Nintendo Gaming / RE:New Zelda bonus disc?
« on: September 10, 2003, 06:37:44 PM »
One of many things to be thankful for (besides a GameCube):

The disc will not include the Philips CD-I Zelda games. I saw a few clippings from G4's Icons and I was so shocked at how bad it was it made me appreciate the movie Ishtar (a turkey of a movie starring Dustin Hoffman and Warren Beatty. The movie is so bad it even made Super Mario Brothers look like 'Gone With the Wind') much more.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Metroid Prime Or Halo?
« on: August 25, 2003, 08:01:56 AM »
Halo is better with the multiplayer. The solo version does have some replay value, but it gets boring rather fast. Unreal Championship is the same way. Those games are much better when you are playing another person and seeing who gets the most frags. Metroid Prime never gets boring for me. The music also is awesome in Prime.

Im 37 years old and got a Cube for Christmas last year. Super Mario Sunshine, Madden 03, and Super Smash Brothers Melee were the games I got with my GameCube. I will get Madden 04 (thanks to the new "corrupt file" bug thats only happening to XBOX Madden 04 owners, I am getting the GameCube version. Besides, it wouldnt be the same if I got the XBOX version anyways. Afterall, the graphics of the Cube version are equal to the BOX version). I also plan to get FZero, Metroid Fusion for the GBP, Pikmin, Wave Race Blue Storm, Sonic Adventure 2, etc and also probably about 10-15 more by the years end. However, planning and actually getting that many is a different story.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:I want a gamecube!

You will probably see the PS2 gather quite a bit of dust after buying a Cube. I still own a PS2, but the whole thing just doesnt get hardly any gameplay at all at my house. I am used to the Nintendo games more than the Sony games (the last game I bought was Jax and Dexter and havent played that one in a few months, whiles my GameCube gets played on a daily basis). I know that the PS2 has a vast amount of games to choose from, but how many are AAA titles?? Luigi's Mansion, Zelda Wind Waker, Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, Super Smash Brothers Melee, Wave Race: Blue Storm, Mario Party 4 and the list goes on and on for reasons why to get a Cube. The size of the Cube is also a definite plus.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:One day till Madden!!!
« on: August 10, 2003, 07:15:26 PM »
Well....I will end up getting Madden and also ESPN Football. I played a demo of ESPNF and it is so cool. However, the demo was only 3 minutes and theres not enough scoring one can do in 3 minutes. Im a big EA and Sega fan, so its always a tradition for me to get every update every year.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:should i get a cube
« on: July 27, 2003, 10:01:06 PM »
Nintendo will probably not lower its system prices any time soon, since its the lowest of the three systems out there now. If it does ever plan to lower the prices, you will hear it probably when E3 is held.

You cannot go wrong with getting a GCN and having it connected with your PS2. Combine that with the free GB player and you will have three systems hooked up on the same TV. Go to your local EBGames and you will find many great buys on GCN games. I even found a Wave Race game for the Cube for only 14 bucks there.

General Gaming / RE:Is X-Box the most powerful console?
« on: July 27, 2003, 09:39:14 PM »
I do own all three systems, but do buy the GCN and the XBOX games more. Why? Its not the graphics. I just find that I buy the XBOX for the games that only come out for the system and the Nintendo and also third party games for the Cube. So, the majority of the games that are in my library for the BOX are the "Only On XBOX" series. Guess my devotion for the Cube games is based on my being a Nintendo fan. Afterall, I have been playing Nintendo games since 1980.

Robin Williams did name his daughter Zelda after the character. He did state that he is a big Legend of Zelda fan (as well as Half Life and Halo) and loves all the games of the series.

Nintendo Gaming / Official Game Boy Player Discussion
« on: July 16, 2003, 04:33:58 PM »
I went ahead and bought a Game Boy Player for my GameCube last night along with the Donkey Kong Country cart for the GBA (I have about 30 games for the GBA). I have to admit that I have always hated the lighting on the GB and had to get the GBP because I wanted to see the GB games clearly. Afterall, I didnt do very good on the Mario Kart game for the Cube thanks to the lighting. Guess what? First place on the 50 and the 100 races with Wario and Toad (my fave characters on all the Mario Kart games for the SNES, N64, and the GBA) on my first races with the GBP.

