Not sure how old you guys are, but the big idea to have Nintendo characters in EA sports games was done on Gamecube - playable Mario, Luigi, and Peach in NBA Street 3 and an unlockable Super Punch-Out in Fight Night Round 2.  My guess is that if this really worked to boost sales, it would have continued.  The only instance I can think of where lending characters out made an appreciable difference was the Gamecube version of Soulcalibur II.

Paper Mario: TTYD is only a wild card!  I hope it gets the votes it deserves - by far my favorite of the Paper series.

TalkBack / Re: Mario Kart 8 Due Out in May Worldwide

I would doubt X for the fall except for the fact that the "new title by MONOLITHSOFT" continues to be listed as a 2014 release for all regions.  I read, or heard, somewhere that it was being localized alongside development.  It was done for Pokemon X/Y, so it's not beyond the realm of possibility.

I hope Nintendo has some major VC or other releases planned for March & April.  With Platinum's luck, Bayonetta 2 is going to get released to compete against Titanfall and Infamous Second Son.

Much respect to Zach on the Earthbound discussion.  I never played it on Super NES, so the Wii U was first time.  I too suffered through the awful, awful battles and kept wondering what I was missing.  I wish I had given up after a few hours instead of getting nearly to the end.  Get me Final Fantasy II/III, Chrono Trigger, and Secret of Mana instead.

The 3DS slowdown could be seen as troubling, but doesn't its sales rate simply match the GBA's?  It appears the Nintendo DS and Wii were not the norm - they were the outliers from the usual trends.

I hope you guys give the Bravely Default demo another chance.  Once I realized a couple of battles in that you need to go into BP deficit right away with your party to win made it much easier to manage.  The town management aspect is like streetpass Actraiser and I found the graphics, music, and job system a lot of fun.

Maybe I've missed it, but how has nobody mentioned Reggie wearing the Samus Aran lapel pin while appearing with an employee of Retro Studios.  They even talked about it with Keighley!  That's pretty big news, even though there was no official confirmation yet.

43
I thought Reggie wearing the Samus Aran lapel pin while appearing with an employee of Retro Studios would have gotten a headline on NWR.  That's much more important than Cranky Kong!

A nicely-written review; thank you.  Any impressions of the Nights into Dreams content?  That's what has me most interested in the game, and I haven't read mention of it in any site's reviews.  Was it made available to you?

Daan - did you ever change the control options?  I ask because in the N.A. demo, you could change the configuration so that the longer you hold the 'X' button, the larger the unite morph you want to use becomes.  You just had to switch leaders to switch weapons.  I found it much easier to use than either drawing or using the right analog.  It might be worth trying.

I'd argue that Iwata's HAL roots have already been given their due: Epic Yarn, Return to Dreamland, Collection (which inexplicably had much more thought put into it than the Super Mario Bros one), one of the few 3D classics, plus the release of 3 games on Wii U virtual console already.

Nintendo Kart, on the other hand, is a concept that does need to happen.

Works for both eshop and physical purchases, including the Fire Emblem bundle from back in January.  Seems simple enough:

Well this explains why there was a Club Nintendo code in the Atlus unboxing video last week - I thought that was odd at the time.  I guess the $30 code will be redeemable similar to when you purchase VC games through Club Nintendo (?).  This is fantastic news!

These games came with a buy 2, get 1 free promotion in Japan a week or two ago.  We may get something similar, seeing as Nintendo is not opposed to running VC sales over here any longer.
