PREVIEWS: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D
« on: June 20, 2010, 06:02:25 AM »
One of the best titles of all time is heading to NintendoÂ’s new portable.
 http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/previewArt.cfm?artid=23458

The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has long been praised as one of the best games of all-time, and for good reason, too. Not only was it revolutionary for its time, but it managed to take the Zelda franchise in a whole new direction and was used a source of inspiration for many future titles. The game has been re-released several times since its initial launch back in 1998, but none of them have added any significant changes to the game, with the exception of the added difficulty in The Legend of Zelda: Master Quest, That is, until Nintendo releases an updated version to the original classic for the Nintendo 3DS.

Not much is known about NintendoÂ’s latest handheld Zelda project, but Mr. Miyamoto and Mr. Aonuma have promised that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D will contain some new features that were absent in the original. One particular example that he mentioned is that in the Water Temple, for instance, instead of having to constantly drag up the menu screen to switch between LinkÂ’s ordinary boots and iron boots, Mr. Aonuma has promised that the touch screen will be used to make that much easier.

One of the more notable enhancements to the game based on screenshots is that the graphics have been redone to take advantage of the Nintendo 3DS. While only six screenshots depicting Link riding Epona in Hyrule Field have been released so far, itÂ’s no trouble to tell that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D looks much improved overall.

Much secrecy still surrounds The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D, but hopefully all that will change with the lead-up to the Nintendo 3DS. No firm release date has been set, but donÂ’t be too shocked if it releases near the Nintendo 3DS.

Can't anybody write any sort of anything about Ocarina of Time without using the phrase "best game of all time"?

Yeah - we already proved that wrong in the General Gaming forum.  Link to the Past, Link's Awakening and Majora's Mask beat it. ;)
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

It would make sense.  You would think that Majora's Mask would translate well to a portable system; after all, the game is naturally partitioned into small chunks.

If they're going to port games, why not prove this thing can approach GameCube visuals and port Metroid Prime.

Or they could port something that wasn't dramatically improved by Wii controls and thus wouldn't be a big step backward.

Metroid Prime could work very well with hunter style controls.

Majora's Mask doesn't have a very portable friendly save system.  You either have to restart the three day cycle or save at an owl statue.  I remember when the game came out I had to leave the game paused for several hours because I was in the middle of a dungeon (no owl statue nearby) and had a "parents interupting your game for dumb bullshit" moment.  OoT however lets you save anymore which is ideal for a portable.

Why do you want a port?  I can sort of see buying it if Nintendo makes it, but to specifically ask for one?  How about a new Metroid for the 3DS?  That's what I would ask for.

I don't think it would be difficult to just add in Ocarina of Time's save system to Majora's Mask. It should have been in the original game to begin with, it's a pretty poor design choice, and there was no reason for it.
