Eh, I don't think that's anything bad with the Wii though...it's just that the experience that games like CoD4 and CoD5 are pushing is done optimally on the 360, PS3, and PC.  You can do FPSes on the Wii, but they have to be scaled down to fit the hardware.  And by "scaled down" I mean mainly in the online department, and let's face it, FPSes are all about online these days.

The biggest thing is that the Wii is not known for FPSes, so if somebody who doesn't has a console goes over to his buddy's house to play CoD4, chances are it's going to be on 360.  And chances are if he buys a console to play with his buddy, he's going to buy a 360.  That's what I mean by most people who are check for games like CoD4 already have 360's and PS3s, because the Wii didn't have competing games in the beginning.  That ship has already sailed, so to speak.  Just like the ship for the "casual" market has already sailed with Nintendo; there's no way Sony and Microsoft are going to make any inroads now.

Yeah the serious gamers have already taken off on the 360/PS3 ship. Time for High Voltage to bag it and tag it, the conduit is doomed, serious is not the Wii!

Finally we agree on something, GP.  ;)

I'll be interested to see how The Conduit does.  I hope it lives up to the hype and isn't just a glorified tech demo.

People will only buy a FPS on Wii when they can pull off headshots with their behinds.  Balance board innovation at its greatest and the creation of the casual FPS nightmare.

The sad truth is because third parties have had this attitude so long maybe the PS3 and X360 are where gamers that play Call of Duty now are.  The situation with the Wii has been around long enough that those gamers are going to flock to the other consoles.  Why get a Wii if the third parties are just going to screw you around?

Well, it looks like we have the next catch-22 dragon that Nintendo needs to slay. Nintendo has somehow managed to pull off one miracle with making the Wii make all third parties take notice, taking the lead in console exclusive games, zooming ahead in number of titles, capturing most of the market, and pulling in monster revenue.

The Wii did all that, but there's still more to be done. Now Nintendo needs to see if they can create a situation where they can preserve all this momentum, but give the Wii2 equal footing on which to stand amongst specific areas of traditional gaming.

It's a self-fulfilling prophecy YET AGAIN.  Being a Nintendo fan is just getting hosed by catch-22 situations again and again.

It seems to be our lot in life. T_T

Guitar Hero is an exception where they haven't screwed over the Wii (well not as much) and thus has earned good sales.  Don't treat us like second class citizens and we buy your game.  What a concept!

Ian, it's ironic that you point at Guitar Hero.

Guitar Hero 3 lacked DLC. It had MONO SOUND.

Wii gamers bought it anyways. THAT is how you get third parties to stand up, take notice, give us support, and BREAK the vicious cycle. You list Guitar Hero World Tour IV as your Wii game of the year. For that you have to thank the countless masses of people who bought Guitar Hero 3 DESPITE it having a slew of faults compared to the other versions. You complain about catch-22's, but you're content to reap the rewards when other people do what it takes to improve the situations on Nintendo consoles. Our "misguided" Guitar Hero 3 support made your Guitar Hero IV quality possible Ian.

Considering all the news of third parties struggling in the wake of losses and high production costs, I'd say it's the third parties that need to resolve their problems with the Wii, and not the other way around.

This is the pain necessary for them to take the Wii seriously.  It became apparent that they were not going to take the Wii seriously in mid-2007, nor embrace it in early 2008.  But they will end up having to support Wii anyway, or they will contract into a niche non-factor.  For some, especially Japanese devs, it's becoming support Wii or die.

If third parties don't want to support the Wii that just means more money for Nintendo and the other 3rd parties who do. Video-gaming Darwinism, I guess, where the stupid companies who refuse to support the market leader become extinct.

I thought I let you guys know that the Wii has sold 42 mil worldwide. Why am I stating this number?PSP has 41.62 mil.Next up the SNES at 49.10 mil.
The past few weeks the Wii has sold at least a million. So I think its possible to have 45 million at the end of the year. The Wii is currently at 48.9%

It is pretty sad that these companies keep closing or near closing. On one hand you have companys like Free Radical that make good games and close or are near closing. On the other you have a bad developer go and its not bad. When that bad developer goes a new up and coming developer can replace them.

At this rate VGChartz may have the Wii at 50% by the end of January or February! Well, we'll see what December sales are like. The sooner the Wii hits critical mass, the sooner it can save the industry by forcing developers to develop for a console that makes sense budget-wise and saving them from themselves.

Guitar Hero 3 lacked DLC. It had MONO SOUND.

I know, though the mono sound was a f*ck up they acknowledged and fixed.  They didn't intentionally drop stereo sound.

It was compromised but not the point of other Wii games.  I know that sounds so pathetic but it is accurate.  Compared to Rock Band it was near perfect and it came out around the same time as the other versions.

And I'll give Activision credit for seeing how their slighty-gimped GH3 did on the Wii and didn't come to the conclusion of "hey we can just dump whatever sh!t we want on this" and thus didn't compromise GH: Aerosmith or GH: World Tour.  In fact World Tour even has extra content the other versions didn't have.

Too many videogame companies have this "con-man" method of selling games.  Releasing junk and hoping enough ignorant people buy it is a common practice.  Well it's a dirty way to do business and it's risky and when it bombs you can't whine about it.  The companies that have a successful game and then decide to spread that franchise everywhere with spin-offs and lazy ports and cranked out portable versions with no focus on quality and rushed annual sequels are the companies that are going to die off.

The pro has been cheaper than the Wii for quite some time here. I got mine for 200€.

Ian, while I agree that shovelware is bad you do tend to declare games as shovelware just because they're not designed for your exact tastes in gaming.
