I think the argument fans have would be the best way for nintendo to show off a good console based online game would be making a pokemon mmo, and any team could easily make it so you can transfer data from a hand held to the console and vice versa. With the DS generation of pokemon games I have found myself with an issue trading between my pokemon games, personally if there was a way to put them onto the wii and then trade or w/e to a different game i wouldnt have much of an issue owning what is soon to be three games.
an argument for what im saying, and i think many others are feeling/saying is... since the N64/GBC you could transfer data from console to hand held game (i personally loved playing the gbc mario tennis and then playing with my guy on the N64) though that had issues with the N64<>GBC transfer (you need a 40$ controller pack) and a slight issue along the same lines with the GCN <> GBA (30$ link cable), on the other hand with the Wii <> DS, or maybe 3DS (i only heard of the one way transfer for a mii) you connect them wirelessly, and that type of dynamic in a pokemon game could give people a reason to pick up a hand held...
i think this is what broodwars is getting at, on the other hand insanolord does have a point with how nintendo things are designed for the clustered streets of a metropoli like tokyo-to osaka-fu and kyoto-fu, do the rural areas of japan like okinawa prefecture have broad band yet? id imagine the only limits nintendo has with an mmo is the japanese infrastructure. because in truth, it is a world community in this day and age
sorry for wall of text ^^;;