My only gripe with the GBP is the packaging. Why did Nintendo have to put the adapter in all that plastic? It would have been better, IMHO, to package it just like the GameCube. It took me 6 minutes to get the GBP out of the plastic with sharp scissors. Other than that, the GBP is truly a masterpiece. Okay, the games dont always show up clearly (afterall, the games are not designed for viewing on a television screen), but its better than looking at a certain way on a GBA trying to figure out whether or not Toad is actually in the lead, or in last place.

Congrats to Nintendo for creating another masterpiece and adding over a thousand games to the Cube library.

Nintendo Gaming / Why I'm happy owning only GameCube...

The best way to avoid temptation to get a XBOX and a PS2 is this: think of what youd get with that $200 you were thinking of spending to get another system. I can think of at least 5 games youd be better off purchasing for the Cube, than a system with possibly no free game included.

Nintendo Gaming / More Nintendo brainstorming
« on: July 06, 2003, 06:32:43 PM »
Nintendo has always made top quality AAA games and this is what has worked for years and years. They make games that truly shows what videogaming is all about. Nothing that Sony or Microsoft does will ever change what Nintendo does. Nintendo is interested in producing games that the whole family will enjoy. Afterall, do you see a whole family getting together for a multiplayer Unreal Championship?

Nintendo Gaming / Officially Official Sonic Adventure DX Discussion
« on: June 25, 2003, 11:29:08 AM »
I am getting this game soon for one reason: I didnt get to play the game much when I had the DC version. Here's why I didnt get to play it much: The discs I bought were part of those that had defects (Sega and other companies had games when the DC came out that had a manufacturing defect that caused a number of games not to load. Sonic Adventure 1 was one of those titles). I took back both discs years ago only to get another one that was in the same condition. I returned it and gave up. I didnt lose any money, but gave up on the game. It will be so sweet to finally get to play the game and not get a "Please Insert Game Disc" message.

So far I have had good luck with systems. The last time I ever bought a EW from anybody was back in 1996 when the Nintendo 64 was released (I had to wait till December 28th because the EB store in my area was sold out during the Holiday season, but I happened to come in when they just got in a new shipment. It was too sweet ). I forget the amount I spent for the warranty. My history of console buying has been excellent: Super Pong, Atari 2600, ColecoVision, NES,  SNES, Sega Genesis, Sega CD, Nintendo 64, Sega Saturn, Playstation 1 and 2, Sega Dreamcast, the Nintendo GameCube, and the Microsoft XBOX...all have been damage free.

i am returning max payne to my friend today unfinished. seems that the disk started having errors and  saying it was unreadable even though it really was not scratched bad. not to concerned about it cuz the game was  starting to become a bit annoying with so many damn cut sceens every two rooms it went into a story sceen or  radio  it seemed.

i think i might go buy the extended warrenty eb offered for a year for 14 bucks, if the system goes out the will exchange it for another  or something like that.

When I bought a XBOX (a new one with Jet Set Radio Future and Sega GT 2002 and also a third game as well), it came with an offer by Microsoft for an extended warranty (it was only a 2 year EW with a price tag of around 50 bucks). I ignored it at the time. I was only interested in a one year EW with an option to renew every year I own my XBOX. Afterall, I do plan to buy a XBOXNext in 2005 or 2006 when it comes out and that will bring about another EW.

I did reconsider and bought a one year EW for $24.95 from Microsoft. I guess the reason why I had to get one was all the horror stories I read about in XBOXAddict's forums about the first editions of the XBOX dying out on users.

The only other important thing besides getting a XBOX system is warrenty protection. I do recommend anybody who is even planning on getting a XBOX to get this.

Nintendo Gaming / the GBP/GC bundle to put the nail in xbox coffin?
« on: May 21, 2003, 06:23:47 PM »
The usual response from the XBOX fanboys would be something like this: "The XBOX has exclusive hits more than just one", but the key word here is 'hits'. Even Splinter Cell doesnt count anymore as a exclusive hit for the XBOX since its available on all platforms, even the Game Boy Advance.

I do have to congratuate Nintendo for its list of reasons for getting a Cube in the latest issue of Nintendo Power. I feel it was time for Nintendo to get busy and point out to the videogaming public why they should buy a GameCube over the PS2 and the XBOX. So, what if they do try the same methods that OXM did in pointing out why people should buy their XBOX? What matters is that the Cube is a very powerful gaming console and does have an excellent library of games to choose from. I do own all systems, but I do favor the Cube and XBOX both the same. The PS2 system, however, is a big yawn for me.

General Gaming / Why do nintendo fans hate Xbox so much?
« on: May 06, 2003, 09:35:24 AM »
I am one that has all of the major three systems. I have no negative attitudes towards Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft. All three consoles are excellent, IMHO. I basically use the GameCube for my Sonic, Mario, and Link games; the Playstation 2 for Twisted Metal, Grand Theft Auto Vice City, World Series Baseball 2K3, and XBOX for Halo, Jet Set Radio Future, Splinter Cell, and MechAssault. Those are just a few of the games I have for the systems. However, they are the ones that I play the most of right now.

My suggestion is always to get all of the major systems, but that is a utopian dream for many, especially for those who cannot afford to get more than a few games for a system as it is in today's economy.

The GameCube may be a"kiddy" system for some, but it has some excellent games, such as Zelda, Mario Sunshine, and Metroid Prime. However, you may have some gripes with Microsoft and those are legit, for you. Afterall, what if you had major setbacks with Windows XP? Your experiences would definitely make purchasing a XBOX a lose situation for you. That is your right not to buy an XBOX. Its your money and your decision.

General Gaming / Sonic Heroes on Xbox and PS2, yay or boo?
« on: May 01, 2003, 07:56:01 AM »
It doesnt matter much to me whether its released on multi platforms. What matters to me is Sega's survival. The more money they make, the better.

The only thing I wish theyd do is make a sequal to Nights. That game alone was good enough to buy a Sega Saturn back in 1997. I even got a free Christmas Nights game through Next Generation Magazine.  Ahhhh......the memories.

Zelda: TWW got two 10s and a 9.5 from EGM. EGM did receive a few protests from people stating that the game was worthy of Platinum status and all 10s. Personally, Id be satisfied with two 10s and a 9.5.

I was planning on getting NBA 2K3 then Sega canned their sports lineup so I sorta soured on supporting a lame duck sports lineup. I would have bought Live but its waaaay to unrealistic. Your star player is way too dominating....gives you almost no reason to pass the ball. Sigh I'm gonna miss the NBA 2K series...hopefully the next live is more realistic.......or I may have to buy 2K4 on PS2.

You are not the only one that hates the soundtrack. Its really the only flaw, IMHO, of Madden 2003. Madden is supposed to be about football, not showcasing music more appropriate for MTV 2 or MuchMusic. It makes it seem more like infotainment, than an actual simulation of a football game.

You may be thankful you didnt get NBA2K3 for the GameCube. I have read complaints in GamePro about NBA2k3 being so bug filled that the game freezes, making the player reboot the system. The response from Sega was something like this:

"Gee...youre the only ones that have complained to us about this bug. Enjoy the game". It wasnt just one person who complained, but it was several.

Well.....until a week ago, it was the XBOX. I have been playing such classics like Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, Jet Grind Radio, Animal Crossing, and Daytona USA from my Dreamcast and GameCube systems. The PS2 has even been collecting dust too, but my usual Grand Theft Auto VC sessions saves the system alone from the same fate as the XBOX.

So, what happened to the XBOX? I sold it to a friend. It just wasnt the system for me afterall. However, I still have a PS2, GameCube, and also a Sega Dreamcast all hooked up to the same TV.

General Gaming / Dreamcast games
« on: March 06, 2003, 11:54:36 AM »
Electronics Boutiques has a number of Dreamcast games for sale for cheap. I even bought Jet Grind Radio for cheap ($9.99). Unreal Tournament was on sale at my local EB for $20, but I can get it via EBGames for only 8 bucks. All these games are preowned, but that doesnt matter to me.

General Gaming / The new and improved X-box, X-box Light?

Okay.....if one has to sign up for XBOX Live, what if the person doesnt have broadband and cannot use XBOX Live? Just because they are making the console a hundred dollars cheaper doesnt mean that its any better. Gameplay is what matters, IMHO. What good is a game if it has beautiful graphics, but lousy gameplay? The game just ends up being put back in the closet with other software like Whacked!.

EBGames. com is my choice of all for any software, PC or console. I got my Windows XP Home Edition software almost 2 weeks ahead of the general public and also got my Zelda bonus disc earlier too. Been dealing with them for years now and not once did I ever regret ordering from them.

Actually it isnt that surprising that G4 would report it like that. Afterall, remember that the channel features specials such as Splinter Cell and XBOX Live. Also, the channel's G4TV.com show's hosts often overhype Halo as the best game of all time.
